Online I 94 Arrival Departure: Fill & Download for Free

The US government fee for the I-94 (the arrival/departure form issued to aliens on the land borders with Canada or Mexico) is $6. I usually pay with a credit card, so you should be able to use a Canadian credit card too. I assume the CBP takes US cash; I don’t know if they take Canadian cash too, and if so, at what rate.Apparently it is also possible to pay online, in advance of the border crossing: CBP Makes Online I-94 Application, Payment Available to Travelers Arriving at a Land Port of Entry.Note that US citizens don’t pay the fee. Canadian citizens who visit the USA as visitors and don’t need an I-94 on this trip don’t pay the fee either. The fee is charged to third-country nationals (entering with a US visa or visa waiver) and to those Canadian citizens who need an I-94 (e.g. to work or study in the USA; in this case, additional fees may be charged as well). This is different from traveling by air, in which case a significantly higher fee (International Departure/Arrival Tax) is added to the cost of everybody’s ticket.If you drive across the border frequently (as a frequent visitor, or as a commuter on some kind of work permit in either country), it is possible to pay a one-time US$50 fee, visit an enrollment center, and obtain a NEXUS pass that will speed up the border crossing. It is valid for 5 years. (I don’t know how this works when combined with a work permit though: e.g., if one’s NAFTA work permit is only valid for 1 year, will the NEXUS card expire with the permit as well? Or one can use it even later, when entering the other country as a visitor?)
