Minecraft.I've seen it used in health applications, high speed trading (really), large scale advertising websites at AutoTrader UK serving a quarter of a billion full page ads a year in 2016, and more.But here's the thing.You could do all that in C. Or C++ Or C# or Go or Haskell or Erlang or JavaScript or Basic.Language is not as important as software design skills.Java has no keywords that specifically enable its use in those applications. It is how it's used that counts.It's not the size of the syntax, it's what you do with it seems appropriate here.

We are a low income family, and the only one in our household who doesn't qualify for Medicaid or Medicare is my husband.He does have a lot of medical issues. We have a county based health clinic where he can see a Nurse Practitioner for basic health care and some bloodwork. He can also get a prescription for his routine medicines.Any lab work or prescription medicines is paid out of pocket. We usually ask for the cheapest medicine out there for his condition. But sometimes he needs a medicine that cost over $20. When he needs a medicine that cost a lot we have to make a choice between paying for this medicine and not paying a bill. We have a set income so if he gets ill or needs a new medicine it cuts into the money for bills or groceries.(I must say the clinic offers a $50 voucher for medicines that you can get once a year. Once you use that $50 the rest of medicines for that year will be an out of pocket expense.)We also have applied for financial assistance through the hospital because he needed some very expensive medical tests. But if they refuse his application he will be held liable for those test and will most likely be sued for the debt.The ER cannot refuse you, but usually the doctors tell you they can't do anything about your conditions and you need to see a specialist. So they give you a “band-aid treatment” and release you.The point of my answer is that if you are poor and don't qualify for any types of insurance in the United States, your options for medical care are extremely lacking.

When scrutinizing pilot recruits, the military wants the platter. They want the all-you-can-eat surf and turf, both types of cheesecake, the Cru Beaujolais, and a doggy bag and to-go cup.There are minimum requirements, but because recruiters are looking at the top 10% of the applicants, most of them don't know what they are, off hand. Likewise, I'm not going to give any concrete numbers, as these are things you're trying to maximize. Let's look at some basics:Health—Be it from stellar genes and lifestyle or poor record keeping, you need to be in top physical health. You also need to be in fair physical condition, able to do a good number of sit-ups and push-ups in separate two-minute trials. You're also going to need to be able to run 1.5 miles in good time.Academic achievement—A record of sustained superior performance in school shows the military you take things like government-led requirements seriously and are able to excel in a restrictive environment with narrow, sometimes silly, goals and requirements.Superior Military Test Scores—The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) are tests you need to take with a recruiter, but it could also be the ASTB (thanks, Chris Hacken). They hit some basic intelligence aspects, but even more important are the questions that deal with spacial orientation and visual cuing. There are many avenues that will help you score high on these. Please note that these are the same avenues that will help everyone else, too.No Legal Problems—From shoplifting to drug use, the military is looking for someone squeaky-clean. It's like they're looking for someone suitable to date their only child.Vision—This has to be 20/40 or better for most programs where you're yanking a stick around. When everything else is maximized, they can use this as a tie-breaker, but mainly it's just a check in the block.Hearing—They are going to stick you into a beige chamber and place 1950's headphones on your ears and give you a cable with a button on the end, fashioned into a handle: just hit it when you hear a tone. In your head you're going to hear sets of three tones at different volumes and frequencies. You're going to hear a lot of things you know are there and many things that you know just can't be. But that button is too enticing. It begs to be pressed, wants to be pressed. You know it's naughty, but you can't help it. I have to note that I known few people who have failed the hearing test, but none who don't despise it.Timing—This is the key to life. You have to have what they want, when they want it. If you can work out this requirement, you can just slap life around and tell it to make you a sam'ich and wash your dog.
