My son accused me of being racist against travellers. He is a member of the local Athletics club based at a council sports centre.Some travellers turned up , didn't camp at the council supplied site funded by our taxes.They intimidated the staff into leaving, Broke into the equipment stores smashed up hurdles, allowed their dogs to shit in the long and high jump pits, broke into the centre and stole wiring and piping ,were there 3 days the Police apparently unable to move them. They finally left after about a week leaving behind all their shit to be cleaned up from our taxes.He now agrees with me.How do you honestly acquire £20000 caravans selling clothes pegs and fortune telling.There were 2 court cases that stand out in my memory of travelers jailed for extortion against old age pensioners for supposed building work.I was once told by an acquaintance in the Police force that thefts from farms and outbuildings peaked about the time of year the travelers passed through the area.Maybe my son and I imagined it,maybe the Local newspaper is a lying fascist rag, maybe my acquaintance is institutionally racist.If it smells like shit,tastes like shit and looks like shit it probably is shit.ps I live in Scotland.

I really have no idea how this can be achieved on a practical level. Its an issue Ireland really struggles with. I would direct you towards Pavee Point, which is a Traveller lobby and support group based in Ireland. Hence the name of the people and the lake, and now the two Territorial administrative regions.The town of Slave Lake and Lesser Slave Lake in Alberta were named that because that is where the Cree First Nations used to buy and sell Slavey First Nations people.Most of the slaves in Canada were not blacks being held by whites (which was banned shortly after the American Revolution), but Native people being held as slaves by other Native people.The Slavey First Nations around Great Slave Lake might be consulted about it, but I think that they basically don’t care what the White Men in the south think or say.The Sawridge First Nation in the town of Slave Lake operates a travel centre and a chain of hotels in various Alberta cities and towns. When I stayed in their first hotel in Slave Lake and filled up my car at their travel centre many years ago, I realized that they really knew how to run a business.
