PDF Editor FAQ

Do you feel like you have too many kids?

Yes, actually I do.I was one of the kids that grew up KNOWING I didn’t want any children. I wanted a couple dogs, a farm, some horses and pigs, and I wanted lots of land and I was going to be a bee-harvester. No where in my dreams did I permit the thought of “children”.In my mid-20’s I met a guy, fell in love - he fell in love with someone else and I was heart-broken. I met another guy on a rebound. Within 8 months we had purchased a home and were pregnant. I was depressed about it. I looked at it as my life was over. Truly the first child I held was my own. The first diaper I had ever changed in my life, was to my first born. So everything was new, everything on the fly. We ended up getting married, and it wasn’t a great marriage. We got pregnant again, this time with a son.I knew I was finished with children. A boy and a girl…that’s supposed to be life’s formula, right? After a messy divorce, some years went by, and I met another man. After 2 years of dating I found out he lied about some major things. So I decided to end it. He begged and begged for me not to leave. I was on the fence because I loved him, but didn’t want to live life with a liar. Soooo… within that small time of deciding to stay or go, I end up pregnant with twins.A total of four kids. FOUR.So I’m in a “not-sure” relationship with someone who is a liar. I have an ex-husband with mirroring symptoms to a psychopath (not even remotely kidding), which leaves me as a single parent with now a bunch of kids. It sucks.I wanted to give my twins up for adoption. Their father refused to sign over his parental rights. He doesn’t do much with them as it is, so I’m solo taking care of them, with a very unconventional job. (I don’t work a 9–5).Daycare is so expensive it’s not funny. I’m sure many people would have kids upon kids upon kids…daycare is astronomical.Lack of family around makes things difficult. And the family I do have around have their own lives/jobs/families.It’s just…yeah, I have too many. Some people look at kids as a huge blessing. If you don’t have a “huge blessing” bank account, the stress of managing a home, a job, and a lot of kids is super difficult. It’s more stress than anything else. I’ve gotten rather smarmy at telling people “well if they are such a blessing take them for a month”. As yet, no takers. But I’m more resigned to the fact that this is just “my life”. I’m not super happy about it. But I try to put on a positive face around my kids. I play with them on the floor (instead of sitting on the couch supervising). I take the older ones out and we do things together. I’ll spend money I don’t have just so we can do fun things together. Although I am not particularly happy — I never want them to know that. I try not to show things are hard. I ask the older kids to come sit and lay with me on the couch so we can watch what they want. I never want my kids to see themselves as a burden, no matter how much that thought runs in my head.

Is there a legal document that can be signed by parents that signs over parental rights if they end up on drugs or unstable?

There is a document known as a springing Power of Attorney that allows a person to delegate certain rights s/he has to a named attorney on the happening of an event that is specifically mentioned in the POA. This could be used in the circumstances you have mentioned. However you need to consult a lawyer to ensure such document will be legally enforceable in the state/country in which you live

What's the most outrageous thing ever done by a famous rock star?

Yes A2A.There are many stories of rock stars thrashing hotel rooms, snorting up cocaine, crashing cars, getting high and on hindsight, it all seems so tame now considering what we already know about rock stars in general. One story I couldn’t get pass though was the story of the ultimate rock groupie by the name of Lori Maddox. Of course, even normal artistes have mindless amounts of women falling all over them but the term groupie originated from the no. of women grouping themselves all over those rock stars in the 1970’s. While it’s seen as unseemly now, it was rather normal for rock stars to be seen with a lot of women, possibly different ones, each time they hit the town. The only difference with Lori Maddox was that she started out when she was just a teenager. Lori herself confessed to losing her virginity to David Bowie when she was just 15 years old and for years, she was known as Jimmy Page’s (Led Zeppelin) girlfriend even though she was still under the legal age and it was revealed that her parents had signed off guardianship to Jimmy Page so she could basically go everywhere with him and he wouldn’t be criminally charged for having an underage minor girl in his company.Just this past week too, there was an uproar when Moby claimed he was dating Natalie Portman when she was 20 and he was 33. Even though she was already of legal age, Natalie fought Moby’s version of the events and through all that furor, he has had to cancel his upcoming book tour and all press appearances so imagine how wrong it was for a then 14 year old girl to be dating a 27 year old man. I also have a teenage daughter myself and when she returns home late, I go ballistics with worry so I cannot imagine having my daughter go around with men almost twice her age doing unspeakable things to her, and all with my consent. Perhaps her parents were doing the inevitable but I wondered if they actually even put up a fight and not sign over their rights so easily. I realise times were different then but even then, it was still seen as wrong to have teenagers having sex with each other let alone a teenage girl to be having sex with a man much older than she was/is.Lori Maddox was 14 years old and two years later, it would come crashing down when Jimmy Page dumped her for another groupie, Bebe Buell (Liv Tyler’s mother). Even though it was only two years, she was still a minor when it began and she was still underage when it all stopped. When interviewed about it, she did confirm that she was under the age of consent when Page pursued her. With the #MeToo era shedding new light on old experiences, Lori has admitted to seeing the situation differently.“I think that’s what made me start seeing it from a different perspective because I did read a few [articles], and I thought: ‘Shit, maybe. I never thought there was anything wrong with it, but maybe there was. I used to get letters telling me he was a pedophile, but I’d never think of him like that. He never abused me, ever. I don’t think underage girls should sleep with guys. I wouldn’t want this for anybody’s daughter. My perspective is changing as I get older and more cynical.”She wasn’t the only one as another 14 year old, Julia Holcomb also became a groupie at the age of 14 years old, this time to Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. And just like Lori Maddox, her parents also signed over their guardianship of the 14 year old to Steven Tyler so she could travel around with him. He was 27 years old at the time and dated and did drugs with Julia for three years when she got pregnant and had an abortion upon Tyler’s insistence. He then began dating Bebe Buell (just like Jimmy Page) before finally returning Julia to her parents some time later that same year she was 17 years old. He mentioned Julia in his book “Walk This Way” as Diane Hall to conceal her identity but accounts of his few years with her in the book have been disproved by Julia herself and she has given numerous interviews to tell her side of the story. Either way, getting involved with a 14 year old girl when you are twice her age is messed up all around. So in my opinion, this was possibly the most depraved thing a rock star had done because with all the cocaine, heroin and alcohol they were abusing, at least they were doing it to themselves. They had the money to throw away like water and they did because they wanted to. But with groupies, underage ones like Lori and Julia, it would seem that they were just children who were blinded by the fame and money and could have been coaxed into it so it would have been up to the adults there, the ones who were above the legal age who should have known better and not get themselves involved with them. A big part of the blame could be laid upon her parents who signed their rights away and many things could be said about that but I know that if it had been my daughter, I would have gone to the police kicking and screaming my way in and done everything in my power to not have my daughter be in the company of a group of men much older than her, much less travel around the world with them. Even if everything they had done with her, to both girls, were with their consents, how much consent could a 14 year old give willingly and with full absolute knowledge of what she would be getting herself into?!Groupies will never truly go away but with the post MeToo era comes more caution and awareness of these situations and it is no longer acceptable for underage girls to be lusting after music artistes and treating it like a high school crush. Just as it is important to educate girls about saying ‘no’ means ‘no’, it is also important to educate them on what they do when they are in the company of the opposite sex, especially those who are older than they are. They should never feel that they have to do things they wouldn’t normally do just because they are in the company of someone powerful and/ or famous, like a rock star.Edited to include the story about Julia Holcomb and Steven Tyler.
