If universal health care works in Canada, why wouldn’t it work in the US?

This is a question that continues to come up in various forms and has been answered many, many times. Pretty much without exception, Quorans who live in developed countries with universal health care go to great lengths in this forum to provide both anecdotal and statistical evidence to support the various styles of UHC that abound. The reason why universal health care can’t work, at the moment, in the US is because the political system is arguably ordained corruption. It’s unlikely that the current breed of politicians want to think about the country and its people when they are paid by the industry bent on maximisation of profit at all costs. Their motivation is to refute as many claims as possible and refuse to cover (or up the premiums) for those who are a risk so they are able to provide attractive profit profiles for their investors - their aim is not to look after sick people.Just look at the huge industries involved and it’s quite easy to spot why, against the interests of your country and its citizens, politicians are trying to convince you that fossil fuels are okay, that environmental concerns are unfounded, that uncontrolled gun laws are okay, that throwing money at defence is okay (even when it’s decreed unnecessary by those in defence), that uncontrolled pricing from drug companies is okay, that a health insurance system run for profit is okay…. and I’m guessing there’s more.In developed countries, governments believe that offering health both before and after illness is a basic right and without it, the country can’t move forward - you are looking at sick workers and sick customers if people don’t have the opportunity to look after their health without facing bankruptcy or death. The US already has the highest rate of bankruptcies in the world, due to medical bills. It’s estimated that there are around 45′000 deaths per year due to a lack of health insurance (patheos.com) and around 60% of bankruptcies are due to health costs (cnbc.com). Countries like Canada are beyond horrified at these statistics. The irony is that so many Americans don’t see what’s obvious to everyone else. Those driven to putting money in their pockets are shouting “socialism” and again, many Americans drink the koolaid, without checking to see what that word actually means.…… and it’s cheaper!

In the US, if there is universal healthcare operated by the government, will it run greedy medical insurance companies out of business?

So first — terminology — which in this case is critical.Universal healthcare has a lot of definitions — and the term is often used to mean different things. Sometimes, the confusion is intentional — as a way to mask a political agenda or point of view. The clarity we’re looking for is a slightly different term — universal health coverage (or just UHC). While there are a lot of good definitions of UHC, the one from the World Health Organization is pretty reasonable.Universal health coverage is defined as ensuring that all people have access to needed promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services, of sufficient quality to be effective, while also ensuring that people do not suffer financial hardship when paying for these services. Universal health coverage has therefore become a major goal for health reform in many countries and a priority objective of WHO.Now, this distinction between universal healthcare and UHC is key because there are a number of different funding options for UHC.Single-payer (private delivery)Single-payer (government owned)Multi-payer (including commercial insurance companies)Universal healthcare, by comparison, has no real payment definition. The distinction is important for another reason. Currently, the U.S. system is based on tiered coverage. We tier coverage by:Age (twice — 26 & 65)Income (Medicaid)Employment (Employer Sponsored Insurance)Military Service (VA)Heritage (Indian Health Services)Individuals — including (but not limited to) Obamacare with 3 distinct tiers:GoldSilverBronzeNo insurance (uninsured — about 12% of the population)While the rest of the industrialized world has standardized on universal health coverage, the U.S. is the only industrialized country with “tiered” coverage. So how’s that working out for Team U.S.A.? Uh — not so well.NB: The chart only goes to 2014 — when our per capita spending on healthcare was about $9,000. This year — 2017 — our per capita spending will be close to $11,000.Now back to the original question:Will universal healthcare run greedy medical insurance companies out of business? The answer is in three parts.First — health insurance companies are heavily regulated (both federally and at the state level), and they’re not wildly lucrative (or greedy). The net profit margin for big commercial payers is typically under 5%. By comparison, Apple has a net profit margin over 21%.Wall Street loves the industry segment because they have enormous cash reserves (required by law) and they’re relatively safe investments at scale for big portfolios.Second — will they be run out of business by universal health coverage? No, because they have multiple lines of business and if we use a multi-payer model to pay for UHC, they will still be in business to sell commercial health insurance. Even if that doesn’t happen, there’s an accounting function (called claims processing) that’s necessary — even if the system is government financed. While the government *could* do this — it’s easier and more economical to simply outsource that work to commercial payers (which is — btw — exactly what the federal government does today for Medicare claims processing). Finally — there is no single group or industry segment that is to blame for the U.S. healthcare cost crisis because each segment of the industry is complicit. Payers, providers, pharma, suppliers, educators and legislators are all harvesting enormous profits from our $3.4 trillion ‘medical industrial complex.’So, is “single-payer” healthcare (any form) the answer for Team U.S.A.? In a word, no, but that’s a different question — and answer:'Single-Payer' Healthcare Isn't Necessary -- But Single Pricing Is

