PDF Editor FAQ

Who have qualified for the UPSC 2016 Interview.Give us your background, preparation methodology and some insights?

Hello :)This was my first attempt and luckily i have managed to qualify for the Personality test. Trust me...nobody is more surprised than me. I'll tell you why......Background: B.tech in Biomedical Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology,Tamil Nadu. Graduated in May 2015. Average CGPA. Nothing significant in extra-curricular activity. When did i start ?The very next day after i graduated. At this point my average understanding of humanities based subjects were quite minimal. No regular habits to read newspaper. For Economics : Ch.24 of Ramesh Singh. You'll be surprised how much useful content it has which will be needed for both pre and mains. Read that chapter as if you were reading a love letter (with a happy ending of course :p ).There is something called Back-end reading....all you have to do is focus on the current scenarios of finance and budget...economic survey is helpful here..very helpful...pick up terminologies you don't know well....and understand it well...you can use Ramesh singh or Mrunal.org for this. Saves time. And you can see progress easily. This will motivate you.For Polity : take laxmikanth.....study the first half of the book religiously and the second part like a story. Once you have a basic understanding...start practicing mock questions...Polity is a section where accuracy is very very important for prelims. So fundamentals are important. For geography : Read 11th std. NCERT....both part 1 and 2....twice...thrice if you can. You'll enjoy it. Its more than enough for pre. But don't forget the atlas. I used Oxford school atlas. Stare at it at least half hour a day and your subconscious mind will be doing the job for you. Its really really important that you use atlas.History : Bipan Chandra....read it like a story first...took me 2 days....make notes...chronologically...only the events...make mind maps for the reason of those events. Now read it again...see if the events are making sense. See if you are feeling angry or sympathetic towards some people :p Yes ? Great. Keep going. Find something new ? I bet you would. Now read it again. This time you'll be gliding through the events as you're living it originally. Good job.Art & Culture : i cant stress enough the importance of this topic. I made my own notes for this. Used CCRT website and google extensively. A little practice on mock papers too. You'll be surprised how much we do not know about our culture.Environment and Biodiversity : Started studying online. Bad idea. This is an important area. So i switched to Majid Hussain at the last moment. Skimmed through it. End result was not satisfactory so my advice : don't leave this for the last.Current affairs : The Hindu, Business line, Yojana. That's it. Everyday with morning tea....gorge the newspaper like a hungry caveperson. (literally not figuratively) make notes if you want for revision. But i didn't. So...your choice. But never skip the paper.CSAT paper II : Practiced questions from TMH CSAT II manual. Its enough.Apart from this ^^India 2015...you take 2016 one now....its helpful.Visit Vikaspedia.in ....its a one stop website for all the policies and initiatives by the govt. It covers all the major sectors ( agri, social, e-gov, fiscal, health, education etc )PRS legislative website for bills and amendments...they are really nice.IDSA website for IR...i used it since my optional was PSIR but try it anyway....very comprehensive in nature.for mains :Practice writing. keep writing for those 2.5 months. Everyday. Everytime. Join a decent test series if you can or you can do it at home too. During my preparation i never left room. For GS1,2 and 3....your fundamentals and the current affairs will be very important. UPSC will ask mainly things which are going around for past 8-10 months. So always keep reading paper...formulate opinions...dont be radical towards the problems...analyse the situation....voila...you have enough ammunition to bombard normandy.GS 4 is ethics....my hands were hurting so much that i was almost going to cry(True story). Anyways...There are standard books in the market but they are not absolutely important. Visit mrunal.org...have a look at some case studies. Solve decision making section of Tata McGraw Hill CSAT paper II manual. Very helpful. For optionals. (PSIR)...Op Gauba...Ignou MA pol sci material. ND arora. IDSA for IR. But mostly i practiced previous papers only.Language paper: For English i did not prepare anything at all as i have always been an avid reader of English literature. Thanks to VITs library , i had plenty to read. For Hindi...read a standard Hindi Vyakaran and Composition book. Plenty of publishers. I used Saraswati publication. But practice writing too.Essay : The more you read, the better will be your chances in this paper. Read about ongoing issues in our country and the world too. Learn some good phrases related to those issues from internet. While you are in the toilet...get all philosophical and think about these issues. Be a part of the solution. Easy enough right ?? ;)Things you must consider :1) Every aspirant in this exam has a different strategy. So make your own too. You'll have better chances than the person next to you.2) Study like a fox. Always practice previous years papers. You'll have a better idea on what to study and what to skip. UPSC doesn't want donkeys for bureaucracy.3) Important thing is to never lose motivation. You have to be consistent while preparing. Have minimal distractions. I shunned my social life for 10 months. I am not recommending anything like that. But just keep the distractions minimum. Buy if you do get distracted....forgive yourself and get back to studies.4) Sleep like a king. 8-10 hours is enough. I personally sleep atleast 10 hours a days. But that's me. Also, before you start studying...do 10 sit-ups...you'll have enough endorphins to finish the days paper thoroughly. So whenever you take breaks...take endorphins...you'll be more motivated than before.5)Water. Drink plenty of it. Always. Everyday. At the end i would like you to know that the way i prepared was quite selective for subjects like economics and geography which cost me a little in GS mains. So If you have enough time on your hand. Give a good amount of time to read standard books at least twice or thrice.I gave a big emphasis on writing while preparing....which i guess complimented my weak fundamentals in some questions. I wrote at least 3000 letters on an average day between pre and mains which i think made a lot of difference. It built my confidence.Anyhow..i hope my answer helped. Good luck my friend.See you in Mussoorie ;)

