School Excuse Note Form: Fill & Download for Free

Yes, I experience it every day.I am a pediatric resident in New York, and not a day goes by without a child coming in to get a school excuse note. This is most common on Mondays or the day after holidays or long weekends (think New Year or Christmas). Sometimes parents make plans for long weekends and instruct their children to act a certain way so that they can get a school excuse note from us. Kids are usually so innocent that it's plain obvious once you see them. A kid with a pain score of 10 suddenly will start playing with the Nintendo Wii once it is in the vicinity (we have ChildLife providers to entertain the children who are admitted) and continue to say he/she has pain of 10. A child brought in for 12 episodes of vomiting at home will suddenly want the same ice cream their sibling was offered (usually by a smart nurse). Usually we send them back to school once they are ‘cured’ but we cannot paint everyone with the same brush. North American winters are brutal and a lot of people are without electricity at the moment. Sometimes we see chronic patients come in complaining of pain which I suspect has more to do with them not having food at home or indoor heating than their illness. Sometimes teenagers use the hospital as a means of getting away from abuse at home, and finding opportunity to seek help. It is hard to find a person's motive with just one evaluation so it is important to keep a broad mind without dismissing their claims and discharging them home.

Can I excuse myself from high school?Legally you can write your own excuse notes at 18, as you are an adult. Be aware, however, that the school is not obligated to give you an excused absence if it doesn't fulfill their requirements for one. It's just the same as if your parents wrote it. If it doesn't meet the requirements for an excused absence, it won't fly.
