PDF Editor FAQ

I want to go to a family reunion, but am not allowed until I cut my hair. It took years to grow it, and it's the first time I'm 100% happy about it. Should I cut it anyway?

Why do you need to cut your hair in order to attend a family reunion? That doesn’t make sense to me. Is a parent or guardian forcing you to cut it or not attend? Is your hair long and pretty, or is it a tangled up mess? What is the reason for someone…or yourself…to decide you have to cut your hair before you attend the reunion?Once in my life I was forced to cut my long hair, and that was when I was in about 3rd grade, and had gotten into the habit of chewing on a strand of my hair. My mother couldn’t stand to see me do it, nor could she stand the sight of wet strands of hair hanging down my back. So I ended up with a pixie cut. I hated it. I also didn’t chew on it when it grew long again.I was married to a domineering man who decided to go to “Beauty School” and become a licensed hair stylist. Around that time my hair was shoulder length, and he offered to give me a trim; I needed one and he needed to practice cutting hair. He ended up cutting my hair so short I cried. I’m not kidding when I say my hair was only about 2 inches long all over my head. He called it a spike hair cut. I called him an asshole. But of course it grew out and I never let him touch my hair again. He is now my ex (but not because of the haircut)Once, when my hair was not quite shoulder length, I decided I wanted a change. So I went and had it cut short, my neck was shaved and it was cut up and around my ears. I had little bangs and I got it highlighted the same day. It was quite a change, but I decided I loved it, and I wore it that way for many years.I think it was about 6 or 7 years ago when I decided to grow my hair long again. I got regular trims and grew it to my shoulders, It had taken me a long time to get it that long. I went for a trim one day and my regular stylist was off, so I let another woman cut my hair. Told her I just wanted a trim, but had to stop her 3 times during the “Trim” to tell her I didn’t want it styled the way she was cutting it, JUST A TRIM for Pete’s sake. I left the shop that day with a pixie cut. I couldn’t even tuck it behind my ears. I was livid. But once again, it grew back. Now at the age of 61, my hair reaches the middle of my back, and with regular trims (by someone who knows what I want and respects that) I am going to let it grow. I like having long hair again. Maybe some day I will cut it shorter, but for now I’m happy with how it looks. As a grown woman, if I had the choice you are faced with, I would skip the reunion and not cut my hair. It is the principle of the thing. It is my hair, my appearance, my choice, and nobody is going to demand that I do anything with it. I will wear my hair however I choose. I can’t imagine why anyone would tell me I had to choose between attending a family reunion and letting my hair continue to grow longer. What possible difference can the length of your hair make?If you are a child, and your parent is telling you to cut your hair or else you can’t go to the reunion, then you have a tough choice on your hands. You have to decide how important it is to you to have long hair, and how important it is to you to attend the reunion. You have to decide which is more important to you. Only you can make that decision.Everyone’s hair grows differently, but it does indeed grow. If you choose to cut your hair, and then you hate it, just chill out because it will grow long again in time. Remember that there is more to who we are than how we wear our hair.Stay true to yourself.

Do deaf people take their interpreters on dates if they're dating someone who doesn't sign?

Do deaf people take their interpreters on dates of they're dating someone who doesn't sign?Well.First off, this may be a bit eye opening for you.Rates for Sign Language & Language Translation ServicesHiring an interpreter has a 2 hour minimum, with increments beyond that depending on the agency and the circumstances.Do I look like I spend $150 a pop for a McDonald’s date with my girlfriend? And that doesn’t even include the food! Another $2.39 for my McFlurry! That said, the question needs to be unpacked further. I don’t “have” an interpreter. I don’t depend on one. I don’t live with one. I don’t do basic life activities with one. My hospital books interpreters directly for my medical appointments. I neither control the length of bookings, the interpreter assigned, nor do I have any hand in the billing matters. What I do not do is book an interpreter or agency directly. The ADA clearly identifies that responsibility is not mine when it comes to accommodations in the public sphere. When I have needed to book an interpreter, the location or person who is hearing is responsible under the law for booking it.Many people do not like this. But it is the law.I have to say it would be nice to have an interpreter for a family reunion or something, but that’s never happened for me, and I don’t think I know anyone directly for who it’s happened. I did have an interpreter for a couple weddings, both friends. One Deaf friend, one hearing friend. If it were for a family thing, I would then book it myself in that case, but you do understand that $150 is the minimum.

Besides religion, what are some scams which are commonly used to deceive people?

As a professional photographer I get contacted daily with a scam that's designed to take advantage of down-payments for photography services. If you're a professional photographer (or someone who take down-payments for services, like anyone in the wedding industry) you should watch out for this scam.It all starts with an innocent email. This is an email that I received yesterday in my professional account.Hello,I'm James walker . How are you ? I'll like to know your free available date in August for my family reunion (5 hours photo coverage). Also i want family portraits done for all the families coming together for the reunion. Do you accept credit card payment ? I got you contact information from the internet.ThanksJamesSounds like a sweet gig right? Well, there are several big tip-offs for me.The english is off. A lot of people have problems with grammar but these errors suggest that it's not someone down the road. This is obviously someone who doesn't speak english as a first language. There's nothing wrong with that on its own, but it's a red flag. The phrase, "Do you accept credit card payment?". There are two things wrong with this. Everyone in business accepts credit card payments. It's a silly question. Secondly, no one -- NO ONE -- is anxious to talk about exchanging money in the first contact. This is specific to me, but the account he contacted is my glamour, pin-up and fetish photography account. If you're looking for someone to do family reunion photos, it's not going to be "Dirk Hooper Fetish Photographer". Duh! Do your homework scam artist. I do family portraits and events, but I do it through a totally different studio that is branded for that purpose.Often, there are other subtle hints that you're not dealing with someone who is being honest. They will mention locations or information that just doesn't add up.The ScamI don't ever contact these people, so I've never been taken for a ride, but here's the scam, as I've read through research. What the scam artist does is make an appointment with you and offers to either send you a cashier's check or make a down-payment through a credit card.If they pay you in a cashier's check, they overpay and ask for the difference back.If they pay you through a credit card, they may ask that you pay another vendor for them. The scam works when you pay some of your own money back to them, or to a vendor (who is actually the scam artist). The cashier's check or the credit card charge that you took initially is fake and will eventually bounce, leaving you on the hook for the money that you paid out. Get it?Watch OutThere are probably a hundred different variations of this scam, and again, you may be the target of this sort of thing even if you're not a professional photographer. There are some more examples below and some advice on how to avoid scams like these (and a few other photography scams). The best advice is to ask a lot of questions, wait until deposits clear your bank and trust your instincts. If it sounds weird, it's probably trouble!More information on photography scams:photographers: how scammers are trying to rip you off4 Scams That Target PhotographersMore from me on Quora:Dirk Hooper's answer to What is some advice for an amateur photographer?Dirk Hooper's answer to How should I behave in front of a camera?Dirk Hooper Unleashed