How do I get my 1040 form from 2015?

If you are trying to get a copy of the Form 1040 that you filed for the tax year 2015 go to IRS dot Gov (IRS.GOV), find the “Help" icon and go to “Get A Tax Transcript”.

Why can't Arvind Kejriwal rather become a union minister or help the Central government than adding to the chaos with another party?

This is well beyond his reach, capabilities as well as intention.Do you think Arvind Kejriwal has any intention of co-operating with the Union Government? No, he doesnt. Right from the day he took the CMs seat, he has been cursing the Union Government for each and every problem his Government encounters. He has Prime Ministerial ambitions. Overwhelmed by the success of his newbie Party in 2013 Delhi Elections, he played this gamble of trying his hands over the PM Chair. He knew that Manmohan Singh is now a Lame duck and opposition to him wouldnt be of any effect. Opposing Modi would certainly give him brownie points. His plan backfired. He had to be content over 4, out of the 400+ odd seats his party contested. He won with a brute majority in 2015 and became the CM again. But his anarchist brain wouldnt let him be in peace with the Lt Gov, naturally inviting chaos. Whats more, he even blamed this chaos on the Union.Ok, considering that he has been an IRS Officer in the past ( with a very distinguished career of long leaves and resignations), let us say that he can handle a Portfolio as the Union Govt. So, which Portfolio should it be? How about giving him the same or similar Portfolio he handles in the Delhi Govt? Fair enough? But, problem is, he doesnt hold any Portfolio in the Delhi Government. He is just a CM, without any portfolio. Why should a man who is so inexperienced, notorious as both IRS officer and CM, without any responsibility on himself be even considered to be a Union Minister? He just deserves one Portfolio which he has been handling from even before Modi became the PM, i.e. Ministry of Anti Modi Affairs. I must also add though that, this ministry is in a really bad shape.Do not expect this man to do anything in co-operation with the Union. If really Anti Corruption was in his agenda, he would have rather supported demonetisation and suggested solutions for the Cash crunch and the chaotic situation, than opposing just for the sake of it and demanding a Rollback. He is a shrewd person, with nothing but the hunger for power as his motivation for the functioning of the Ministry he handles.
