Here you go!When there was no road interconnecting different part of Kerala especially Alleppey, Kumarakom and other places which are surrounded by canals and rivers then the only option of transporting goods and materials from one place to another place is by big wooden boats. These big wooden boats are famously known as Kettuvallams. In Malayalam language Kettu means Knot and Vallam means Boat. These boats were constructed by joining special wooden plackets side by side by coir. These big kettuvallams are manned & driven by two or three people with long bamboo poles who also used to live in the boat when traveling from one place to another place. They used to cook their own foods in the boat and have a place to sleep in the night.When there were road constructed in the low lying areas and people used to travel by road and these goods and materials is being transported by road then these big boats become idle. At the same time Kerala tourism was also growing and there was plenty of opportunity. By the initiative of Govt and some private parties, these boats were modernized and become houseboats.But a time come when most of these wooden boats got transformed into Houseboats, need arise to construct boats for houseboats. Basically there are three types of category of the boat available. Dlx (basic category), Premium, Luxury, Ultra luxury etc are the category of the boats. Below are the basic facilities available in a Dlx houseboat.· AC Bed room with attached bathroom.· Hot water facility – Most of the dlx houseboat does not provide this facility. If requested, these are being provided in a bucket. But there are few houseboat owners even provide hot water facility in dlx boat also.· Toiletries – Towel, soap, toilet roll, napkin.· Front open lobby lobby with sofa, comfortable seating etc.· Dining table and TV is being provided in the front lobby. But some of the houseboat even provide a separate dining room.· Top floor – Some of the houseboats have top floor where the view is good. But all the houseboats irrespective of category, does not provide this facility.· Full board basis. At present the classification of the houseboats are not mandatory to get license.Now days the ownership of respective companies or group make their own classification making Deluxe, Luxury, and Premium etc. In some companies the basic category is Deluxe, then premium and high end is branded as Luxury.Houseboat Trip Time, Check in and Check out time.Generally, Houseboat check in time is 12 P.M and check out is next day 09:00 Hrs. Some agencies allow check out at 09:30 Hrs. The check in and check out time is strictly maintained due to every day booking of boats. Since most of the booking of houseboats is exclusive private boats, the boat is supposed to be ready for check in at 12 P.M for the guests. In case of delayed checkout of previous guests, further check in will be delayed, and this may lead to complaints. Therefore, late check out from houseboat will not be allowed by respective agencies.Houseboat cruise time is from 12:00 Hrs to 17:30 Hrs with 1 hr lunch break. The boat will be hankered or stationary from 17:30 Hrs till next day 07:30 Hrs. Next day it starts at 07:30 Hrs and stop at 09:00 Hrs. Since the houseboat owners are not ready to give the compensation, Govt had imposed strict regulation for operational timing of houseboats.Why ac not working during day time?The houseboat is built in such a way that the guests should enjoy the stay and enjoy the natural beauty of the backwaters of Kerala. As mentioned earlier, the houseboat has a lobby in front of the boat which is having relaxing chairs, sun deck and a dining table. When the houseboat makes a cruise from 12:00 Hrs to 17:30 Hrs, this is the only time the guest can enjoy & feel the natural beauty of Kerala backwaters. When it stops at 17:30 Hrs or 18:00 Hrs, the guest does not have more options except to use the bed room, watch a movie etc. Since most of the time the guest is sitting in the lobby and watching the scenic beauty of Kerala backwaters, AC is being provided in the bed room after the dinner. This is the procedure adopts by all the boats. There are few exceptions on this which is given below.Since there are more requirements for good boats and facility by the guests, some of the agencies started constructing modern houseboats which have partial or full glass cover in the lobby. This partial or full glass cover in the lobby can provide full time air conditioning. These kind of boats will also protect from insects and mosquito after the sun set. Some of the agencies are also branding their boats are premium and giving full time ac in the bed room. But guests who are looking for a full time ac houseboat should ensure that the boat is fully glass covered. It is not worth to take a boat which is charging money for full time ac and ac is being provided in the bed room.What is the Food Available in Houseboat?The best part of houseboat experience is authentic Kerala food specially