PDF Editor FAQ

Is Disney oversaturating the movie market when it comes to special effects films?

No.Sadly, the appetite for movies with beautiful people, big explosions, and very little plot seems insatiable. In a way, I’m glad that Disney is doing this. And Marvel and DC and the rest. Please keep making nearly indistinguishable drivel with rugged men, gorgeous women, incredible special effects, and banal, insipid, and simplistic plots. This has happened before. When it did, there was a backlash. People started demanding more from their movies. During the 1950s, lots and lots of simple, easy, mindless movies got made. People got tired of it after a while. And then they made 2001, and The Godfather, and Apocalypse Now, and The Shining, and Taxi Driver, and Jaws and Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown. Then the 80s happened, and we kinda went back into another swing of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” and “Breakfast Club” clones. It was fun for a while. But then Pulp Fiction and Schindler’s List and The Matrix and The Silence of the Lambs and hooray movies with meat again. And now we get a branjillion movies a year that have that glossy, simple CG look that Disney is so good at.Soon. 2025, maybe? The next renaissance.

Santosh Gangwar, a Minister of State in the Minstry of Labour and Employment, has said that in the Northern India, candidates lack required skills and qualifications. What are your views on this?

Well, many answers for this question are like criticisms of journalists, simply looking at the minister's statement politically and passing judgments - both positive and negative and not going deeper. What the minister said is largely true.If the minister’s statement is 100% false - then people would have given data to disprove, if it is 100% true then also people would have given data to prove. Therefore there is some truth in his statement. The truth needs to be understood in depth.Fact 1: There is widespread unemployment across all educational backgroundsFact 2: There are skill-shortage in all the sectors right from unskilled to highly skilledWhat this shows is that there is a gap between education and the market requirements from 'skill-standpoint' for any prospective employee. We seem to be lethargic and not paying attention to the changing market scenario and demands. Proper vocational training (not namesake) should be part of school education. In particular, youngsters are not exploring and using the NSDC - Skill development portal, Apps, Books (e-Pustakalaya), Online training videos, etc.Elders (those who are supposed to do career counseling) are not exploring and understanding what are the things that are there (both courses and jobs) and then guiding the youngsters accordingly.People should look at PMKVY portals and Mobile Apps., enroll, learn and upskill... youngsters seem to be more interested in PUBG, Tinder, and TicToc than these useful Apps.Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)Our skill development ministry is connected with WorldSkills and we have been participating in World skills competitions. Four of our youngsters have won medals in this year at the worldwide meet in Kasan, Russia, 2019.Pic.: Medallists from India (source - WorldSkills)Expecting Government or others to spoon-feed everything is a crime. Unfortunately, many youngsters today are expecting that and they are even ready to be subjugated!.------------------------------------------------------------Demographics of Job seekers:There are 3 Groups of job seekers in India. Group 1 - White-collar job seekers (~20% - College /Professional degrees), Group 2 - Blue-collar job seekers (~50% - Some entry-level education), Group 3 'No collar' job seekers (~20% no education).Group 1 (With Professional education) - Entering into a highly volatile and dynamic job market - Constant upgrading of skills are mandatory. Payscales are getting lower day-by-day. IT /ITES Jobs are disappearing due to multiple factors - Cyclic change, Global slowdown, Competition (Philippines, Vietnam, etc.), Routine jobs are getting automated through AI, etc.Group 3 (With No schooling) - This group depends on odd physical jobs, Monsoons and /or MGNREGA, and political meetings /ralliesGroup 2 (With some Basic education). Majority of Indian youth are in this group and this can be divided into two subgroups:a). With just schooling - 10th pass, 10+2 passStudents who are in this group need to get into ITI and further skill development, if not they would be left with jobs like Drivers and all Hard Labour oriented jobs - need to compete with No collar workers. Majority of this sub-group are from the 14 Lakh State board schools - both Govt. and Private.b). With basic technical training - 10 + ITI (1 or 2 years), 10+3 year diploma.(This group needs to constantly update its skills - ideally once in 2-3 years)The number of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in India as of April 2016 was 13,105. Out of these, the number of Government ITIs was 2293, and of private ITIs was 10812.These basic technical training in institutions are in some respect cut-off from the current realities of the current world. The skills the students learn from the entry-level technical institutions (ITIs, Diploma institutes) could become outdated within the next 5 - 10. Therefore constant upskilling is the norm of the day.Currently the DGET (Directorate General of Employment and Training) is focusing on getting people to enroll into ITIs due to the shortage of Skilled /Semi-skilled manpower as of today - this is just to run the country's existing infrastructure. Tomorrow?... well, things could change drastically. Those who are employed may get skill-upgrade training from their employers, but those who are entering into these training institutions are going to face a changing world in a few years time. Some of the always in-demand jobs (self-employed)ElectricianPlumber - Motor repair, etc.Automobile MechanicAppliances mechanic: AC, Fridge, Washing machine, Gas stove /Chimney, Water filter,...Roof-top Solar installation /maintenance techniciansEven in these jobs, the upskilling is a must…———————————————————Some of the Leading courses in ITIs (job opportunities of 2000-2020)Architectural Assistant - (construction dependant) - need basic computer skills & knowledge of some appsBuilding Assistance / Maintenance - (construction dependant)Draughtsman (Mechanical) - need to be fully into CAD softwareHorticulture - LandscapingLaboratory Assistant (Chemical Plants) - not many jobs are thereMechanic - Medical Electronics - need specialised on-the-job training.Tool And Die Making - CAD is must - 3D printers are going to steal many of these jobsSheet Metal Worker - Construction dependant - Automation is slowly coming into theseMachine /Instrument Mechanic - needs specialised training depending on the machine. The students who are undergoing these courses should also be prepared for the job opportunities from the Year 2020 onwards, this is in addition to today's needs.