Most famous example of when a superhero snapped would have to be none other than when Hal Jordan went completely insane after his hometown Coast City got completely destroyed along with everybody in it by Mongul and Cyborg Superman. The whole thing pretty much caused Hal to completely snap especially when the Guardians refused to give him the power to rebuild it because it was impossible but Hal refused to accept it and that pushed him completely over the edge.He then went on to kill just about every member of the Green Lantern Corps in his mad mission to Oa to confront the Guardians and steal all the Green Lantern energy from the main battery. Needless to say he was completely insane to listen to any reason at this point.Once he got to Oa the Guardians in a desperate attempt to stop him sent his arch foe Sinestro to take him down. Unfortunately for the Guardians Hal proved to be the best of the Green Lanterns and not only took down Sinestro but went way beyond past the point of no return and killed him.Hal then proceeded to go into the main GL battery and absorb all the power and then emerged as the villain Parallax.As a villain he tried to use the power to remake all of reality in Zero Hour but was defeated by DC’s heroes and eventually he came to his senses in Final Night to where he sacrificed himself to get the sun back after it was consumed by the Sun-Eater and saved all of humanity.However his death didn’t last for long because he was eventually brought back to life as the new Spectre in Day of Judgement.Since DC’s decision to turn Hal Jordan into a villain caused a whole lot of controversy and angry uproar among GL fans who favored Hal Jordan more than all the other Green Lanterns in a very desperate move to undo the damages Geoff Johns wrote Green Lantern: Rebirth to where it was revealed that Parallax is a fear inducing parasitic alien entity who was possessing Hal Jordan the whole time and caused him to go completely insane so his actions were not done by his own free will.It was also revealed that Parallax was awakened by none other than Sinestro while it was imprisoned inside the Central GL Battery on Oa and it grafted itself to Hal Jordan’s soul while he was inside the battery and that the Sinestro who Hal killed was just a construct created by Fear. It was Sinestro’s grand plan to turn his longtime enemy Hal into a murdering supervillain and it went exactly how he planned.Just when Sinestro was on the verge of killing Kyle Rayner and Green Arrow Hal Jordan after breaking free of Parallax was returned to his earthly body by the Spectre and was fully restored to life as Green Lantern. While he was able to defeat Sinestro in the end the villain got the last laugh because while Hal Jordan reclaimed the title of Green Lantern and was back as a hero thanks to Sinestro and Parallax he will forever be remembered as a mass murderer and onetime supervillain who tried to remake reality on his new lease on life.Yeah while there are plenty of examples of when superheroes have gone and snapped this one in my opinion comes as being the winner.

He fires an omnidirectional blast of fire and cosmic energy, burning the environment to a crisp and sending all but S, and WW (she blocked it with her shield) many levels below.S hits SS with a punch. SS goes through the wall, and stops. His eyes glow, and he raised his hand.SS: To me, my board.S: Board? Why do you need a boar-OOFThe surfboard smacks Superman on the back of the head and returns to SS.SS brushes off the little blood underneath his nose.SS: It seems your superhuman abilities come from the yellow solar radiation stored in your Kryptonian cells. You have a weakness to red solar radiation, along with Kryptonite.SS blasts WW with a blast, but WW deflects it back at him.SS absorbs the energy and starts to use his speed. He charges at S, blasting him, and Superman retaliated with blasting his heat vision at SS’s eyes.SS: Interesting power. But to one who flies through the cores of cosmic furnaces with ease, your heat vision is but meagre warmth.SS blasts S with Kryptonite radiation, while sending his board to go behind WW and hit her in the back of the head at the speed of light.S lands a powerful punch on SS, and another one, the shockwaves shaking the Watchtower, but SS continues bathing S with Kryptonite radiation and puts him in a hold. He drains S’s solar radiation and heals himself, then knocks him out, and forms a cocoon of ethereal energy around the fallen Kryptonian.Now CM, Aquaman, and Green Lantern enter the fight.WW charges at him, waving her sword, but SS paralyzes her with a powerful shock to her nervous system. He deflected one of CM's lightning bolts, and followed by taking control of Wonder Woman’s