prepared for the guest in houseboat itself. Except few professional houseboat operators none of other houseboats provide Chinese and continental menu. Below is the common menu followed by all the houseboats in Aleppey.Welcome Drink - Tender coconut or lemon juice or fruit juice.Lunch - Veg – Sambar, Aviyal, Thoran, veg fry, salad, curd, pickle, pappad etcNon veg – Karimeen Fish Fry 1 each pieceEvening - Coffee / Tea and snacks. Mainly banana fry as snack.Dinner - Chicken Curry, white rice, Chapati, Cauliflower Manchurian.Veg – Dal Fry and mix veg kurma or Paneer with mutter or Alu.B/F - Dosa or Iddly with Chutney and sambar with coffee or tea.Though this is a common menu followed by the houseboat operators, you can always request for some changes or add extra food with additional costs. Just for example – Keralite use boiled rice and coconut oil which may not suitable for those from outside Kerala. In this case you can request them to use sunflower oil and basmati rice instead of big boiled rice. When a Luxury houseboat is booked especially from big operators like Spice Route, Blue Jelly, Lakes and Lagoon, Lake View houseboat, they have a different menu followed. You can always ask for a menu list before confirming the booking.Kerala Sadya Kerala Sadya is a grand lunch or dinner served on special occasions like Hindu marriage, Onam etc. This is being served in banana leaf and its pure veg. On special requests this Kerala sadya is available in Houseboat with extra costs.Above is a washroom in a luxury houseboatWhat is a Private Houseboat and Sharing Houseboat?Most of the guests book a houseboat for themselves ie a private boat for their stay and backwater trip. Since houseboat stay is very expensive compare to hotel stay and the fact that availability is much less than requirement, some of the houseboat operators who have more than 3 or 4 rooms in a single boat start giving on sharing with other guests. That means, if a 4 or 5 bed room houseboat is given as sharing basis, each couple will get separate rooms with attached bathroom in one houseboat. They can share common lobby, dining area, top floor, sun deck etc, this is called a sharing houseboat.There is considerable reduction in prices of sharing houseboat than private houseboat. For example a private single houseboat is Rs 7000 or Rs 8000 where as you will get a sharing boat for Rs 3500 onwards. Though there is considerable price saving in case of sharing houseboats, it creates more problems than comfort.Main problems about sharing boats are below :Most of the sharing houseboats have more than 3 rooms in one boat. That means, three or four different couple, who does not know each other, is going to stay in one boat.Lobby in the houseboat is the main area where guests used to sit and have relaxing sightseeing. Most of the houseboats dining table is also placed in the lobby. In this case, one lobby and dining table is being shared by unknown three different couples. Naturally there will be a problem since three unknown couples sharing a common dining table.Proper check in is a problem. Suppose one couple is staying in Alleppey and he is ready for check in at 12 P.M, but other one couple is coming from Kovalam and reaching at 13:00 Hrs only. In this case the boat start at 12 P.M, cruise for 40 mins and then come back to jetty to receive the guest at 13:00 Hrs. In case the third couple is coming from Munnar and he got delayed and reaching only at 15:00 Hrs, then either the boat need to wait till 15:00 Hrs or make some sightseeing and come back to jetty to receive other couple. The ultimate result is loss of sightseeing and visiting good places for which you are paying the money.If someone wants to have an early check out, the boat needs to be placed where road access is there. Normally a boat start moving and having sightseeing in different canals and stay overnight in a village area and come back to main land for check out.Security problems. Since these different couples joining together for an overnight stay, in case of any theft or any other problem faced by the guests, the boat staff may not be able to interfere.Always veg food will be a problem. Do not spoil your enjoyment or vacation against a few thousand rupees. An extra bed cost Rs 1000.