Thirumandhamkunnu Temple, is it possible to go there and do the Mangalya pooja? Or should we need to book it in advance?

The Mangalya Pooja in the temple of Thirumandhamkunnu is one of the most popular rituals among Malayalee Hindu community, mostly popular among central Kerala and Malabar regions. The temple of Thirumandhamkunnu was the Royal temple of Valluvakonathiri- the ruler of Palakkad and the deity is Goddess Kali in her fierce form. The temple has a huge historical legacy when the warriors of Valluvanadu used to take the pledge in front of the deity to become Suicide Squaders (Chaverpada) as part of their mission to either assassinate Zamorin of Kozhikode during Mamankam ceremonies or end their own life during the process of it, during the medieval era. Due to this reason, the goddess is in the form of a blood-thirsty fierce war goddess waiting for the day when the Zamorin’s head be placed in front of the temple (which never happened).Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavati- the presiding goddessSo the temple historically wasn’t associated with any positive ceremonies like marriages or similar, rather its full purpose was associated with the war and revenge. But later by 18th century when the hostilities finally ceased and entire Malabar came under British control ending all olden era feuds, the temple also returned to its typical positive character as a spiritual centre, though the goddess is still in its fierce form. But there is another shrine within the temple meant for Lord Ganapathi (Ganesh) in his baby form (Unni Ganapathi). As Ganapathi is lord of remover of obstacles, gradually belief grew that obstacles for attaining marital bliss shall be removed by the Baby Ganapathi. So the Mangalya Pooja is done with Ganapathi, not with the main deities- Lord Shiva and Bhagavati (both in war mood).About the PoojaThe pooja happens every Sunday, Tuesdays and Fridays in front of the Ganapati Shrine. Its a Tantric Homa (fire sacrifice) invoking Ganapathi’s energy and seeking his blessings. It's a way to appease Ganapathi by offering various holy food offerings to the deity by the priest. This pooja has to be done for 3 years (one pooja per year). The belief is that, by or before 3rd Pooja’s one marriage would be attained and the couple as such must-visit together to the temple and offer their gratitude the deity. The pooja will be held after 9 AM and will be around 1 hour. After the ceremony, the priest will give the holy prasad comprising of the food offered to the Ganapathi. This includes Ada (steamed rice sweet cakes), Unniyappams (the most favourite food for Ganapathi in Malayalee concept), Bananas, Payasams (Kheers) and rice. This must be consumed by the girl/boy for whom this pooja is done. That's all about the customs.Pooja CostThe Mangalya Pooja is actually 3 independent poojas done once in a year. You have to make an annual booking for the pooja consecutively for 3 years. For the first year it costs Rs 600For the second year, it costs Rs 1000For the third year, it costs Rs 1500How to bookYou can directly at temple Vazhipadu (offerings) counter. This puja needs advance booking of minimum 1–2 months. No spot booking. If not possible to visit to book you can make online booking which is so simple. The temple has an online booking system in association with SBI Payments Gateway.Go to the below linkState Bank CollectClick accept terms and it opens to a new page. In the states box- click Kerala. In the category box- click Religious institutionsThen a list of religious institutions opens up, click- Sri Tirumandhamkunnu Bhagavati DevaswomIt opens to the dedicated page and you can see list of poojas- click- Mangalya PoojaAnd a new page opens. Click the year (1st, 2nd or 3rd) and fill your personal details there, including your address and phone number.Make sure- you fill the Birth Star column in accordance to Malayalam terminology of the stars/Nakshatras. For example, if your Birth star is Anuradha, you need to type as Anizham in the box as Anuradha Star makes no sense for Malayalees. You can check the Malayalam terminology of the stars from hereIn the remarks column- please indicate your date of choice. Please give minimum 1–2 months in advance as close-by dates are normally fully booked. Please note, this pooja will be done only on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays. So the date of your choice must be on these days.Make your payment via credit card/debit card/UPI/Payment Wallets etc accordingly.Once you complete payment, you get a confirmation number. Keep that with youAfter confirmation, its ideal you make a call to the temple Devaswom office-+91-(0)4933–258820. Normally they get the notification from SBI only after 24 hours since the issuance of the confirmation to you by the bank. So ideally give a call on the next day or day after. Reconfirm the date of your choice with them. Also provide your postal address, so as they can send a hardcopy of the receipt via postYou can also book the pooja by mailing them a crossed Cheque/demand draft (along with a letter of application with details of the person) and mail toTHE MANAGERSREE THIRUMANDHAMKUNNU BHAGAVATHY DEVASWOM ,POST BOX NO.5, ANGADIPPURAM - 679321.MALAPPURAM DIST., KERALA, INDIAPHONE: 91 4933 258820, 258555FAX : 91 4933 253820The same address above can be used to send Money-order via Post office. If it's thro’ these means, you should make a call to Devaswom Office within 14 days after sending cheque/draft/Money order and get a verbal confirmation along with the choice of dates. If you booked online means or thro’ postal means and got verbal confirmation from the office, but not receipt copy, still you can visit the temple on the appointed date. Prior to the pooja, you have to obtain a duplicate copy from the Devaswom office. On the day of visit to the temple for the pooja, you must carry 3 mid-sized vessels and one bag to carry back the prasadam. Girls are normally advised to visit the temple in bridal attire (not heavy jewellery or makeup) as the pooja is all meant for their marital bliss. The bride/groom intended, must attend atleast one pooja out of three. It's not mandatory for them to attend all the three. No other rituals exist.

What are some tricks salesmen use for turning around common sales objections?

