If you are handing in handwritten work, notebook or lined paper is preferred (wide or college ruled). Just a tip on organization: Keeping organized so important and it took me a while in college to finally find the thing that worked for me.I got a backpack and cut out a cereal box that would hold manila (nice colors!) folders. One folder per class and one folder for blank paper, blank paper, graph paper,lined paper (I use wide rule because I write big and sloppy) and you might want colored paper for vocab, rules, theorems or just to make it more fun. That way the backpack sits up on the floor and acts like a file folder. You always reach into the right spot for new paper for the day’s notes. Always date each page as you start writing on it. When you are picking up your papers at the end of class take a moment to put them in order and number them. The homework is clipped to the right class folder. I would put the syllabus here, the first weekend make a point of reading them and highlighting whatever seems new to you. Put any deadlines on your calendar right away along with school holidays and other items listed on the school calendar online.Then after each test take the notes and homework out of the folder and place in the notebook for that class and leave at home. (For some classes you may want to hang unto the vocab or theorems and so on in the backpack file.) I bought a large notebook per subject. File the papers in order. Hopefully you can add to each notebook next year. It is especially helpful to have your math theorems to refer back to. This way you aren’t carrying so much around each day, you have the whole week in your pack, don’t have to worry if you are forgetting anything, and you can find what you are looking for!The outside of the backpack had two long side pockets and 2 smaller pockets on the back of it. I used one for my purse, one had lunch, one was the water bottle, and one was the ziplock bag that had pens, pencil, ruler and so on. Another ziplock bag for a class that has special tools whatever they may be.Also I always like to sit in the front corner seat. That way I could turn my back on the class to focus on the teacher during lecture, and easily sit sideways for discussion time. I could also persuade quiet students to surround me to provide a buffer from those people that are a source of noise during teacher presentations. (I’m ADD and people were happy to help!). Don’t sit in the back and don’t ever have your cell phone out unless the teacher actually has you use it in class! Turn off notifications. I don’t even have the bitty numbers showing on my screen during the first half of the day so I don’t feel compelled to update constantly. Keeping up with emails and texts is not a job!Don’t worry about the popular kids; don’t compare your ‘insides’ to their ‘outsides’. Find genuinely nice people to be friends with. Also people who are doing what you want to do like be a good student. Teachers appreciate your effort to do all your work, be on time, be prepared, and be polite to everyone including the teacher.If you are unsure about taking notes you can ask a few times the first couple of weeks if you are getting the right stuff down on paper. Some teachers are aware of informing kids what and when to write at first.
