Are you very sure that Airbus A380’s do not land at IGI Airport?Not exactly. Now, I shall clear this doubt step by step.All airports have a runway that is primarily used by aircraft for take off and landing operations. All runways have identifications through letters and numbering that is visible from the cockpit prior to landing.I shall start with an example.Runway 07R at Frankfurt Airport just prior to touchdown.The number gives the magnetic heading (direction) of this runway with respect to the magnetic north pole of Earth expressed in deca-degrees (just multiply this number by 10).Thus, in this case 07 means 70 degrees with respect to the magnetic north pole. This airport has two parallel runways and thus the letter R indicates the runway located on the right side. Thus, the one to the left shall have a designation of 07L.Runways are always straight (at least till date) and any straight line measures 180 degrees. Thus, the above runway when viewed from the other side shall have the designation 25L and 25R. Therefore, the runway identification for Frankfurt airport is (07L/25R) and (25L/07R).The Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi has three runways (not parallel) viz. (09/27), (10/28) and (11/29).(09/27) at extreme top of this image - measuring 2,813 m × 45 m is exclusively used by smaller aircraft such as Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and small turbofan engine aircraft. These mostly belong to low cost carriers such as Spicejet, Indigo and GoAir.(10/28) middle of this image - measuring 3,810 m × 46 m is also used by the above aircraft. In addition to these, this runway is also used by other larger aircrafts such as Airbus A330, Airbus A340, Boeing 747, Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliners. It is a Code “E” runway (I shall refer to this later).(11/29) extreme bottom of this image - the only Code “F” rated runway (I shall refer to this later) measuring 4,430 m × 60 m is the newly built runway of this airport. It has the highest category of Instrument Landing System (ILS) viz. CAT IIIB on both sides .In brief, ILS is basically a navigation aid that are used to guide aircraft to a runway prior to touchdown. They have various categories viz. CAT I, CAT II and CAT III (IIIA, IIIB and IIIC). Each of these categories have different grades of approach lighting systems to guide aircraft to the runway center line.Runway 10, Runway 27 have CAT I ILS while Runway 28 has CAT III ILS.Now comes the question.The Boeing 747 and the most recent Airbus A380 are huge aircraft. With the colossal size, the braking distance required to bring a large aircraft to a complete halt is large. Not only that, dead load (cargo , fuel load) and live load (passengers) also add to the weight and contribute for a larger braking distance.For a 747, this distance is 3000 m at least. For the Airbus A380, it is even more.Runway (10/28) can handle the touchdown of Boeing 747. This is a Code E runway. A Code E runway is that runway which can handle operations of aircraft having a wingspan greater than 52 meters but less than 65 meters.However, Airbus A380 exclusively uses Code F runway. The Code F aircraft require runways to be at least 60m wide with another 7.5m of shoulders on each side i.e. 75m wide. There should also be no obstruction for a minimum 77.5m on either side of the runway. Also, all Code F runways can handle operations of aircraft with wingspan more than 65 meters but less than 80 meters.Thus, Airbus A380 exclusively uses Runway (11/29) for landing and take off. Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines use Airbus A380 operations to New Delhi.I HOPE THIS HAS CLEARED YOUR DOUBT !!!!!

Yes! I did! There’s three ways you can do it.Earning your spot!! If you work hard enough to make it to state and you work even harder, you can make it to ICDC!Being a state officer. There’s a test you can take prior to the district competition about deca in general and about the current officer team. If you pass with a 70, you’re qualified to run. However, only 4 people can run from each chapter. If you end up being elected as a state officer, you can go to icdcWorkshops. I’m not sure exactly how it works, but chapters can be rewarded with extra spots for deca members to attend icdc by doing chapter projects. People who are awarded these spots attend workshops at icdc. That’s what I did my first year!
