And as it is explained to me is in part due to some press or media that publish lists of schools being favorite party schools or of job statistics. Everyone would get As and believe it or not. There is usually only one semester worth of material you can teach and it is very difficult to come up with questions that everyone would fail or 90 percent of the class would fail to discern between an A+ or A or A- since students really care apparently for whatever reason whether they gave an A+ or A even if they are the same grade point value of 4.0 which I can never understand cause most employers don’t even look at your transcript except to find whether you have the requisite minimum of a MD or PhD or JD before employing you. If at most, they give you it a 30 second glance. It is my experience that a high GPA causes more trouble than good due to jealousy or employer expectations that you are a perfectionist or hard worker and you set the bar high for yourself. Conventional wisdom is if you do not want to be a target, do not deviate from the norm.Because believe or not is that after spending a half semester with you. Professors kind of know who the top students are and think about that when designing the exam to see what kind of question this student asks and is mostly likely not to get correct when coming up with the handful of questions to discern whether you should get an A+ or A or A- since it is a pain in the ass such that I know some professors who have a personal policy just not to award anything higher than an A- or B+. Because face it. An A+ is described on the back of a transcript as “Excellent or Exceptional” and an A is described as “Excellent or Very Good” and a B is usually a “Above Average or Good” and a C is “Normal/Pass”. By definition of Exceptional or Excellent. It means this person is beyond Summa Cvm Laude. The one branch of the US government called the INS describes Exceptional as “having a nobel prize or olympic medal” international acclaimed award”. That is given to 4 + 1 people every year. The 4 nobel prizes + 1 pseudo Bank of Sweden 1 Million dollar prize in economics in memory of Alfred Nobel. I have yet to meet anyone of that caliber (although I have seen one from a distance).Hence, I doubt that the USCIS actually employs anybody of that caliber unless Donald Trump is under the General Service Payscale and not the Executive Service payscale. To best convince me or another person that you are of that caliber. It is probably easiest to use the follow definitions: Employment-Based Immigration: First Preference EB-1 as I really don’t know what a person of that criteria is because I neevr met one and don’t believe I am fit to judge either. Or you could call Simon Cadwell and he should know the answer or call Governor Jeb Bush as one person had suggested.The students like multiple choice, which is my favorite cause those do not have to be graded by me but by a scantron. By the way, it is not only an embarassment to come up with questions and have a wrong answer on it (that some times happens even for answers and questions that is provided by the textbook or publisher). Not only do you have publishers sending you so many sample textbooks because they benefit when you change textbooks that the bookstore cannot resell and have to buy new ones. Since most of the top five publishers own all the rights to textbooks (i.e. McGraw Hills, Pearson, etc) and it is pretty much a JIT printing system. They don’t want to sell too many and saturate the used book market nor do they want to sell too few. They can easily just get a revision ordered and re-arrange the chapters without making any edition based on whatever comments they receive that they believe is a better presentation of the material and justify the revision to people they don’t have to worry about like their shareholders or the poor author who has to make the senseless revisions.Most students are sufficiently exam phobiatic that they would not chance it and buy the right textbook even if they can find the corresponding question in an old revision of the textbook because some professors just assign homework by writing down the question number and page or they are too lazy or a cat or dog ate their old textbook or whatever.The bottom line is to come up with a multiple choice question that discerns between whether you get a A+ or an A which is very easy for me if you dont score a 100 on my exam with everyone else cause that is simply A = [93 < A <= 96.9) and (96.9 < A+ <= 100] . If you are one of the infinitely small number of people that get > 100 percent or [96.9] than I screwed up bad as that is not supposed to happen by some limiting principle of number theory or percentiles. It is ALOT of work. Because assume you know every principle and I combine three questions into one and that these are 4 choices Multiple Choice where you have a chance of getting it right at 0.25 per random guessing. I have to account for 1 - Prob( all three parts to the question were right by chance or knowledge (.25)(.25)(.25) or you guesssed and got it right (.20)] and the last part keeps adding probabilities that the last few questions randomized into an exam makes it very difficult to design questions.That being said. Questions are not easy to prepare without first having tested it on a general representative sample like the ETS who does the SAT or other exams do with sample sections for subsequent test because it is easy to use terms like DMV or Secretary of State that people in FL or Texas refer to as the Ranger Post for Driver License or other regional slangs like bodega and non-New Yorkers would not know what is means and everyone may get the question wrong due to a mental hang up over what the term is. One example that I remember is when someone decided to use the term Octogenerian in a probabilities test that I though had something to do with an 8 or some number. I spent half an hour looking for the definition.So yea.. It is way easier to give all A+ but that has also gotten lots of complaints why students have work harder and seem like the most active participant and gotten the same grade as someone who they feel do not even show up to class or whatever.For non multiple choice questions. I have gotten a 10 page answer to one simple one sentence question! FRONT AND BACK.
