What's the rudest thing someone has done to you at a restaurant?

Not at a restaurant per se, but during a banquet at an upscale hotel on Sanibel Island, Florida. It was a semi-large corporate event, about 125 people who had already been at the hotel for 3–4 days and we had been serving them most of their meals. On the last night of their stay, it was their more formal event, a themed 5-course meal with an open bar, music and lots of fun and enjoyment going on.It was the main dinner course and I was carrying a tray with 12 dinners on it (yeah, I was a waiting stud). As I enter the room, I notice one of the guests at a table near mine that was showing signs of choking. There were two other servers just standing there, not making a move to do anything. The guy’s ‘buddy’, a 400-pound behemoth, was slamming him on the back with his open palm, yelling, “cough it up buddy!”As quickly as I could, I set my tray down, and rushed over to the table. I immediately yell at the big guy to stop slapping his friend, “Stop hitting him!” The big guy was shocked that I had yelled at him, but I didn’t have time to worry about that. I started to look the guy choking in the face to get absolute confirmation that he is indeed choking, but he was already turning dark purple and the signs of distress were obvious. He was seated, and pretty trim/athletic, so it made it easier to find two fingers down below his sternum and … I gave one hard tug … nothing, a second hard tug with a little more upward force and POP! Out flies a piece of steak that shoots to the centerpiece of the table. The guy choking takes one big breath and then proceeds to vomit right on his plate and lap. Two other people at the table barf upon seeing him chuck it up and I was almost right there with him. I had a rush of adrenaline so bad that I felt like my jaw was clenched hard enough to break my teeth and felt jittery like I was shivering in the cold. The big guy just stared at the table with his mouth agape. He then slowly turned to me and just laid into me. “You stupid shithead, you’ve ruined our meal! You’ve ruined our entire dinner and nearly killed my friend you f***ing a**hole!” The choking victim was obviously embarrassed about what had happened and quickly made his way out of the room (I suppose he must have gone to the restroom to clean up). But, the big guy wasn’t done with me. He was standing up screaming at me now, spittle flying, finger pointing, demanding my termination and wanting to talk to the banquet manager, the hotel manager, the owner of the hotel, he wanted my head on a platter. I simply nodded towards my manager (Terri) and turned around to put my table’s dishes down. The music was loud enough that only two or three of the ~10 tables saw/heard what had happened. I served my dishes and then left the dining room, eager to get out of the room and the loud music that was suddenly making my head throb. I couldn’t believe I was going to lose my job for helping a guest who was choking.——————————————————I don’t know what my manager said, I just headed to the service staff area and needed a break. She ended up giving my table to someone else and I just did food/drink running (up and down two flights of stairs, ugh) the rest of the night. I went home late (2am?) after cleaning up and had to be in early the next morning at 6am to setup for the group’s continental breakfast. Even though I was exhausted, I don’t think I slept a wink all night. The next day, I go into work and get told I’m to head straight to the front office. I hadn’t been to the front office since the day of my interview for the job, so I figured I was about to get fired. To my surprise, the manager of the hotel, my manager and one of the owners was there waiting for me. They shook my hand as soon as I entered the office and put me at ease. They thanked me and told me that the man whose life I had saved was one of the VPs for the company and that he was embarrassed, but extremely grateful for me saving his life. He normally never drank because he was a triathlete, but he had drunk (too much) and was trying to talk while eating when the meat got lodged in his throat. He requested that I come up to his room when I got in so that he could thank me in person. I went up to his room, we talked a bit, he thanked me and told me he had talked down the big guy and then told me he was giving me a big tip ($500). At their farewell lunch that afternoon, he got up to speak, thanking me again and the whole group gave me a standing ovation (even the ‘big guy’; he never apologized though). My colleagues gave me a hard time for about 2 weeks, telling others that I had made a guest vomit all over the table, but they did it lightheartedly. I just made fun of them right back saying they had stood around like a bunch of gutted fish with their mouths hanging open.

Do you have to give cash to your friends as wedding gifts in your country?

Actually yes, we do too. In fact, our practise here in Singapore is to give angbaos (cash) to the couples instead of gifts. One of the main reasons would be that we wish to help the couple to cover some of their costs spent on the wedding and reduce their losses. The factors determining the amount given will be:the venue of the banquetwhether it's a lunch banquet or dinner banquethow close you are to the bride and groomyour personal financial situation (we all understand:) )

Feedbacks from Our Clients

We use CocoDoc for our attorney marketing agency and it does its job perfectly. It's incredibly easy to draft a document using templates, including the ability to brand everything with specific colors and logos. Our clients enjoy the straightforward nature of the completed document, giving them clear instructions on where to sign. The system has a handy dashboard that gives an overview of where our contracts stand: how many need action on our side, whether there are documents waiting for signatures from clients, and if any time-sensitive contracts are expiring soon. Additionally, there's a nice reporting tool built in with lifetime metrics like completion rate, send volume, and overall status. It's just powerful enough to provide useful measurements without being cumbersome or esoteric with stats that no one would be interested in.
