Thanks for A2A.Before answering this question I would like to know why do you want to join NSS?I don’t think it would be very useful. College students usually join NSS to add some social work in their CV. Most of them aren’t really passionate about social work but who doesn’t want a good CV? What is better than NSS when you are a fresher?You are already a graduate, working in a bank. I don’t think you really want to do this for your CV. I suppose working people usually join NGOs because they want to make a difference, not because it would be on their CV.I never saw any professional in the group or maybe I never noticed. But you can certainly go to the nearest college which has NSS society and ask you can join. Go when the college starts and talk to the coordinator.I don’t think they would mind having a professional. If they say you can’t join then tell them how it would be better if a senior to manage students and talk to locals. it should work.But again, I don’t think it would be beneficial.I don’t think college NSS societies have any dearth of volunteers, so many students are ready to do it for CV. If you specifically want to join NSS then go and talk to the coordinator.If you are open to other social firms but NSS is the only one you know about then I can suggest some.Robin Hood Army: It is a volunteer-based NGO where people negotiate with food outlets for surplus food and distribute to people who live on streets or don’t have enough food. Thanks for the A2A. Yes. For me, no doubt. I am a 37 year old, work from home, married professional. There are many people like me. Why the great fit, as others have mentioned: (1) cost-of-living, (2) beauty, (3) friendly people.Single, younger me (from college thru the prime of my single-hood, approximately 22–28) would have had some issues. At that time, I sought late-night fun, with like-minded (RE: equally as east-coast/high-strung) individuals who wanted to conquer the planet using the Internet.There is a growing startup population here. But unless you’re a remote-working wonder or a one-man-wrecking ball, go south, young man.(And if you’re either of those things? Go south still.)Corporate professionals or local executives may find their options limited. Many ambitious, hard-working folk establish Spokane as home base as they travel to work in places like North Dakota (oil, wind farms, etc). There is certainly a farming community as you go out a ways. One nice thing about Snow-kane is that the economy is more diversified than, say, a Seattle. Traffic is tolerable. Real estate is on the rise, but house prices are less obnoxious than for our friends in the west.So let’s say you’ve outgrown and/or have no interest in rockstar, alcohol fueled weekends and 12-hour, open-bar, ping-pong fueled workdays of some SAAS companies…Do you have kids? Spokane is juuust enough worldly without the celebrity/materialism worship. Decent public schools, tho all are (obviously) not created equal.Are you trying to get away/start over? Make sure you’ve got a job before you sign a lease. Some great employers, some garbage employers (just like anywhere else). Make sure you scrutinize those offering sales gigs. But yes. You can reinvent yourself in the 5–0–9. Especially if your idea of health centers around mercilessly throwing your legs at the pavement in running shoes, cycling cleats, or leisure walks.I wouldn’t recommend Spokane to anybody trying to escape a past (or current) drug problem. Or anybody in need of exceptional medical care.If you’re coming from California and you don’t hate cold weather, you’re going to love it (and live like a king). If you’re a Pats/Red Sox/Celtics fan, you will be welcomed with opened arms, as northeasterns are everywhere.I would ALSO (highly) recommend Spokane for anybody who wants to further their spiritual walk with Christ. Life is more simple here. Lots of wonderful churches in the area and many powerful opportunities for ministry and to make a local impact.In conclusion: the grass is greenest whenever you water it.