----------------------------------------Technology development and DisruptionsMany people are ignorant of the Widespread technology changes that are taking place. With a degree of Fault tolerance /Redundancy built into many machines the maintenance needs are coming down day by day - thereby the jobs associated with maintenance are also coming down.Example: Earlier when the fuse burns/ blows one need to change it. Now with Circuit breakers, the need for fuse and also the manpower for replacing is gone forever. With mobile phones, STD Phone booths have gone. Self-driving cars are going to be a reality in the next 10 years and would put pressure on Driver jobs. In future there could be self-cleaning solar panels - just need water sprayers /wipers. Air-less tires are coming - no need for puncture shops. E-Commerce is changing the retail industry landscape. Many disruptive technologies, businesses, and processes, we have witnessed since the Year 2000, and more are on the way. Many such lower-level service industry jobs are slowly disappearing. We need to wake up to this reality. We can't also be protectionist and reject modern stuff, if we do so we will be left behind like how we were left behind during the manufacturing boom in the 70s and 80sSome of the Current /Emerging job opportunities: (Valid till 2030)Rooftop Solar installation /maintenance technicians (one should understand all the current tech.)BLDC motor installation technicians. (If we could replace all the Fan motors in India to BLDC in the next 10 years, we could collectively save 70% of the present electricity consumption for fans. (From 80 /90 Watts fan to 15 /20 Watts fan). Similarly, when lighting also moves to LED in a big way we could have huge energy savings.Mini vertical axis wind turbines (night time power generation with wind speeds as low as 25mph or more)Micro-irrigation installation /maintenance techniciansPersonally I need about 75 Watts of electricity (peak Power) - 20 Watts for my Laptop, 20 Watts for my BLDC fan and 12 Watts for LED bulb (in the night) and 5 Watts for Broadband modem and 5 Watts for charging my mobile. This much energy can easily be generated with a single solar panel and a couple of small vertical axis wind turbines (no need for batteries). This could be the case with many self-employed ITES workers in the future. Some of the Future job opportunities: (2025 onwards)Electric Vehicle mechanic - Scooters, Auto, etc.IoT - sensor installation /maintenance.3D printing servicesCharging stationsGreen Tech /Green biz.Our youth need to be aware of these things…-------------------------------------------A major weakness of our service industriesPeople should note that most of the jobs that are available currently and those going to be created in the future are service jobs. To succeed in service jobs people should be trustworthy, with good workmanship, with communication skills, and with good customer service capabilities. We jumped straight from Agriculture to Service industry, many missed Manufacturing /Distribution, etc. We need to improve our overall "service provider - customer" outlook. When we do get good service we need to pay them well. We, instead are into cost-cutting on services by outsourcing to cheaper and cheaper agencies /individuals. This will lead to bad workmanship and cutting corners from the service providers-------------------------------------------In 10 years time...Many manual /mechanical things are going to be Electronic and this would put pressure on people who are in the skilled man-power category.Non-battery energy storage /energy conversion systems -- Kinetic, Heat, Spring, Compressed air, Flywheel, etc. are going to get commoditized and would change the global energy landscape totally. With respect to cost per watt, the alternative energy generation systems are already on par or lower than conventional fossil fuel-based energy generation systems.Meat is going to be increasingly Lab sourced. This will put cost pressures on growers of animal feed, Agriculture is going to be affected worldwide.Plant fiber-based plastic alternatives are the solution - the cultivation of those specialized plants can become a livelihood for farmers.Pic.: People are queuing for Plant-based Chicken alternative in KFC Atlanta. where huge food supplies got sold in a single day !.-------------------------------------------Finally, everything boils down to...“High population”This not from the point of just feeding people or just housing people, etc. but meeting their current and future aspirations. Everyone wants more than just Roti /Kapda /Makaan - this needs a lot of money. What is the solution… More tax ?, Leaner Government? (again low jobs), More investments - borrow?… We are caught in a vicious cycle. There is no quick-fix. We are heading towards being a middle-income economy. Nothing wrong being a middle-income economy as long as we have decent living standards. Yet, to be a successful middle-income economy we need to control population, else we will slip to being poor economy again. Some people are thinking higher GDP means more jobs - from 2015 to 2018 we had a higher GDP than today - but that didn't result in any big job growth.Getting emotional /angry and changing the ruling party in the state or center is of no use.Do we wake up only at the precipice of an economic meltdown and huge unemployment crisis as we had in the 70s? (or) we are ready to upskill ourselves and sustain - people have to answer this.Elders need to educate the youth on the seriousness of the issues.———————————————Personally I welcome certain thingsAn overheating economy is more dangerous than a slower economy from the point of sustainability.A lower number of car sales - I welcome: less pollution and more usage of public transport. Any yellow number plate vehicle is public transport.Meat alternatives: A better environment and healthy food.Plastic ban: I welcome this due to plant-based alternatives - livelihood for farmersAlternative energy /Green tech: A better environment

How would you rank the threat of China MIC 2025 vs WW2 for USA hegemony? Is MIC 2025 rushed now by the Chinese?

US hegemony is near finished. And it has nothing to do with China. In last decades, US adopted policies that favored billionaires, eg Amazon and Apple pays near 0 taxes, and also engaged in endless wars pushing Tbills and usd printing to its limits. At usd30t Tbills, USG is finding it hard to pay to maintain US Hegemony.MIC 2025 is only a slogan by CG/CCP to mobilise Chinese to work towards a goal. And although it will propel China forward, it is not aimed at US hegemony.
