Leave Extension Form: Fill & Download for Free

I was on active duty in the Navy, so couldn’t resign, but if I had been a civilian I sure would have.Stationed overseas and had returned to the states on leave for 2 weeks. While there my (then) Mother-in-law wound up in intensive car with congestive heart failure and the doctors were telling us to prepare for the worst. We were 2 days away from returning to Europe.I called my command and requested a leave extension but was denied. My OIC was also on leave, and the Command Master Chief was left in charge and he said no (we definitely had a personality conflict). I contacted the Chaplain, who contacted the command but he could make no headway, so we returned to the command.The very next day, my Brother-in-law contacted the Red Cross, who sent an emergency leave notification to the command. To disapprove emergency leave with a Red Cross message requires significant operational justification which the command just did not have.For those who don’t know, whenever a member stationed outside the Continental US receives a red cross message the member AND THEIR ENTIRE FAMILY (I was married with 4 kids at the time) are returned, at command expense, round trip via commercial carrier, to the point of entry in the US on emergency leave.Here is the good part: He called me into his office, angrily waving the Red Cross message at me and started berating me about how flying 6 people round trip was going to “break the bank” on the command’s travel allowance. He was absolutely livid and assumed I had orchestrated the whole thing because of his refusal to grant a leave extension. I had no idea BIL was going to do this BTW. I explained that I didn’t have anything to do with it, and that if he had just said yes to the leave extension he wouldn’t be dealing with this right now, but that unless he had some good operational reason to deny the emergency leave, I’d be heading him to repack my bags and he should let me know when I could come get my plane tickets.Here’s the best line int he whole conversation: after turning 6 shades of red and sputtering about he says “But, what if she doesn’t die!”I told him I thought that would be a GOOD thing, but if he insisted I’d hold a pillow over her face if it made him feel better.We were on a plane the next morning, I filed a formal grievance and he was removed from my chain of command and then it was suggested he retire.Also, she did pass, the day we returned, and we were able to be there long enough for the funeral.Some day I hope I run into him again.

This is Singlish (i.e. Singapore English or similar.)It means “I’ll get back to you on your leave extension.”In English, it makes no sense: “revert” means to go back to a previous state.If all you have is English as a second language in Singapore and the Concise Oxford Dictionary, the sentence seems obvious: “I will go back to this later.”oh, and “leave extension” just means a prolonging of your vacation or trip.
