Is the self-proclaimed nurse in a living room talking to a friend or an applicant in a medical clinic? If you're in the US, not all jurisdictions even have an LPN — Licensed Practical NURSE — degree.I don't know the rules in all of the world or all of the states in the US, but since LPN/LVN stands for Licensed Practical NURSE/Licensed Vocational NURSE it would seem to me that one holding this degree could legitimately hold themselves to be a nurse as could several other degreed and nondegreed persons.