Who is the best PVP player in “Minecraft”?

If we’re only talking about WELL-KNOWN minecraft pvpers, then it would have to be someone like DANTEH (at his prime), Adviser, Marcel (AKA Stimpy), Cxlvxn, Fruitberries, xNestorio, Idiol, AtReality, Swampie, Tylarzz, etc. I say well-known because there’s probably some sweaty kid who no one’s heard of who just no-lifes on practice servers all day long with 0 break and doesn’t sleep who butterflies 20cps, has immaculate aim, perfect movement, a disgusting kdr, and 100% pot accuracy. Anyway, most of the best well known and probably the best unknown pvpers are UHCers and pot pvpers likely not skywars players and speed runners. The guys I just named would probably rail Dream and Techno in any actual pvp gamemode (coming from someone who loves both Dream and Techno as content creators). I saw someone mention kingoros in the comments, he is also insane, the dude literally beat 2 hackers with auto clickers and killaura while he was legit, though that was under very specific conditions. That’s 1.8, of course. To be fair, most of the pvp community kinda hates 1.9+, so if you really want to talk about pvp then you’re talking almost exclusively about 1.8 and to a degree 1.7 as lunar and Badlion clients still support it as do many practice servers. If we’re talking about 1.9+ I'd be willing to believe that Dream, Fruit, and Techno (with Dream and Fruit being a bit better than Techno) are s-tier out of all the well-known players. To be fair to Techno, though he lost 2–3 in the 1.16 rounds of the duel, he also didn’t know how to crit which is probably one of the most important things to know about 1.9+ (EDIT: I forgot to say “standard” 1.9+. This is important because on SMP’s you’re pretty much only gonna run into crystal with some sword combat and a bit of bowing and crossbow). If Techno had known how to crit I don’t think Dream’s 1.16 wins would have been as dominant. Dream even made a comment about how all of his wins were 7+ hearts whereas Techno’s were coming down to the wire. I think this was Techno’s aimbot level aim coming in. 1.8 generally trains aim far better than 1.9+. If Techno had been able to make all of those hits into crits, he might have even taken a third round, though it still could have gone either way. Both played well. I’d be willing to bet that Dream and Techno are a lot closer in shield pvp than people think. To address the Dream duel against 20 something other Youtubers, his duel with Fruit is probably only somewhat representative of their actual skill. Dream was probably tryharding, he felt he needed to prove something. Fruit probably wasn’t. But, I can’t confirm that. What I can confirm is that Dream had spent the last month training non-stop for the duel, Fruit had spent the last month training Techno for the duel, big difference there. Dream was very prepared going into that. To be fair to Dream, though, he’s probably better at 1.9+, considering the very wide gap in terms of score (the last few sentences are specifically relating to Dream v. Fruit, not Dream v. Techno, though Dream is debatably better than Techno at 1.9+ too. I say that it’s debatable because crits are very important to standard and Techno didn’t know how to perform them during the duel. As I mention earlier).Quick Edit to the 1.9+ section: I really should have mentioned crystal pvp, as it is often considered the most high-skill form of 1.9+. I think it gets a bad rep because of 2b2t where people crystal with hacks. However, crystal pvp without hacks is also pretty intense. This is something that mainstream Minecraft channels have ignored almost entirely, though I think that someone like Techno or Dream could be very good at it. If you don’t know what I'm on about, just look up “minecraft SMP crystal pvp” and some cool stuff will probably come