After that, many efficiency features were removed and it became slower for the experienced user to accomplish the same work. (Of course, for grandma checking mails from the grandchildren with a mouse clicking menus, there was no degradation.)Similarly, Word and Excel were the best, until version 2003. After that, they added efficiency impeding features that slow everything down for the experienced user.Essentially, later Office versions removed the original Windows menu system which grouped menu items according to logical functional groups, eg: File, Edit, Tools, Format, Help, …etc. Now (some) menu items are grouped by a hip factor known only to a select group of hipsters.Previously, fast keys were simple and straightforward, with the mnemonic underlined. But the underline was considered not hip enough and it is now black squares that block out important information:The above sample also shows the fallacious design philosophy. More than 50% of the expensive screen real estate above is occupied by graphical images that are useless and clueless to everyone. Will you be able to use the above menu if the words “Select”, “View”, “Properties”, “Draw”, etc were removed? Won’t you be able to work with the same efficiency if ALL the graphical images were simply removed?