brainwaves and knocking her out.CM throws a clumsy punch at him, telegraphing his move about a lightyear ahead, and SS catches it with ease. GL fires a blast, making a giant fist, and CM shoots a lightning bolt, but SS simply phases through GL’s energy blast and tanks the construct and CM’s blast.SS: I have endured barrages lightning bolts from an angry God of Thunder. Did you think your little shock was going to do anything?CM: Shazam!SS, using his Cosmic Awareness, predicts the lightning, and throws CM in the path of the lightning bolt. CM is now Billy Batson, and SS uses GL’s panicking to suddenly land an uppercut on him, and a kick to the midsection, followed by a blast propelling him down two floors. SS knocks Billy out, forming a cocoon around his body.A finally catches up to the fliers and thrusts his trident at SS ’s head. SS easily dodges and replies with a blast of his own towards A, knocking him to the ground. A tries to freeze SS with his trident, but SS doesn’t feel the cold and simply turns intangible to escape the ice cube. A tries to teleport SS, but by then, SS has already grabbed the trident and thrown it away. As A tries to get the trident back, SS hits him with a full power blast, severely weakening him. As A tried one last time for a final hit, SS caught the fist then edited his DNA, and turned him to a human.MM tries to attack SS telepathically, but SS easily resists.SS: The Power Cosmic allows me to do many things, Martian. Even your powerful telepathy, cannot harm one who resisted the Goddess armed with the Infinity Gem of Mind, J’onn Jonzz.MM: Why are you doing this?SS: I am ordered to by my master.MM: Who is it you serve?SS: I’ll show you.SS shows MM Galactus, and his history.MM: You would serve a cosmic butcher, and doom billions of worlds, full of life, to save your own. You selfish murderer.MM shapeshifts into a massive monster, that would be sure to even make Superman wet his Kryptonian garments.SS: Your shapeshifting may be impressive, but I have seen titans that slaughtered half the universe, cosmic giants that devour planets to live, extra-dimensional insectoids that wishes to destroy all in existence. I am not easily scared.MM hits him with a massive tentacle, knocking SS off his board. SS merely wipes his mouth of a little blood, and uses a forcefield to block MM’s attacks.SS’s cosmic awareness informs him of MM’s weakness to fire.SS: You are weak to fire? Taste a star.SS creates a baby star, and throws it at MM, leaving him in a dry comatose state.GL creates a massive plane, pinning SS to it. SS easily destroys the plane.GL creates a fleet of fighter jets, but SS weaves through them, and blasts them to pieces.GL creates a suit of armour, and throws a punch at SS. SS catches the punch with both hands, and blinds GL with a bright blast of energy.Using his cosmic awareness, SS realised that the power is within the ring. He grabbed the ring off, and threw it away.To his surprise, it flew right back to Hal.SS: Interesting.GL blasts SS with a powerful beam of energy, but SS creates a shield to block it. SS slowly advances through the beam. GL creates a construct behind SS, but SS’s cosmic awareness helps him realise it, and he blasts it to pieces without looking. SS dispatches his board, and sends it to go around and hit Hal, but suddenly a red blur saves him.Flash runs at immeasurable speeds, hit Surfer with a powerful blow from behind. SS turns, and he sees the F’s fist rushing towards him. F rains blows upon blows onto SS from every direction, but SS barely feels them. He creates a tornado but SS isn’t even moved, and drops three whole levels on GL. F threw a bolt of lightning, and that’s what got SS’s attention.SS: Interesting. A user of the speed force. But you are still a human.SS blasted F, but F vibrated his way through the attack. SS trapped F in a forcefield, but F phased through it again. As F tried to vibrate his hand through SS’s hand, SS turns the floor to gas, dropping F, and disperses his molecules to the wind.GL: NOOOOOOO!GL, overpowering the ring’s no-kill limit with pure willpower, unleashes a massive blast, hurting SS, damaging him severely, and sending him crashing into the moon.SS: That hurt.GL: You killed him. You’re gonna get hurt a lot worse.GL creates a massive spike of energy, and rams/blasts it through SS, coming out the other side. He then detonates it, blasting him across the moon. He then creates a set of spiked gauntlets, forming a suit of armour around him, and charges at SS.SS catches the punch, slightly bleeding his hands.SS: No. I have had enough.SS reforms his body, and creates a black hole above GL.GL suddenly feels himself flying up, and he uses a set of jets to stabilise himself, but SS takes advantage