Not to win any trophy but to achieve something even greater.A herd of about sixty elephants was passing through the Chatra district of Jharkhand state in India when one elephant stopped moving ahead with the rest of the herd.It started digging into the ground.At first, the nearby villagers witnessing the event thought its action to be unusual. However, they kept watching it.Several hours passed. The elephant was still very focused, undistracted in its job.To unravel the mystery, they carefully moved closer to it, only to find a baby elephant stuck in the well, to their surprise.So, it was a mother racing against time to rescue her baby, near-drowned in a muddy well. All by herself.They wanted to join the race but unsure if the mother would trust and take them as its team members for the second leg.Photo Credit: Daily MailSo they figured that their first task was to prompt the mother move away from the accident zone and let them take over the mission.They used a combination of ideas, including driving a truck slowly towards the mother, who then got the clue.She slowly but reluctantly moved away to a distance, but still close enough to watch her baby.They seem to have crossed the initial hurdle of winning over the confidence of the leader.The next leg was to clear the land and create a tilted ground near the well. Which they did, tactfully and masterfully.Time for the anchor leg to receive the baton.They removed the barriers around the well and moved away from it.The mother swiftly returned to the well.Now there was no danger of pushing more mud into the well and easy enough to get to the finish line.Photo Credit: Daily MailIt took her few swings and voilà; she got her baby off the well.The mother and the baby then started walking in the herd’s direction.
