They both care about the planet and have dedicated a good amount of time to save it and its people. And they’ve both participated in great and entertaining films.I think we’re the winners just for having the two of them around.

Well, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were both nominated for Oscars, and The Dark Knight won two Oscars -- one for Best Sound Editing and one for Best Supporting Actor -- and was nominated for six other Oscars. So the movies did in fact win some awards. The third film, The Dark Knight Rises, wasn't nominated for a single award, though, which was very unexpected.As for why the series didn't receive any Oscars for Best Picture, and why none of the films got a nomination for Best Director, I think that stems from a continued bias against the genre among the older Academy members. There's been a backlash against the superhero film genre -- and specifically, against Christopher Nolan and his Batman films -- among a lot of critics (especially members of a particular film critics' society) and some folks in Hollywood who think they are defending the integrity of art against degradation by mass opinion, some of whom have singled out Nolan and his fan base for a great deal of animosity and condemnation in articles and reviews (some literally published articles in advance of the release of Inception calling for reviewers to give it bad reviews just on principle, to counter the widespread positive reaction to the film, and to put Nolan and his fans in their place).After The Dark Knight failed to get an expected Best Picture nod, the surprised reaction was so intense that the Academy changed the method of nominations to expand the Best Picture list to ten films.So the Batman film series did in fact get several Oscar nominations, and even won a couple of awards, even though it might have failed to garner some of the nominations that were expected. At the end of the day, the trilogy has plenty to be proud of, and the Academy did recognize two of the three films, so there's still plenty to be happy about in that regard.

Another wheelchair bound character, Cruise was nominated for Born on the Fourth of July (1989) - IMDb.Morgan Freeman - IMDb. Nominated for Driving Miss Daisy (1989) - IMDb, I would have placed him bottom of the list, only because I love the other four movies more.Kenneth Branagh - IMDb. Played the title role in Henry V (1989) - IMDb, he also got a Best Director nomination for this movie, but he did not win that either.Robin Williams - IMDb. He was a talented comedic actor, but I much preferred his dramatic works, one of my favourites is Dead Poets Society (1989) - IMDb.Any other year, I could see Cruise getting the nod, but Daniel-Day Lewis was the deserved winner, who went the extra mile. He stayed in the wheel chair throughout filming, being carried in it to and from the set, he even went to restaurants in it.
