PDF Editor FAQ

What are liberals tired of hearing?

“Liberal coastal elite” “liberal elite” or some variation of this new conservative buzzword. I find it interesting how conservatives became the authority on what poor people want because, for the first time in years, the white working class voted for Trump and the Republican Party. Now, all of the sudden conservatives are acting as if poor and working class Americans are Republican voters, and that well-off and wealthy Americans are Democratic voters. What is worst is that conservatives (especially Fox News commentators) are acting as if the Democratic Party is the only major party that serves wealthy donors (where did the Koch brothers go? The Mercer family? Sheldon Adelson?).To me, this is both misguided and offensive. The Democratic Party might have lost the white working class in the so-called rustbelt (the poor and working class white people in the Midwest and the South have been solidly Republican for years), but the black and latino working classes are still a solidly Democratic base. However, conservatives are acting as if poor and working class white people are the only poor and working class people that count. Now that poor and working class people are voting Republican, conservatives are all of a sudden experts on what all poor and white working class people want. Conservatives are now lecturing liberals on “the forgotten Americans” and the “liberal coastal elite attitude” (even though many of these conservative commentators are either (1) transplants from “forgotten American” to “coastal liberal elite” cities; or (2) conservative coastal elites born into privilege. But who cares about irony, right?).The Republican Party’s agenda is no less shaped by its wealthy donors than the Democratic Party’s agenda. For instance, take the tax bill. The reason why Republicans irresponsibly rushed through the tax bill this year is because their wealthy donors were threatening to cut them off their payroll if taxes are not brought down by the end of the year. No tax expert in the US believes that what the Republicans did was wise. Tax overhauls have to be carefully studied and evaluated before they’re implemented. You can’t just add last minute scribbles and then pass it as legislation. Now, Republicans aren’t dumb or lacking foresight. They just knew where to put their political capital. They realized that (1) a blue wave was inevitable in 2018; (2) in 2018, they could either leave Congress with millions in their pockets or nothing; and (3) whatever mess the new tax bill creates will be the Democrats’ problem. So, they decided to leave with their pockets filled. Whatever mess the new tax bill will create will fall on the Democrats. In essence, this whole new narrative that conservatives are pushing has no basis in reality. Conservatives are not the spokespersons of the poor and working class. Liberals are not the spokespersons of the poor and working class. The only people who can speak for the poor and working class are the poor and working class themselves. Unfortunately, they don’t have the resources to form lobbying groups or PACs. However, it sounds like they’re starting to become more emboldened now than before. For instance, in Wisconsin, one working class individual is running for Congress…as a Democrat for Paul Ryan’s seat. This is not only a bold move (running against the most powerful Republican in the House), but it shows you that the Democrats haven’t completely lost the white poor and working class. If I was Chairman Perez [Chairman of the DNC], I’d be throwing my money at candidates like Randy Bryce. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t have two degrees from Columbia and Harvard (the Democrats seriously needs to put an end to their east coast elite college bias). It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t have experience in politics (that’s why political advisers exist). American politics has become all about branding and marketing. An elitist like Paul Ryan might find it hard to challenge a member of his district’s community who knows his district’s struggles and pains. Or maybe we’re underestimating Paul Ryan? In any case, Randy Price is the Democrats’ best hope against Paul Ryan.

Why does everyone hate the GOP Tax Plan?

Not that “everyone” is, but there are a lot of reasons to not like it.It was sold as a ‘Middle class tax cut’, but virtually all of the benefits that apply to middle class taxpayers are temporary, while the ones going to corporations and the very wealthy are permanent. When these temporary gimmes expire, the offsetting take-aways (like the loss of some deductions) amount to a middle-class tax increase.A lot of lying went into selling the plan (famously: it won’t help the rich, when obviously it does just that). It helps people who don’t need the help.It does so at the expense of people who will be hurt by this.It increases the debt at a time that would otherwise be perfect (full employment! Market is high! Corporations are sitting on cash!) to pay down the debts we ran up under Bush43 (wars, tax cuts, bailouts) and Obama(recovery). It promises to ’cause growth’ by cutting taxes on the wealthy. We’ve heard this promise before, and we’ve tried this before, and it does not deliver growth in excess of the debt it incurs. It’s not a win-win as advertised, it is a win for the rich at someone else’s expense. It amounts to borrowing from our kids and grandkids, but without their consent. It was done in a way that ensured most of the votes that decided it would be done ignorant of the content, score, and impacts of the bill- the votes were along party lines, there was no deliberation, no legislative process, no opportunity for legislators to hear from their constituents, and no opportunity for individual legislators to evaluate whether or not it’s in the best interests of their constituents. Quite obviously, the only constituency that mattered to the authors of the bill is their donors. All in all, this was an unpopular bill- one that wouldn’t have seen light of day if what most voters want mattered. And the only concessions they made to public concerns mattering at all was the fact that they brazenly lied to tell everyone it will be good for them.

What would you do if, after believing in the Democratic “left progressive movement”, you found out that they were lying to you about GOP Conservative motives, which are to protect the constitution and restore your country’s greatness?

Well! This is…this is an exciting journey you’ve set me upon, Mr. Brocks. This one’s a little bit like a complicated dessert. You have to take it apart piece by piece to really soak in all the flavors. What would you do if…after believing in the Democratic “left progressive movement”,Alright, so let’s evaluate this part of the phrase. The Democrats do not have a ‘left progressive movement’. The Democrats of America are a centrist party, maybe even a little right leaning. There are some leftists in America, and they do support the Democrats, only because the alternative is literally the most conservative FYGM faction in what I believe to be the entire developed world. Possibly including Muslim majority countries. What I am confused about is whether or not this phrase suggests I have already ceased to believe in the movement. I will assume that this takes place shortly after deciding I don’t think poor people ought to be left to die to teach them a lesson about hard work.you find out that they are lying to you about GOP Conservative motives which are to protect the constitution and restore your country’s greatness?Hm. I don’t usually get my information on GOP motives from Democrats, personally.I usually get it from people like Mitch McConnell. You said Mitch McConnell’s motive, as GOP, was to ‘protect the constitution and restore [America]’s greatness.’Unfortunately, his motive, by his own statement, was specifically about returning to power, and only returning to power. But that’s still for the people, right?Enter Representative Chris Collins.Top GOP congressman: My donors told me to pass the Republican tax bill or 'don't ever call me again'Now, the intriguing part here is he did not say ‘constituents’. He says ‘donors’.So Chris Collins’ own stated motives, from his own mouth, are to ensure that his donors continue to give him money.Neither of these are ‘protecting the Constitution’ or ‘restoring America’s greatness’.These are direct quotes. They’re not taken out of context, they’re not spliced, these are your GOP congressmen telling you what their motives are.So, I suppose your answer is,I don’t care if the Democratic party lies to me about the GOP’s motives, because the GOP has told me their motives, and I’m not fond of what they’re telling me.
