When you go to a buffet, you’re paying for one meal in particular, unless you’re invited to take part in the next meal service they’re offering.My sister and I went to Home Town Buffet for a very late lunch. We wanted their salad bar, which in this particular location is very good. We also took small portions of the lunch buffet such as grilled chicken, potatoes, a taste of the macaroni and cheese. We were there at around three-thirty, due to our hectic schedule that day.At four, the selections were starting to change, because five o’clock would bring the dinner menu. Rather than ask us to leave, the manager came to our table and invited us to partake of the additional/different dishes coming out of the kitchen. He knew we weren’t there to stuff ourselves. (We’re large, but the point of a buffet isn’t to overindulge but to enjoy a wide variety of selections.) He wanted to make sure we knew he was fine with our sampling the dinner offerings, if we wanted to do so. It was very nice to be invited, even though we were happy and satisfied with the lunch items we’d eaten.I feel it’s all in how you comport yourself. Respect shown brings you respect in kind.

If it is about lunch then I shall look at the menu first. In real life situation, I prefer to have lunch alone and I am not very interested in talking to dictators or notorious celebrities. This picture gives you a rough idea of how a formal meal at the Imperial Palace in Hue (19th century) might have looked. But I say, only a rough idea, because a complete dinner menu for the Emperor, his mother and his wife may run up to sixty courses. To date, no one has been able to reconstruct a complete set of menu. The meal as shown below was a simplified one and had been restored as faithfully as possible based on careful research and that effort even took several years.According to court etiquette prior to the 20th century, the Emperor, his mother, and his principal wife always ate alone. No one was allowed to join them at the table. People might sit at separate tables at banquets.Those extravagant dishes might come from the palace kitchen or from the kitchens of various court ladies.But I heard in reality, the Vietnamese Imperial Family rarely ate those. They sampled just a bit in order not to offend those who cooked them, and then they bestowed all those dishes to their favourite concubines, mandarins, and generals as a mark of favour.
