In order for this story to be credible the following facts need to be true:Hunter Biden, or his representative, dropped off three expensive but water damaged Mac Books with a Delaware computer repair shop - but left no identifying information so that the repair shop could contact them with an estimate or alert them when the repairs were completed, then never returned to collect their expensive laptops. [Edit: as Cameron Fraser pointed out in a comment - we need to believe that these laptops belonging to Hunter Biden were dropped off at a repair shop in Delaware - when Hunter Biden lives and works in Los Angeles!)The owner of the repair shop deduced that at least one of three abandoned Mac Book Computers belonged to Hunter Biden because it had a Beau Biden election sticker on it. Obviously (to the conspiracy theorists) only Biden’s brother would place a free campaign sticker on their laptop as its only identifying information.The owner managed to restore the water damaged hard-drives and recover some e-mails from them (this I believe).These e-mails were supposed to be from a native Ukrainian speaker who did not use the correct (Ukrainian) spelling of the name of his country. The sender’s fractured English has no relation to actual Ukrainian syntax or grammar.Despite the sender’s status as a highly-placed business man, he used a generic U.S. gmail account - not an account with a .ua or .biz.ua extension. (.ua is the normal extension for a server located in Ukraine)The email thanked Hunter Biden for setting up a meeting with his (Biden’s) father, but there was no mention of the supposed time and date for this meeting, or whether the meeting actually happened, was merely proposed - or if this e-mail was just a request for a meeting with Joe Biden. (Note that Joe Biden’s schedule is public and that no meeting with any Ukrainian businessman is on it anywhere within months prior or after the supposed e-mail).Instead of providing a copy of the actual e-mail, which would include formatting and routing data, Giuliani only provided a .pdf image of the text; pdfs are very easily manipulated, so we need to trust that the pdf was an accurate depiction of the e-mail and wasn’t “enhanced” by anyone along the chain of custody.The hard drive also contained video of Hunter Biden smoking crack, because, of course, if someone is going to use crack they would film it, keep a copy on an unsecured laptop and then drop said unsecured laptop off at a repair shop and never retrieve it. I mean, what is more fun than watching yourself smoke crack, right? Crackheads are stupid, but not as stupid as this story purports to be.The repair shop owner then contacted the FBI about his find, gave them the hard-drive but made a back-up copy of the hard-drive for himself as insurance (because who trusts the FBI, right?). No, the repair shop owner made a back-up copy of the hard drive and then was contacted by the FBI - who seized the original hard drive but not the copy. No, the FBI somehow found out about the hard-drive, seized it and threatened the repair shop owner’s life - or not. (The repair shop owner’s story has changed several times, sometimes within the same interview.)The repair shop owner then contacted Rudy Giuliani with information about his find, which just happened to confirm the story Rudy has been investigating for over a year. Why did he wait to contact Rudy? Or if he contacted Rudy months ago, why didn’t Rudy reveal this “stunning evidence” before?The FBI, for whatever reason, has had the original hard-drives for months but done no investigations. Or suppressed the findings of the investigation. We are supposed to believe the information recovered from the hard-drive never made it into any report, was never was passed on to a superior, never leaked to the press? Instead the heads of several Intelligence Agencies, including the FBI, have repeatedly warned that the whole Hunter Biden-something-something-corruption-Ukraine story is Russian propaganda being spread by known Russian assets and Russian agents who have had been in contact with Rudy Giuliani.This hard-hitting story was then revealed by a person with no journalistic experience (she was a former booker for Hannity) in a disreputable New York tabloid, because that just screams integrity and truth.Look, I get that to many believers of Conspiracy Theories the lack of evidence is “proof” that the conspiracy exists; but this mess stinks like last month’s fish.If the evidence is there, let’s see that actual e-mail(s) complete with its tracking data to see where it was sent from and where it was received. Let someone who is experienced check out the actual hard-drive (wherever it is) to determine if it was tampered with, when the files were generated and by whom.Put Up or Shut Up.Until then, I will remain deeply skeptical.

