IAS officer D. K. Ravi from Karnataka state, 36 years old, posted as Joint Commissioner, Commercial Tax Department, Bangalore, on Monday died by allegedly committing suicide(Murder). Why ? There is no place for honest officers like D.K Ravi in public services.His achievement in joining public services and work history is amazing event though it is for a short period of time (2008-2015):He cleared the 2008 UPSC Civil Services Examination with an all-India rank of 34 and opted for Indian Administrative Service(IAS).He has trained many IAS aspirants free of cost.Simple man who used to stay in common man's home and have food irrespective of caste or status.While serving as the Deputy commissioner of Kolar district, Karnataka from August 2013 to October 2014, he was known for his work in ridding encroachments and exposing sand mafia in the district.Ravikumar was posted as the Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement) by the government on 29 October 2014 in Bangalore. Following this, he prepared a list of top-50 tax defaulters and set a target of Rs. 1000 crores tax collection from the tax evading defaulters. He began raids in Bangalore and expanded to places across Karnataka raiding well-known business groups such as Embassy, Rajesh Exports, Shubh Jewellers, RMZ Institution, Prestige Group, Raheja Developers and Mantri Developers, and had reportedly collected over Rs. 138 crores within first 2 weeks of joining! Following this, he allegedly received threat calls from the defaulters.He was nightmare for the local leaders who were involved in land and sand mafia. After the IT raid, most of the business groups were in shock.He was popular among Kolar people following his stern actions against corrupts. His death has come in shock across the Karnataka state. Ravi was found hanging from ceiling by his wife Kusuma who got suspicious when Ravi did not respond to the phone calls. Kolar district is completely shut down and protests are increasing across the state. Hence I do not believe in what this state government is doing at the moment. You should *not* start learning Java, if you have an option!Pause and ask yourself these questions: What do you want to really achieve out of this(learning java) exercise? Why is it that you want to learn Java? If it is part of your school curriculum, sure go ahead.I always tell aspiring s/w developers to work towards improving their problem solving skills. In fact solving puzzles and designing solutions for complex problems on paper will do you more good than “learning” to program java or any individual language for that matter. You must choose your programming language based on what your solution/approach demand. Look at programming languages as tools that help you express/execute your thoughts.Start from a problem, “design” a solution, and then go around sampling various programming languages that fit your requirement.
