Decently-written and well-timed answers on interesting issues have a good chance of going viral and getting its author attention.Blog posts are relatively new and play only an auxiliary role in Quora content distribution and consumption. Also, they are solely focused on the post author. In comparison, the Q-and-A format is Quora's bread and butter and offers a decent chance for others to have a say on the subject at hand.These may be some reasons that motivate people to write a well-framed post, ask a suitable question, and answer it immediately.Examples:In the last two days I've come across these two answers with 200+ upvotes:1. Kedar Kholiya's answer to Somalia: What are the some unknown facts about Somalia?I spotted them because of the recently "answered in x minutes" feature rolled out by Quora, and verified that the question asker and top answerer were same person.dead giveawayI searched for this question because I noticed this trend and wanted to write about it. If no one had asked such a question, do you think it'd be okay for me to ask one myself and answer it immediately? :)

How does the price vary by location and quality? are fine to post on Quora even though it is illegal to buy cocaine in many places.One reason for not having a rule is that there are Quora users all over the world, and laws vary in different countries. Also, learning about illegal activities on Quora doesn't necessarily mean performing illegal activities. In fact, it is a good way to learn about illegal things without having to participate.That said, some of these questions might not be OK for other reasons besides asking about illegal activities.For example, a question like "What method should I use to murder Charlie Cheever?" would contain an implicit threat to kill me which would violate the site policy about being nice and generally be harassment.The act of asking some questions, for example about kiddie porn or that contained implicit threats against the POTUS might be illegal to even post publicly; the details would matter a lot in cases like these.As I read it, as long as questions and answers aren’t harassing people, knowledge pertaining to those questions and answers is allowed and encouraged on Quora. This is essentially just a rehash of Quora's "Be Nice, Be Respectful" policy.That answer also explicitly acknowledges that learning how to do something illegal doesn’t mean somebody is actually going to use that knowledge. Knowledge itself isn’t good, evil, lawful, or unlawful… it’s the application of knowledge which matters.