They were mostly kids when the Korean War happened, and the middle of the generation was in the heart of Vietnam.More than that, there was the counterculture of the 60’s in the heart of this generation, rebelling against the squares of the straight-laced GI Generation and their suits and Leave It to Beaver phony order.This was a generation that when they were the same age as me, hell, younger than I am now, were rioting and lighting shit on fire for women’s rights and protesting the Vietnam War, blasting the 8-track of Fortunate Son and going to Woodstock, giving the finger to anyone over thirty, dropping out and getting high.Post-WWII geopolitics such as the Red Scare, mutually-assured-destruction, and the Cuban Missile Crisis led to a deep distrust of the older establishment and a sense that the GI Generation no longer had a grip on how to run the world. You had people like Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Reuben, Bernardine Dorhn, and groups like the SDS. There were race riots and pushes to de-segregate that were met with intense opposition.Mass communication such as the prevalence of television, transistor radios that made it possible to have a truly portable broadcast receiver, and the breakdown of the Hayes Code for media censorship dramatically changed this generation’s consciousness.Even fashions changed dramatically in the 60’s and 70’s to the unending dismay and derision of the previous generation. Beehive hairdos, long hair on men, shorter skirts, the abandonment of the conservative and formal attire of the GI Generation for Levis, T-shirts, and more casual dress codes created a widening generation gap, to the delight of the Boomers proud to be “sticking it to the man.”The Boomers relished in causing grief to their parents, ignoring them and disrespecting them. They felt that the older generation had lost touch with the realities of the modern world, had screwed it up, and were no longer worthwhile to pay attention to.Look at the music of that generation.Look at “Only a Pawn in Their Game” by Bob Dylan. Barry McGuire’s “Eve of Destruction” was banned by many radio stations for attacking the hypocrisy of the establishment. Listen to the Plastic Ono Band’s “Give Peace a Chance,” recorded in a Montreal hotel room by people like Timothy Leary, Abbie Hoffman, Alan Ginsberg, John and Yoko, which was intended to embody the mass riotous demonstrations. How about “A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke?And now, as they say, the wheel has turned.The generations of today are a new counterculture, rebelling at the Boomer generation just as they did to their GI Generation parents. Gen X is caught in the middle much as the Silent Generation was.My generation is in part pissed as fuck at being treated like kids. The oldest Millennials are forty. Most of us are in our thirties; as I said, we’re older than the Boomers were when they rebelled at the generations before them. We’re not kids anymore.We’re also pissed as fuck at being told that it’s our fault that the world is in the shape it is in because we’re “entitled.” Entitled? You know what my generation dreams of? A reliable car and to live without debt that can’t even be discharged in bankruptcy.You, Boomers, you were the ones who had the political power for thirty to forty years. Remember when you were gonna change the world?The fact of the matter is that your generation blew it.You did.You blew it.You already knew back in the 60’s that the environment mattered and that we needed to do something about it. Your generation knew that. And then you quit doing anything about it. Once the Cuyahoga River stopped burning, you quit, because your stock portfolio was more important. The oil companies knew, they knew that climate change was going to kill the planet, and instead of your generation getting a handle on it, you said “drill, baby, drill,” and you kept dumping carbon into the atmosphere.You knew that the military industrial complex was going to entrench itself, and you knew the value of education and investment into infrastructure and social safety nets. And instead, you cashed out on taxpayer dollars as government contractors, voted down referendum after referendum for newer and better schools, cut state funding for higher education, and systematically torched the safety nets that made you wealthy in the first place.And then you declared yourselves “self-made” and told my generation to bootstrap ourselves up.You told us we had to go to college and saddled us with crippling debt because you promised that there would be jobs at the end of it, and guess what, that didn’t happen. Then you bought up the starter properties and razed them for McMansions you could retire into and drove up property values to the point where even renting is a third to half our income.And now we have goddamned Nazis in the streets of the United States and your response is basically ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. As long as the stock market is up, right?You had a chance and the knowledge to create a sustainable system of energy, and the realization that it was important