PDF Editor FAQ

How will the field of (Interventional) Radiology evolve in the coming decades?

Diagnostic Radiology (DR) and Interventional Radiology (IR) are very different fields:Diagnostic Radiologists primarily interpret diagnostic imaging (X-rays, CTs, MRIs, ultrasounds, nuclear imaging).IRs perform image-guided procedures (too many to name, but see the interventional radiology wikipedia page or Society of Interventional Radiology page for details; or check out the Interventional Initiative - HOME for a more patient-friendly description of what interventional radiologists do).As such, AI will change each field in different ways, and the time-frames for when AI will be incorporated into the practice of each field will also likely be different, as AI may sooner be able to aide in the interpretation of images than in making manual procedures easier/faster. But we will see. Most likely, though, AI will make both practitioners more quick, more efficient, and likely also improve patient care.

How do you feel while studying BDS or after studying BDS if you were not able to get an MBBS seat?

Honestly, no regrets.Atleast not in the system where someone with a much lower merit gets to pursue MBBS in a Government college or gets a Government seat in a private college because they hold a sheet of paper while those who don’t are left with the only option of paying exorbitant fees to secure a management seat in a private college which not all can afford. Moreover, I firmly believe that their is no point thinking about what could have, because if it should have then it would have. Maybe I wouldn’t have fit being a MBBS Doctor. Maybe that is not the life I would have enjoyed.BDS has somewhat similar course to MBBS. We also have Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, etc but instead of subjects of Medical specialities like ENT, Radiology, Pediatrics we have Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral Radiology and Medicine, etc.Aesthetics and Hand skills play a major role in Dentistry so we are taught about differet aspects of colour and light, asked to carve teeth out of wax, make Dentures, etc. It hones the artistic side, a win-win for someone who was suggested to pursue Designing all her life(Yes, even though I do not have half the skills as my friends who are pursuing Designing but everyone I have known has said this once)I like Anatomy as much as my brain likes to forget it :’)That’s a Primary Impression of Edentulous maxillary arch with it’s landmark. That little red mark on my hand is because my blade went through the skin and we refer it as injured in action.PROS:Dentistry has lesser work load, no emergency duties so personal life won’t be affected. Lesser stress.Since, Dentistry is in itself a sort of specialization so one can enter job market a little earlier. Not experiencing patients dying. Instead, they walk out with a smile(For the emotional piece of shit I am, this is very important. I felt like crying even for the cadever so I better be out).CONS but look it the other way:People gonna say “You are not a Doctor” and then show up when they could not sleep the night before due to a toothache.Meme pages will make fun but people can’t smile if they don’t have teeth.A lot of Dentists but 32 teeth of each one in a 1.3B population can accomodate moreThese are just for pictures, I don’t study like that XD

What are hospitals not allowed to do to you that they often do?

Many people, especially the elderly and the underserved (people with economic difficulties and low education) don’t realize that “doctor’s orders” doesn’t mean they HAVE to comply with what’s being asked of them.Numerous people have asked me, “Do I have to?” in response to me telling them that (for instance) “Your doctor ordered a flu shot,” or “Your child’s doctor ordered a sputum specimen for which I’ll need to suction his airway.”I always tell people that a “doctor’s order” just means that a physician recommends something. It doesn’t mean you HAVE to do something. If the patient/family (I was a pediatric nurse most of my career so I interacted with families a lot) didn’t understand why something was ordered, and I couldn’t adequately answer their questions, I’d page the physician to talk to them. One parent, whose child had been in the hospital for weeks with a congenital heart problem, told me I was the only nurse who ever offered to page a physician for them; apparently this became such an issue, that the hospital where I worked for 25+ years both created a policy stating that nurses could NOT refuse to page a physician for a patient AND also created a “stat line” that patient, families, and nurses could call if they felt a patient had an issue that was not being adequately addressed by the current medical staff caring for them. When a hospital comes out with this kind of a policy, you can be sure there has been at least one sentinel event to prompt it.Parents who were uncertain about whether they should acquiesce to a doctor’s order would often ask me, “What do you think?” Or, “If this was your child, what would you do?” I was always honest with them. Because I worked at a teaching hospital, we got some crazy-@ss orders from brand-new interns that were NOT part of the normal protocol for a work-up (such as that order to suction a child for a sputum specimen—I don’t remember what the child’s issue was, but it had NOTHING to do with sputum and suctioning for sputum was NOT part of a normal work-up. I had asked the physician if he was really sure he wanted me to suction the child; I noted that suctioning a 3-year-old is fairly traumatic and that nobody else had ever asked me to do such a thing. This was in the 1980s, the doc was pissed that I dared to question his order, and he told me to do it).In the case of the child who really did not warrant a suctioned sputum specimen, I told the mother, “If this was my child, I’d say no.” She was appreciative, said no, and I informed the physician, who of course gave me the stink eye.Anybody going into the hospital should know that “doctor’s orders” are his/her recommendations. A hospital is not a prison (I’ve said that to MANY patients in the course of explaining their rights). If nobody has explained to you the reason for a particular lab draw or radiology scan, you have every right (and obligation) to ask why it’s being done. AND you have the right to use your good judgment to decline what you don’t want/need.Note: This does not mean it’s OK to “ show your ass” (figuratively speaking) or to be ignorantly resistant when you or a family member are admitted to a hospital. Being unpleasant is the fastest way to get yourself or your family member discharged from a hospital whether you are ready or not. (One of my patients who had a post-partum urinary tract infection got discharged on the spot when she threatened to kill another patient she knew from the street. “What about my urinary tract infection?” she asked the physician. “Oh, don’t worry about it, we’re discharging you RIGHT NOW,” was his response. And we did.)Violently “suicided” by my NAVAIR in-laws & freemasonry at UF Health.
