PDF Editor FAQ

My 16 year old daughter would like to get a small tattoo on the top of her foot. I don’t see any harm in granting consent. Are there any negative reasons that I should consider?

The biggest negative is the fact that she may despise the tattoo in 5 years. When my daughter was a “teen rebel” type girl, she got a nice little tasteful tattoo of a flower on her arm.Which she now despises, now that she’s not a teen rebel girl anymore.A tattoo is a bold fashion statement. Nothing more and nothing less. Just like buying a bright colored car.Today, you might think it’s a really AWESOME fashion statement. But three years from now, you think that it sucks and that you were an idiot for buying it.You can pretend that getting a tattoo is some sort of spiritual thing, but it’s really just a fashion statement. Here is a pair of tattoos. They are sort of clever and very well-executed. Compared to the average tattoo, these are A+ grade:OBJECTIVELY, however, there is NO REASON to have these two pictures inked permanently into your skin.AND SINCE THERE IS NO OBJECTIVE REASON TO HAVE THESE PICTURES ON YOUR SKIN, THAT MEANS THAT IN THE FUTURE YOU MIGHT CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT THEM. OR EVEN HATE THEM.Thinking that tattoos are good or bad is purely subjective. AND THAT MEANS THAT IF YOUR BRAIN THINKS YOUR TATTOO IS BAD SOMEDAY, THEN BY DEFINITION IT’S BAD.My neighbor is a wimpy accountant type guy.He got his daughter’s name tattooed on his chest when she was born. He got all excited about having a baby and he got her focking name tattooed on his focking chest like a focking moron.Like so:It looks like he has a name tag for a woman on his chest. He absolutely does not look like this:He looks like a little scrawny accountant with a girl’s name tag on his chest. He hates it, he told me so.(There is something about my face that makes people admit stuff to me. For real. You would be amazed at the stuff people tell me.)Personally, I’m not a fan of tattoos on everyone. Tattoos have a mannish aspect that looks OK on a badass guy sometimes. But on women, they look like graffiti to me. Kind of the same as really overdone makeup.I’m a fan of neo-surrealism, so I actually really love a lot of the better tattoo art. But it’s very rare to see a woman’s appearance enhanced by a tattoo, no matter how awesome the tattoo art is.If I was going to get a tattoo, I’d spend the money on a really good one. Something rinky-dink like this is practically guaranteed to be hated eventually by the owner:This is what my tattoo would look like:Not that tattoo exactly, but that level of artistry. That way when I started hating it, at least it would still be awesome. I could say, “I hate my tattoo, but at least it’s awesome.”If you want the actual statistics, about 30% of the US public has a tattoo now and about 15% to 25% report regretting it, depending on the survey.15% to 25% is a LOT when you consider that it’s from the group of people who actually wanted a tattoo and not the general public. And people don’t like admitting to a mistake.15% to 25% is also a LOT when you consider that the amount of “tattoo regret” goes up over time. That means that older people probably have a 30% to 50% probability of regretting their tattoo.About 11% of people with tattoos either have had it removed or are planning to. And since tattoo removal is expensive and painful, the 11% is significant.16 year olds, including me at that age, are like those big dumb dogs that jump up on everyone and knock little kids down and steal their ice cream cone.Putting a 16 year old in charge of permanent-decision-making is like putting your Irish Setter in charge. They need the voice of reality gently whispered into their ear. And occasionally screamed into their ear.The world is remarkably forgiving of human folly. Until it suddenly isn’t.

What is your opinion on abortion?

My opinion is that my opinion should affect my life, not anyone else’s.But since you are dying to know. Here goes..Abortion is a big deal and should not be used as birth control. It bothers me when people compare having an abortion to removing a cluster of cells, pests etc. It’s not like a skin tag that needs to be extracted, it’s a potential baby in the making.Nevertheless, no one has the right to force a woman to go through childbirth or through an abortion. Some claim that consent for sex is consent to childbirth. Prahaps this is your expectation. If so, you better make sure that the woman you are about to have sex with shares your belief. Otherwise, you will be disappointed. The same goes for a woman who expects a man to marry her, if he gets her pragnant. He consented to sex, so why not marrige? Better make sure he’s on the same page..

Can my parents post pictures of me on social media without my permission/consent if I am no longer a minor?

Depends on your geography, of course. If you are in US, and you had not provided a signed release form (consent form) for your image to be used by that person, you can contact FB (report image as violation of the copyright) and get it removed.Otherwise, your options would be limited:you can retain an attorney and send a cease-and-desist letter to your father (this can end the relationship entirely)you can file a complaint/suit (expect high legal costs for that) - possibility of penalties might include jail time, so hope you’re ready to literally throw your father in jailyou can fight it out with FB and get your dad banned from the social media site (only current account, more accounts can be created under alias, as you know)Otherwise, you can change yourself - first, block your dad so you are not tagged into any photos; second, grow a thicker skin - if the pictures do not depict you as either inappropriately dressed or actively involved into illegal activities, let him be and do not speak with him at all any longer.