to do so, back in your 20’s and 30’s.And you didn’t do it.You had a chance to fix a broken and corrupt system of capitalism and government, the way you swore you would in your 20’s and 30’s.And you didn’t do it.You knew that wealth inequality was bad and you saw firsthand how prosperous the nation could be when it was addressed. You had a chance to make sure that systems were in place to keep growing the middle class, the way you swore you would back in your 20’s and 30’s.And you didn’t do it.You had a chance to fix police brutality, the way you swore you would back in your 20’s and 30’s.And you didn’t do it.You had a bunch of chances to fix Social Security, which you will take much more out of than my generation ever will.And you didn’t do it.Instead, you sent us off to die in endless overseas wars for two decades for oil to put in your SUVs, paid for it on the US credit card, and handed us the bill.You blew it.You. California's governor has asked the attorney general to investigate why the state's gas prices are so high.Why ask the attorney general? The answer is very well known, and has been for a long time.The only reason for this asking would be to deflect criticism, and make it look like the governor is actually doing something, or trying to do something, on behalf of the people who get hit worst: lower income workers who have to travel for their jobs, and people who have to live far away from their jobs because of housing unavailability.Both of these groups take gas prices directly in the wallet.In your opinion why are gas prices so high in California?It’s not an opinion, it’s established fact.Start with California having the highest gas tax in the nation.Nominally, this exists to fund road related infrastructure projects, and mitigate costs of things like bridge tolls.Instead, the fund is consistently “borrowed from”, starting with Governor Jerry Brown, and not paid back in kind, being treated as a slush fund by the state of California. One of the things they’ve spent this money on is the “high speed rail to nowhere”, which California voters rejected not just once, but three times. The project went ahead anyway.Bridge tolls have similarly gone up, nominally to fund these projects, with the promise that the tolls would be reduced once the projects were completed, but the tolls have not come back down.The tax has just been raised another 18 cents; preparatory to raiding it yet again for a transportation workers jobs project funding for more work on the “high speed rail to nowhere”.Oxygenated fuel, AKA “boutique gas”.The University of Colorado at Boulder did a study in the early 1990’s that demonstrated oxygenated fuels has no effect on emissions of cars equipped with oxygen sensors. That’s any car manufactured after 1981, by federal law.It in fact increased overall emissions, as a result of causing the consumption of larger amounts of fuel to achieve the same results. You cannot import, for example, gasoline refined in the Chevron refineries in Salt Lake City, Utah, to California, because Utah does not reformulate their gasoline to the strict California requirements.The California reformulation requirements change frequently; at one point in time, they required adding the dangerous additive MTBE to fuel, resulting in an environmental cleanup problem.Part of the California costs for gasoline is the amortized cost of cleaning up the MTBE problem.This ensures California refiners a virtual monopoly on the California gasoline market, and they use this monopoly to set prices at the highest profit saddle point they can, in order to reap the most windfall profits they possible can.Supply manipulation happens.In the 1970’s, during the “energy crisis”, we were concerned with price collusion between gas station chains, setting the price in order to engage in profit taking.We even passed taxes on the gas stations, citing “windfall profits”.We ignored the refineries, which can just as effectively control the pump prices — without that level of collusion, since Chevron is the only major refiner in California — and which are not taxed at a higher rate for restricting overall supply.Refinery downtimes and maintenance periods are scheduled to occur around holidays and other high usage periods, so as to drive up the prices during periods when there is the most demand.Like Uber surge pricing, this increases the profits of the refineries, while providing no additional service or value to the consumer.The refineries have a large say in the reformulation which takes place, and can therefore dictate whatever is necessary in order to exclude imports from other states.Remember: reformulation has not been environmentally necessary, for all cars manufactured after 1981, when oxygen sensors became mandatory on all new vehicles. It’s only older cars which benefit, and they could benefit equally from additive reformulation, since they are required to use additives to deal with unleaded gasoline in any event.Trust me: Newsom is not interested in finding this out, because he’s already well aware of all of it.The investigation is nothing more than political grandstanding.