and started raining blows on him. Then he turns the black hole into an explosion, and knocks the off-balance GL to the ground. He seizes GL by the throat, rips the ring off and crushes it, absorbing the energy from the dust, and transmuting the dust into the air. Hal lunges at Surfer one last time, his eyes filled with willpower, but Surfer put the human to sleep, trapping him in a cocoon.However, back in the tower, two eyes begin glowing red hot. S’s body, recharged by SS’s baby star, is back to full power. B and WW also awakens.B, S and WW: Surfer.Surfer flies back to the Watchtower.SS: I am sorry it had to be like this. But there is nothing stopping Galactus.B: Who?SS: The Devourer of Worlds. A cosmic entity, inspiring fear to all civilisations, and yet embodying balance.SS telepathically shows the trio of Galactus’ power, his history and his goals.S: You serve him?SS: I do.S: Why?SS: Because. It was the only way to save Zenn-La. My world. And for her, I will defeat every single one of you.The Silver Surfer blasts Superman with a mixture of red solar radiation and Kryptonite radiation, and blocks a sword swing from Wonder Woman with his board. Batman shoots a net at him, but Surfer ignores it. Batman then activates an electrical charge, causing electrical energy to run up and down Surfer, but he barely reacts.Surfer goes higher into space, to get some distance, and smacks Superman away with his board when he gets close. He follows up the attack with a series of punches, kicks and blasts of Kryptonite and red solar radiation. As Wonder Woman tried to assist him, he sent his surfboard to stall her. He then seized the cape and started spinning at superspeed, then released his grip on the cape, throwing him into Jupiter. Batman throws a sleeping gas pellet, but no one was affected. Wonder Woman bashes Surfer in the chin with her shield, and slices at Surfer. Surfer moves back just in time, and has a massive gash on his shoulder, almost losing his arm.Silver Surfer: That blade. It’s made of Eighth Metal. How did you get it?Wonder Woman: I shall write the answer on your tombstone with your own blood.Wonder Woman continues her assault, slicing him across the leg, face, then back. But Surfer has fought people with swords that could hurt him before, and he started creating energy shields, and turned his own board into a shield. As Wonder Woman goes for another stab, Surfer blocks it with an energy shield, catches her follow up shield bash with his hand and hits her with a blast to the midsection, then to the eyes. He disarms her of her sword and shield, throwing them into the sun.Wonder Woman throws her tiara, cutting Surfer at the neck, and pulls out the Golden Perfect. As Surfer heals from the wound, she lassos the Surfer.Wonder Woman: Stop fighting us!But Surfer had already analysed the weapon on their first encounter, and understood its power and capabilities.And its weaknesses. Surfer changes his form to worm his way out of the lasso, and smacks Wonder Woman with the board.Silver Surfer: I have resisted the soul-manipulating magics of Mephisto and Dormammu. I have resisted the Infinity Gem of Soul trying to consume me, the tongue of the Wraith Queen and I can resist your lasso.Wonder Woman: Resist this!Wonder Woman climbs onto his board, and clashes her bracelets against Surfer’s head, giving him a powerful concussion. Batman sees his chance, and with a hand gesture to Superman, activated his hypersonics, as Superman unleashed a sonic scream.SS: AAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!Silver Surfer, out of pain, unleashes a massive explosion of power, enough to destroy multiple planets, knocking out Wonder Woman, following the attack by changing his board into a sword, and decapitating Wonder Woman. But Superman shielded Batman from the blast. Batman signals to Superman again, and as the Silver Surfer goes in for a close-range hit, Batman hits him with a blinding light, but this time Surfer thought he was ready. He turned off his cosmic awareness for a moment, which was exactly what Batman was counting on.Superman, who had been vibrating to become invisible, suddenly appeared and landed a massive blow on Surfer, sending him flying above.Superman: This ends now.SS: Yes.The cosmic surfboard smashes into Superman’s back, and Surfer blasts him again. This time, he turned his board into Kryptonite. Despite this, Superman lands a good amount of hits with his speed and strength, each hit dealing more and more damage to Surfer. Surfer counters Superman’s superior physical power by transmuting the Watchtower into Kryptonite, and draining the energy from Superman. Surfer encases the whole environment in red solar radiation, preventing Superman from healing. Superman