How much did you spend on your college application in 2016, including SAT registration, courses, applications and any other extras? It would be helpful to know to how many universities you applied, as well.

I spent $0.You read that right. $0.I applied to nine schools: Dartmouth, Yale, Northwestern, Amherst, Rutgers, University of Chicago, Brown, University of Pennsylvania, and Columbia University. How did I do that? I found the right organizations. The specific one I used in my case was an organization called Questbridge, which helped high-achieving low-income students attend elite colleges. They had a separate application that, in hindsight, is more complex than the Common Application. However, this application allowed me apply to all the schools for free, at once (excluding Rutgers). There are other organizations that allow you to apply for free. Or if you’re bold and lucky enough, call the admissions office and tell them that you have difficulty paying to apply, to which they may just waive the fee altogether. For Rutgers, I was recruited to apply to their honors college, so no fee there. Now what about the SAT and ACT? Well, let me tell you about the good ol’ fee waivers, they surely are something. The waivers are actually pretty easy to qualify for, which I did, but they are also easy enough to simply take from any guidance counselor’s office and simply use them whether you had the ability to pay for them or not, which others did.Great, now you’ve taken the SAT/ACT. You still have to send the scores to the colleges, and that costs money. Now what?I had a hefty list of multiple scores to send to each of those eight colleges, and if I did it the regular way, there might as well have been a hole in my wallet. Actually at that time I probably only had $10 in my wallet, so something had to be done. Being the crafty MacGvyer I am, I called each and every of the admissions offices and personally explained my circumstance. They all just told me to have my guidance counselor send them the PDF of my score reports. Simple. It was a tenuous process, but if you are willing to put the work in and play your cards right, you can probably buy yourself a nice mink coat with the money you save.

In which month should we apply for an MS in Germany?

Well from an International student's point of view going for Masters Studies, I will answer the question in two segregated parts- one for each semester intake and then I will give you an estimated timeline. So let's get started:Odd Semester / Winter Semester 'WS' (October to February)- This is the major semester for admission which offers more courses and more admission seats. The First university which starts it's application process is RWTH Aachen which is around February 15 of each year. So by FEBRUARY starting , you should be ready with all the documents which include your grade sheet, transcripts, LOM, LOR, IELTS score card and other required documents. Thereafter, one by one all universities will open their application portal fir admission which lasts until May end. But it is highly recommended that you apply in colleges as soon as possible. Especially all non EU students should apply to colleges by April end by latest depending upon their college's admission opening dates. Many colleges take application through uni assist. Make sure you check the uni-assist deadlines well before as they take their own time (which is typically around 15 days to a month) to evaluate your application and then send them to universities for re-evaluation.Even Semester / Summer Semester 'SS' (March to September):- This is a minor semester and the courses offered as well as the seats in these courses are less when compared to WS. Again for this semester admission starts around Mid April and lasts untill October, though maximum of government university accepts applications only till September End. If applying through uni assist always keep a month advance in hand and do check their application submission deadline on their website. I will put the link down below. So to summarize and to give you all a timeline of your preparation dates for applying in Germany, I would suggest you go through following example-Year of application: WS 2017–18Research about different courses and their requirements: September 2016 (approximately a year before the semester starts)Preparation start for IELTS/ TOEFL/GRE : OCT and NOV 2016 ( it's better if you start the preparation well before)Giving these exams: Preferably by end of DEC 2016 or latest by 2nd week of JAN 2017 as the scores are declared 15 days after the exam and score card may take one week more to arrive.Preparing for other documents required in Application Process: JAN 2017 or latest by first week of FEB 2017Application filling start : FEB 2017 until MAY 2017. (Preferably complete by APRIL end)The same goes for summer semester as well. Some important exceptions:Students in their final year only need to submit the marksheet or transcripts up till 6th semester during application processIn case ur IELTS/TOEFL results is not out yet and you are missing out on an university's deadline, you could email them regarding this problem. In my experience many universities will let you submit your application in the condition that you have to submit them a letter with your dean's signature stating that english is the medium of instruction in their Institute. However the minute you get your IELTS/TOEFL score, mail the pdf copy to the application portal of that university. This facility is not possible with the uni assist. All the information and procedure for uni assist can be college Ted from here - :: uni-assist e.V.So I guess my answer will help you guide in preparation and application process of your Study Abroad decision. All the Best for the process….If you like it, please do upvote!!!