There is psychological trickery leveraging the unconscious (hence 'trickery' from the consciousness point of view) which I won’t comment on here, or the commercial trickery in the purchasing process which I will comment on and offer here below. I assume your motivation is to prevent Trickery and not to use it. The word assumes that in a selling situation, sellers have some special way of taking the power away from a purchaser in their decision to purchase something. I think the reason there is a perception of trickery in sales is that there is also a stronger and common belief that ‘sales people lie’. The existence of the later (belief) seems to make it easier to believe the former even though both are subjective. This perception arises from the salesperson involved and the industry they operate in, which may or may not condone such behaviour. Personally I think that less than 20% of all salespeople would ever lie in their role but that may be enough to create the perception. I also think more than 50% of purchasers would pass the blame on to a seller for having used ‘trickery’ on them should they buy something that was not the best for their requirements. The result is our underlying emotional believe and your question.I have seen sellers or providers say things on a sliding scale from ‘not the whole truth’ through to an ‘outright lie’. If your definition of Trickery is closely related to BS, then I have seen outright lies, but more often it is the ‘not the whole truth’ part that is used extensively by salespeople….and lawyers, politicians, police, bureaucrats and all kinds of professions outside of Justice including those in sectors including mining, media (the new truth = BS), medical, religion (western, middle eastern however usually not asian) and even scientific research (ref. Any pharmaceutical funded drug study as you may well know in your field and in particular the research fiasco on anti depression medicaltions that set a new benchmark in BS). There are few remaining bastions of compete truth when you think about it.Where do you draw the line on non-disclosure? Is the boundary a ‘grey line’ or back / white? Where do you put the sign post and how to guard it?Does the tax office automatically correct a tax return you submit where there is a new tax rule, or something you forgot, which allows you to receive a bigger refund of tax paid?No (I know…they make the rules and could do this easily via machine automation).Does your lawyer tell you the worst possible outcome initially in order to get your deposit into their trust account and then fight for your case knowing the odds were you would achieve a much better outcome in the end than initially advised? (also knowing there is no such thing as a trust account refund).Yes(Heresay of course - this view may or may not represent the views of the legal entity answering this question [insert here] more ‘weasel words’ in order to cover-my-butt and say what I mean without risk of prosecution). What don’t they tell you in order to maximise their billable hours? If this is common practise and they are all respectable professionals does that make it OK? Is this lying?Certainly it is (allegedly) not disclosing the complete truth. They will say they assumed based on the available information, you will clarify, they will then say they have a duty of care to protect you in the event….blah blah.If there is an actual “trick” (i.e. something in your power to influence the outcome according to your desires) then this is it: To communicate without ambiguity, check for mutual understanding and document such agreement. That would also make our legal friends happy. In relation to your specific question it is to not fuly disclose the whole truth or to over promise on capability. The sales person may assume that the delay in the discovery of these things will occur after your have purchased, thereby letting another part of his organisation (the Support processes) take care of the issue post-sale.As the seller / provider you should always ask for the context / requirements / the purpose of the information requested. You should offer to provide how this compares to competitive offers or underline strengths of what you can provide. If asked you should provide details on weakness even if it disadvantageous your position (because it’s the truth). Your service and Support may be able to compensate but this is hard to measure initially. You should provide an overview of all key contributing factors that can be assessed individually and together as a whole. You should be truthful and treat it as though you were providing it to a member of your own family. As the buyer / recipient your duty to yourself / your organisation is to ask clearly for what you require, without allowing for assumptions on the part of whom you are asking it from. To clearly state the context of what you need this for, so that if there are assumptions which may be unavoidable as you get into greater detail, the vendor can assume with this direction; in order to achieve the same outcome that you desire. If you do not receive the same outcome as you have requested then there is BS or trickery involved or possibly a degree of incompetence on either part. Why is this The Answer? For sellers / providers the ‘grey line’ of what is not said or not fully disclosed about weaknesses or the likihood of an outcome, is The Trick (i.e. what they choose to say or not say in order to gain revenue advantage). In so doing they may believe it will overall be in the interests of the purchaser in future and they will probably be happy in the overall scheme of things anyway. This does not justify the non-disclosure of weaknesses. For buyers / recipients not knowing what to ask initially will often result in them seeking to blame the provider for being tricked into the purchase later. It is easiest to pass the blame because they feel the provider had the answers and they should have provided the information on to the questions they had inside their own head because they provided these things to many others before and should know what I wanted. They may feel that the non disclosure was a trick but cannot prove this without a specific question asked via email or hardcopy to prove it.In combination this is the heart of the matter addressing your question.Practical applications in the prevention of trickeryRemove ambiguity: Clarify your requirements/ purpose /context, document them, check for understanding.Call out areas of risk: Ask for all information good and bad without assumptions. As an optional extra ask them to suggest anything that achieves your overall requirement with assumptions on their part and to highlight these.Set common moral framework: Ask them what they would recommend (if roles were reversed) knowing what they do now and to explain their decision.Providers: Should focus on what they are good at and charge accordingly. They should drop their prices on commonly available, non unique components and charge more for those that are superior or unique and even charge a small increase for an overall better combined solution. One step in the right direction is still the only step to make. If everyone did this and used the same moral framework then all problems are solved.(Note: I am happy to provide specific questions to ask a vendor that may apply to your current needs. I offer this at no cost, in commercial confidence, happy to sign a non disclosure agreement or similar for the purposes of finding the truth in the detail of a commercial procurement process. Please message me directly if this is of interest).
