However, an EdD still requires a dissertation; the difference between a PhD and EdD is that a PhD is supposed to be more theoretical, while the EdD is more of a professional degree.An EdD is probably slightly lower than a PhD, but it really depends on the school. If you look at schools that offer both a PhD and EdD in the Education department, the PhD is probably more rigorous.A JD isn’t that difficult to obtain. I mean, a Harvard or Yale one probably is, but there are a lot of law schools out there that have less than rigorous admission standards. So on the face of things, I’d say that an EdD is better than a JD.Insisting on being called Doctor outside of academic contexts is a little pretentious. Sebastian Gorka tried it. Newt Gingrich really didn’t (although his books on Amazon say Dr. Newt Gingrich). But if a lawyer with a JD insisted it, it would be WAY more pretentious than an EdD insisting on it.I guess in terms of credentialing, Jill Biden can be called the most educated. I’d still say that Lou Henry Hoover was probably the most learned, although hers wasn’t all obtained from formal schooling. Hoover got her degree in teaching from what is now San Jose State, then got a degree in geology from Stanford. Then she learned Latin, Chinese, Spanish, German, Italian and French. Along with her husband Herbert, she translated De Re Metallica from Latin into English — a treatise on mining written in the middle ages — and it’s still the standard English translation to this day. (Lou actually could speak these languages: she and Herbert would speak in Mandarin when they didn’t want the press to know what they were saying; compare to Melania Trump who probably doesn’t actually speak very good German).