up.I don’t really see that game IQ comes into pvp that much, at least the kind that aids Dream in his manhunts. It’s kinda like Kingoros beating the hackers: very specific conditions, except kingoros had an actual pvp background to my knowledge. At that point you’re not talking about straight pvp anymore, you’re talking about minigames, plain survival, or a challenge like the manhunts. pvp is like Build UHC, no debuff, soup, etc. Minigames are like skywars, bedwars, megawalls, etc., There’s a huge difference. Also parkour is cool and takes a lot of skill, but has no place in pvp as most maps that BuildUHC, pot, soup, etc. are flat or have very little texture to them (though definitely helps in minigames). You should check out the people I listed in the beginning. Also, thank god someone mentioned Badlion and someone else mentioned Huahwi.I have no idea when this was initially posted cuz I saw a post from like 3 years ago and it’s 5am for me so im too lazy to figure it out. This post is probably hot garbage, but whatever. Seriously though, check out pot pvp and Build UHC. If this post is from 3 years ago, then I imagine that the author was looking for a player who comes from one of those communities as Badlion and Kohi were still active (maybe not Kohi, I forget).Edit 2: Ok, oof. I forgot like Jewdah, Gamefreak, and modifier... that’s kinda sad…. obviously there’s more than that too.Thought I'd add a list of good players at the end that go far beyond the ability of any popular MC YouTuber who doesn’t come from the pvp community. Also some of their achievements: Danteh (2800 Elo Badlion), Tylarzz, Jerseys (Jewdah’s punching bag), Huahwi (overrated but still pretty good), Jullia, PotFast (the 6 cps warrior), M0DIFIER, Gamefreak (would be the best if he still played), Jewdah (probably the best rn), Staind, ODxRAY (would not want to fight), Stimpy (literally ruled pot pvp and soup for years), Adviser, Idiol, Tryhard, Golfeh (1.16 crystal), Crusty, Intel Edits, Swampie, AtReality (2801 Elo Badlion), Cxlvxn, Jaiwho (10k Elo MMC EU), Defeatboy (holy shit South Korean ping), xNestorio, Fruitberries, Karlixon (almost beat Danteh at 2799, half a heart), Ginger, iSparkton, DJThread (the undisputed king of debuff), Tye3315, Refraction, RKY, Nakoso (pretty nutty on mmc), ZNNUDI (somehow made global lb’s with all the hackers), How2Badlion, Tylers_Game, Valler, PainfulPVP, ComboDombo, PuffedUp, brndy (maybe the best at one point???), Gapplee, ZMCNikolai, BlueDeww, GDA, Miami, Deadass, Lastro, Zylowh, Scholar, Kahzuk, Kevstah (liked to abuse Kohi block hit glitch), SuchSpeed, etc.Add more good players in the comments if you want. I check this post occasionally to see if any Dream/Techno fans have tried to claim that Dream could beat Jaiwho in build or that Techno could beat Jewdah in pot.Yes, almost everyone on here mains either BUHC or Pot PVP, but those are the two most popular practice modes. Bedwars, skywars, UHC, HCF, etc. are not practice and they aren’t pvp modes. They aren’t a test of one’s actual skill in a 1v1. GB80 is great at Bedwars, but he’d get rolled on lunar or MMC. Manhal on the other hand plays nodebuff (pot) and UHC Duels (specifically hypixel with the s2 auto heads). GB80 would probably lose to Techno and Dream in a 1v1, Manhal probably wouldn't. Bedwars, Skywars, and other minigames, UHC included, are not about pvp skill. I add UHC to this only because while UHC requires a lot of pvp skill (slightly contradicting my last sentence), you can get killed pretty early by being under geared, which has absolutely nothing to do with your pvp ability. In Build UHC (the practice mode), everyone has the same kit, no gear advantage. PvP is 1v1’s in a fair/controlled environment no additional factors other than ping which is unavoidable (Defeatboy out here with his 250 SK ping).