· In the above case, 1 room and 2 extra beds – the total cost will go up by Rs 10000. Normal Check in for an overnight houseboat trip is at 12pm or 1130am. It used to stop for an hour lunch and then finally halting at 1730hrs or 1800hrs (depend on the operator). When compare the above, Day trip is always expensive as one need to pay extra money to hotel also to stay for an overnight in Aleppey.Cheapest Houseboat in KeralaThere is no such houseboat called cheapest houseboats in Kerala. To operate a houseboat it needs huge expense like diesel, petrol for generator, salary and allowance for three staff on board, food for the staff & guest etc. A houseboat needs an annual maintenance of minimum 1.5 lakhs depend on the size of the boat. Therefore, if any tour agency offering a cheapest houseboat, or claim to have “best rate”, the guest should know that he will be compromising on the below.1. Cruise by houseboat. The boat operators used to drive the boat very slowly to reduce the diesel consumption. It does really affect the cruise route and sightseeing.2. It stops for more than 2hrs in the pretext of lunch break.3. No filtered water is being provided in the boat. Except cooking, water for all other purpose is being used from the lake or canal itself.4. It stops some unauthorized place to take power for the boat.5. Qualities of bed sheets, pillow, maintenance of boat etc are all compromised.6. No quilt with bed covers in bed room. Just one blanket is being provided for repeated guests.7. No toiletries provided in the washroom.8. Library Entrance have a Sensor equipped Automatic Gate.Each Floor Has a Washroom And a Water Cooler.Issuing and Returning Books has been hassle Free with the help of a Fully Digitalised scanner.The Ground floor is for general reading and periodicals.There are Desktop Computers for browsing Internet And Reading.Hardcopies of Novels,Shirt Stories and Biographies are also Available.Middle Floor is for Medical and Nursing Books.It also have a Conference Room for practicing Presentations, Discussion Room and a Room Dedicated for Research Related Stuff.The Top floor houses the e-library, Individual Reading area and Computer Section. An open air amphitheatre adjoins the auditorium for open- air events.Auditorium have Centralized AC.The auditorium is equipped with synchronized sound and lighting system.It has Separate Green rooms.6.NURSING COLLEGESimilar to Medical College FacilitiesThere is Separate Buliding for Nursing College.7.CANTEEN,MESS AND STALLSThere are 2 Functional Nescafe Stalls and one More Planned Near Residential Area.Nescafe near Hospital Works 24*7 and the one Near T Point (Nursing College) works 9am to 11 pm.RDA Canteen provides Quality Food at Reasonable Rates,It is located inside the Hospital. It is Open till Around 2 amEach Department in the Medical College has its Own Pantry and Recreational areas.There are 3 Mess Facilities available.Separate Mess for Boys and Girls.Institutional Mess(2)It is Very Good and Clean in my Personal Opinion,still as we Eat daily from there we get Bored.They Clean the Entire Mess after Each Meal. Anyway it's way better than Any Normal Government Institution!It serves all Sorts of Dish Atleast Once a Week. Myself a Keralite loves Masala Dosa Which is Usually prepared on Friday Nights.Most of the Famous Regional Dishes are Provided.We have Dedicated Non Veg ,Paneer,Ice Cream,Noodles and Pasta Days.Milk and cardamom Tea is Provided in Morning and Evening,they keep Coffee powder so that We can Make Our Own Cofee too.Students Cooperative MessIt's a New Intiative of SAAB(Students Association)It's Almost Similar to the Institutional Mess,but it's by the Students For the Students.We are also Free to Order outside food. Zomato and Swiggy deliver Food at Hostel Doorsteps.There at Tiffins Facilities Available too. But it's Like Our School days, CBSE syllabus is same in all Schools,but Education from few Schools are Highly Reputed. So,when the Course is same,the Reputation of the College Plays a Key Role.The students of AIIMS are known as AIIMSonians.Best No. Of Cadavers Per BatchCadavers are an Important part of studying Gross Anatomy,thus plays a major role in forming a Good Base in MBBS.AIIMS Bhopal provide 8 Cadavers per Batch for Dissection and 2–3 Extra Cadavers for Surface Marking. i.e 12–13 Students will get One Cadaver.At AIIMS Bhopal Students are allowed to dissect Cadavers ,which will help gain more experience. It is much better than studying from predissected Cadavers.There are No post MBBS Service Bonds.Due to Intelligent Peers and Seniors we end up learning atleast a Step further than we might in a Normal Government Medical College.Histology Labs provide one Microscope for Two Students.Hematology Labs also provide one Apparatus for Two Students(Lab Partners).There are Integrated Classes for First month after Joining. Later on we were shown Clinical Cases such as Varicose Vein(Around November).Seminars are Conducted from 1st semester onwards.First Seminar was done on 9th Nov 2019. Students have to Independently prepare PowerPoint Presentations and Explain it infront of Professors and Batchmates.Classes are held from Monday to Friday and Saturday Being a Half Day(9am to 11am).Timings8:30am to 4:30pm ,(Lunch Break 1pm-2pm) so you get Ample time to Study and Pursue your Hobbies as well.This also help us to keep a Balance between Studies and Co curricular ActivitiesFirst Seminar of our Batch:-Anatomy Classes:-After MBBS2 Batchs have passed out of our College with Flying Colours.Seniors have performed Well off this year in AIIMS PG as Well.The AIIMSonian Tag is much Respected both in India and Outside India.FEESThe Whole 5.5 Years MBBS Course Will only Cost You 5856 Rs .
