CBP will almost always ask questions at the immigration and customs checkpoint, but what those questions are may vary considerably from time to time. Form 6059B does reduce this somewhat, because it “pre-asks” most of the questions related to customs (which have to be asked of every traveler).If you’re a citizen or lawful permanent resident and nothing in your travel history or Form 6059B raises any flags, you may well get in without having to answer any questions. But if you are entering in any other status, your Form 6059B has any “unusual” answers on it (“You checked the box that says you have snails. Jamon is ham, is it not? When entering the US, you are required to declare all meat and animal products on your customs declaration form 6059B (the blue form you’ll be given on your flight before you arrive). Since jamon is cured, Customs may allow it in. I’d advise transporting it in a sealed container of some sort though. A slab of jamon presented to Customs in the same way it is in shops in Spain (hanging on a hook in a mesh sack), may get it rejected. You DO need to declare it though. Not declaring it will get you a fine.
