You're joking right? How can you tell when a junkie is lying? Their lips are moving.But! We are not allowed to refuse to transport them.My favorites were the “seizure" calls who wanted the IV benzos. Funnily enough, when the arm of the “unconscious” person was lifted 6″ above their face and let go, it NEVER hit them in the nose — the arm always landed above the head on the pillow. Huh. Funny. And no incontinence either — ever. Things that make you go, “Hmmmm “.The only time I've ever seen EMS given leeway to refuse transport was around 2002 in New Mexico, during a bad flu season. Suddenly everyone and their abuela wanted transport to the ER for a sore throat, overwhelming the system. I think it was Statewide, the new protocol, that only those who had fever >103.4 were to be transported, or infants, etc. One other time was during Hurricane Irma in Florida in 2017: EMS was refusing to go *to* the house unless it was a stroke or heart attack, long bone fracture, fall with head trauma, etc. They were sheltering in place at our hospital, and *I* was there for five days! We were on lockdown! But that was Dispatch running interference on sending EMS, not EMS refusing to transport.

This is why I always copy the original question at the start of my answer.Some edits are downright malicious, some are well meant but change the tone or meaning which can make a huge different to how I answer.I only edit questions when there’s a blindingly obvious spelling mistake. I never mess about with the wording. If it’s a bad question, I downvote and move on.