tries to call out for help, but it couldn’t get through the forcefield. Surfer beats Superman relentlessly, and blasts him even more. Superman, beaten and weakened, tries to use his freeze breath, but Surfer’s skin was designed to withstand space travel. Superman, tries to do a sonic scream, but Surfer transmutes the air into metal before he could. Superman, seeing no other opportunities, started to glow. As Batman watches on in horror, Superman’s body releases a massive explosion of energy, and incinerating a large section of the Watchtower.As the dust clears, Surfer is still standing, but parts of his body are melting.SS: You truly are powerful. A paragon of hope. I am sorry.Surfer rams the board into Superman’s neck, decapitating him.Batman: Claaark, No!Batman tries to continue Superman’s lead with red hot Batarangs, and throwing rocket boots at him, hurling every explosive he has, and following with freeze grenades, but Silver Surfer reforms his body, and dissolves the gadgets.SS: You truly are relentless. Even as a man, after watching your godly allies fall beside you, you still stand to fight. When you’re gone, I hope Gotham remembers you. I hope Earth remembers you all. Goodbye. You were brave heroes, and fought valiantly. Disperse.SS disperses Batman’s atoms into the wind.Galactus: You have done well, my herald.Galactus then appears, and devours the world.Analysis:Silver Surfer is second in strength only to Superman, rivalling Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel.His speed is also just below Flash and Superman, and around Wonder Woman’s level.His energy projection is the most powerful.Superman is stronger, but his heat vision and freeze breath are useless, and Surfer can distract him with his board, or exploit his many weaknesses.Wonder Woman is good, but she’s no Superman, and she is vulnerable to blades.Batman is just a human.Flash is faster than him, but he is the least durable, and he is easily taken out.Green Lantern’s power comes from his ring, and despite his massive firepower, once his ring is destroyed he can be taken out.Captain Marvel shouts Shazam, and he is defeated easily, not to mention his inexperience.Aquaman isn’t quite strong enough to compete physically, and his trident is versatile, but once he is disarmed(for a few seconds), he is easily dehydrated and killed.Martian Manhunter’s telepathy isn’t effective against Surfer, and his vulnerability to fire is extremely easy to exploit, though he is physically almost as strong as Superman.Cyborg has been taken down by Batman with EMPs before, so Surfer’s one should be able to kill him, not to mention the following energy blast.

I'd say a lot of Universal feats.Golden Age Supes and Post Crisis Superman destroying the UniverseI've seen the argument that it was more of a physiological battle, of PC's moral ambiguity vs the traditions of the Golden Age. That's pure headcanon first off, and since when was destroying space and time physiological?2. Imperiex Probe's carrying portions of the Big BangMany point out that Imperiex Probes use machines to destroy galaxies. However, that doesn't mean much. In the Star Wars extended Universe Darth Vader is Multi-Planet Level yet still uses the Death Star to blow up planets. It might just simply be more convenient.3. Destroying endless realities/illusionsIt will usually be something about how they're illusions, but they were reality sized and it stated by an author that could be both.4. Superman says he can destroy the Phantom ZonePeople say Supes is lying. There is nothing to suggest that and it would be a double standard to except things like Cell's statement but not this.5. Defeating Nebula Man the Living UniverseI've heard some say he can't be a living Universe for a weird mix of reasons. However, this is a comic book and it is outright stated he's a living Universe. The comic's statement >>>>> real life physics.6. Solar System Level is more consistent - First off, Supes holds back on purpose, instinctively, subconsciously and even when serious. As well as that, these SS Level feats being his peak can be easily debunked.Black Hole?He was sent mind images.Sun-Eater?He was weakened by red sun radiation.Compressed Solar System?Casual feat.Jon Stewart making a Solar System?GL rings have been stated as extra-dimensional in DC.Flash's IMP statement?Jenni Ognat has a similar Universal statement when using the speedforce.Alan Scott's death?Shouldn't be his full power and is nothing compared to Supes.And then there are even more Universal feats, like him bending through space and time to punch death, knocking HF’s staff off of the Source Wall, shaking the Heavens with Wonder Woman, giving 1/4th of the energy to create a new Universe, etc.
