A 1988 Diary!!My family recently moved in a new apartment. I found this diary while unpacking one of the book cartons.I’ve always been fond of diaries, especially the old ones. It's quite odd though, for a 9th grader to carry diaries, but it feels pretty cool.It's just like a normal diary.It has a cover…which (accidentally) tore off, and looks like this nowAfter this happened, I had to use the diary without the cover. But it didn't really look good, so I decided to draw somethingBut as soon as I opened it, I realised that I drew it on the wrong side. So now the good looking cover was on the back and the ‘lol’ was in the front, that to, upside down. I thought it wouldn’t look good, so I drew an eye on top of it and now it looks something like this:The first few pages of the diary consist of a 1988 Planner, a Personal Memoranda, Health record, World cities and their times, STD codes, Lists of Star Hotels in different cities of India, Weight & Measurement, Calenders of the year 1987, 1988, 1989, a half calender of 1990 and a list of all the Indian Festivals and their dates.I usually take it to school and use it for taking notes. When I get bored, like every other human being on this Earth (I guess), I start drawing random pictures. The most often appearing drawings would be of the ‘eyes’ because I absolutely love drawing them.It's first page has this date written on it:The last two pages have a 20th century calendar:A lot of people may think that it's weird to use a diary in the digital age, but I have my reasons.We are not allowed to use phones or laptops in class.The feeling of greatness you get while holding this diary is beyond beautiful.It has a strange rusty smell in it.It's quite convenient.Everyone finds it cool!!All of my friends were amazed at my possession of a 1988 diary. They still find it quite amazing.I’ve seen a lot of people look at it from a distance and think it's a book. Some ask me, some don't.I feel very comfortable and confident going to a class with a diary. I’ve had several diaries over the years. Each of a different year like 1993, 1973, 2015, and even new ones of 2019.To sum it all up, I don't think anyone of my age would carry/carries a diary of the year 1988.(EDIT- Thanks for all the upvotes! Nope. I can spot a phony lawyer a mile away.My first job after I graduated from law school was as a law clerk to a federal trial judge. For four years, my primary job duty was to review all of the written documents that had been filed in connection with pending litigation — pleadings, motions, etc. — to summarize the parties’ arguments in a memorandum to the judge, and to recommend a disposition.I have read thousands of motions along with their supporting memoranda. Most of these documents were drafted by attorneys. Some of them were drafted by unrepresented parties. When a motion hit my desk, I never bothered to check in advance whether the person who wrote it was an attorney or an unrepresented party. I never had to. The legal memoranda written by unrepresented parties were so glaringly different from the ones written by trained attorneys that I usually caught them by the time I had finished reading the first paragraph. I can’t recall a single instance when an unrepresented party escaped my notice for more than a page or two.In four years, I made only one mistake. I do recall one case in which I mistook a remarkably incompetent attorney for a pro se plaintiff. I never made a mistake in the opposite direction.Also, in the United States it’s incredibly easy to find out whether someone is actually admitted to the practice of law or not. All you have to do is go to the state bar association’s website and type in the person’s name.
