Hello, from Chicago. I see some people claiming that the 90s wasn’t great for British music! The 90s was pretty huge. Just look up Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Supergrass. There were so many great British bands in the 90s! The early 2000s sucked. Bland autotuned stuff, with loads of American imports. Very little originality. The latter half of the 2000s kick started what I think will one day be seen as a Golden Age of British music. Like someone else said, we saw the rise of original artists such as Lily Allen, Adele (I think she only made it big in the US recently?), amongst others.English Singer-songwriters.Now United Kingdom have some amazing and original singer-songwriters such as Example, Ed Sheeran, Pixie Lott, Jessie J, Sting, Mark Ronson, Billy Idol, Olivia Newton-John, Charli XCX, Elton John, Harry Styles, Ellie Goulding, Joan Armatrading, Chris Martin, Adele Emily Sandé, Rizzle Kicks (an up and coming duo, just hit the big time).Britain has amazing music and, if you’re British, you will probably agree that British music is far superior to American. However, I suspect that an American would hold the opposite view. It’s all about local tastes. No nation’s music is really better than any others. I think you’ll also find that it can sometimes be difficult to make a fair judgement. When both countries are producing top notch music, it’s quite likely that their own music will dominate the charts, respectively. That’d make it less likely for British to hear all of the great music that the other has to offer. For example, British music wasn’t up to scratch in the early 2000s and American music was easily superior. That meant that it dominated the charts in the UK.Another point of note. America produced Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. They are icons.Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.Probably the closest to icons that Britain produced was The Beatles and Queen and Freddy Mercury. And the Spice Girls? (LOL? I don’t know... They were huge here). I suppose British they’ve got Amy Winehouse and the Rolling Stones too. But none of them are as huge as Elvis or MJ. Somehow connections are made to the Pitchfork Media crowd and other influential hangers-on in the music industry. Perhaps some tie-in/contest with Jersey Shore, American Idol, or whatever the latest flavor of the month is will get Ping more exposure.Participation on Ping could be tied to financial incentives on the store; there's currently no incentive to give Ping much attention.Maybe have commenting on Ping becomes a required feature to successfully download anything.from the iTunes store.Or, perhaps tie a comment on Ping to getting $1 off (or more) of an album cost.
