PDF Editor FAQ

Why are Indian H-1B employees willing to suffer the uncertainty in visa stamping/legal status and job in the USA rather than working in India?

I will try to present both sides of the coin here. Hope you find what you're looking for.In Favor of H1B and Life in the USMoney is Secondary, not every Indian makes 6 figures in the US, so it cant be the only reason. The major reason is FREEDOM or CHOICE or in Hindi “SUKUN” to do whatever you want, no one judges you in the US , whereas you are constantly judged in India right from the clothes you wear to what you earn/eat etc etc . People respect your privacy. Safety for Women, equal rights. No social pressure , no jealous relatives, no doing old outdated things because its “tradition”. The Work-Life balance is far better in the US as compared to the constant bullying and “i own you attitude” in India . Great lifestyle, no pollution, no traffic, organic food are added bonus. You do miss your family but the peace of mind you get in the US ultimately lets you thrive mentally. Also, you get to visit India once a year or once every 2 years and you appreciate the country a lot more than someone who lives there. You appreciate seeing friends, family, enjoy eating good food. People are genuinely happy to see you once a year as opposed to “being sick and tired” to see you everyday. The Trick for such people is to get the best of both worlds by visiting India every year or couple of years and keeping in touch, while at the same time living a much superior daily healthy life in the US.Against H1B and Life in USNow to the MOST IMPORTANT POINT , all the arguments above are fine if you're working and earning in the US and are HAPPY. If you or your spouse are on H4 Visa you need to get the hell out of the USA asap. There is no future for h4 visa holders in the US and the mental stress that comes with it is not worth it. Trust me, find another country Canada, Australia, UK to name a few or move back to India. An idle mind is a devils workshop and thats what happens when you're on h4 visa in the US. Do not put yourself or your spouse thru the immense mental struggle of not being able to work while on H4 Visa. Your mental health and satisfaction is extremely important than $$$ one of you earns. The more simpler answer about the debate is If you and your spouse are happy and wanna be an “Employee” for the rest of your life stay in the US, if you wanna start a business or be an Entrepreneur , no better place in the World right now to do that than in India, where Internet is finally becoming a household phenomenon and the odds are heavily stacked in the favor of the Entrepreneur.I am writing this final argument while i pack my bags for one last time in the US and move back to India, where i can start my own venture and my spouse can start fresh as well.To all Fellow Indians who are working and happy in the US, Keep Living the dream, no one should force you to relinquish your comfort, only you can decide your future no Quora answer should do that. ALL THE BESTTo all Indians who wanna be Entrepreneurs out there who are not happy working in the US, say no to H1b, say yes to Financial and mental FREEDOM. Take a leap of faith and you'll def land on your feet . ALL THE BEST.

How do South Asian women on the H4 visa in the U.S. describe their mental health?

Living dead. Alive and going through the motions of life but dead on the inside. Years of being treated as sub par individuals who are unworthy of a career or identity does that to us. Add to that the constant tension and uncertainty surrounding the spouse’s visa and you have a recipe for a mental breakdown. It feels like we are constantly holding our breath and waiting for some or the other decision from the government. I understand the concept of “temporary” but the temporary stay here is far from peaceful. Life seems to be a constant struggle to climb out from the pit of depression and despair and find meaning and purpose. I have a renewed respect for freedom and for the sacrifices that so many women make to keep their families together.

My husband and I have been living in the US on a work visa for 4 years now. He is on an H1B and I am on an H4 visa. His employer offered to apply for the green card for us. We are not sure if we want to stay in the US or go back to India though. What should we do?

I am in a similar situation. For long I was thinking about pros and cons, other alternatives options etc... After 8 years, now I reached a conclusion. It is not worth spending beautify days in our life in the middle of great uncertainty. Life in H1B, is like life in Hell. There is no guarantee in this kind of life, cannot travel freely, cannot do simple things like buying home, buying car without worrying about our status. It is a terrible feeling. Since I have gone through all this, I can feel your pain.A pain of being shackled, a hurdle we can blame only on ourselves. It will sure take toll on your mental as well as physical health.Considering all that, my advice you to try of alternatives that offer better quality of life. Canada or Australia. Before ending I would like to remind you one thing, US is the best. In terms of job opportunities, growth opportunities, no other place can match the power of America. So even if you make a decision to move out of US. There should be a plan to move back after you gain Canadian or Australian citizenship. Since you already have I-140, things will be much easier for you.All the best for your future plans.
