First, my experience is second-hand: based on what people in the Presidential Protection Detail have said. I haven’t spoken to everyone. And I have not served as a member of the SS though I’ve talked to a number of them and also read some accounts/comments.Second, the SS, especially when it comes to Presidents and First Families, prefers to be as quiet as possible. They are supposed to be discreet.Third, people who serve on the PPD rarely do it for just one President. For instance, I spoke to one person who was on the PPD for both Bush and Obama. Another who was on the PPD for Obama and Trump. Another who was on for Bush and then Clinton. What that means is many members of the PPD have comparisons they can make—they have experienced more than just one President.That said, the Obamas were well-regarded. The Obama family (other than facing a larger than normal number of threats) tended to follow the direction of the SS, treated the members of the PPD well, remembered small details (for instance, that one of the agents had a wife that was pregnant, etc.), treated agents with respect and warmth. A couple of posts have talked about the Obamas treating agents as “family” and that matches.The impression I got was that George HW Bush was extremely well-regarded (for many reasons). The daughters of George W. Bush were a handful.As for the current President, no one would repeat stories that were derogatory—that would have been unprofessional. No one volunteered any praise either. But given his tendency to spend most weekends out of DC at one of his other locations (and almost no time at Camp David), it places heavy demands on the SS. One agent told me “we tell recruits you don’t get weekends off but that’s really true now.” Traveling demands more agents than staying in the WH and #45 travels most weekends. So the hours are longer and the demands on the PPD teams are greater.

There's a poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow called “The Masque of Pandora”. There's a beautiful line in that poem,“Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad.”This is a well suited comment in Mamata Banerjee's case.Everyone knows, Mamata didi is not taking action against those goons to save her vote bank. No other reasons. But the way she has reacted and acted on this case is very worrying.I don't know if she has gone mad or not, but no sane person will react the way she does. In the age of social media, when everyone can see her reaction, she is still behaving this way.I feel she is not well.
