The most soul-satisfying thing that i have done is to finance the education of a boy till he got a job.The story goes like this :-During 3rd year of college in Delhi, i had to shift in my friends’ 3BHK flat. There were total 4 guys other than me alredy living there.. All were studying in Colleges expect one member- Let’s call him The kid. That kid was hardly 16–17 yeara old. Later i came to know that the kid was there coz one of my flatmates who had promised to get him some job in Delhi. Apparently he couldnt find him a job. That kid was there since 1 and half years. Further enquiry revealed that he belonged to a very very poor family. His village was in a Maoist- affected district on the southern border of Bihar. His family had some land in the village which provided for their needs. But his father was unable to provide him any money for studies. The kid knew my flatmate through some contact, got assurance regarding job and came to Delhi. Now his father back village was under impression that his son has gone to delhi for work and studies both. The worst part was that he was doing none. It was 2 years since the kid had passed his Matriculation (Secondary) exams. After that it was like as the time had stopped for him. He did nothing the whole day other than reading newspapers, listening FM Radio and doing any work that my loser flatmate assigned him. In reality he didnt know what to do, how to do. Most importantly he was devoid of any support system of financial backup to do anythng. Other flatmates did notice this but no one was able to do anythng as we all were still studyng in colleges and were dependent on our parents.Anyways, i finished 3rd year of college and soon got a job. The year was 2009. The day i got my first salary, the first thing i did was to go back to Delhi and ask him- Padhega??? ( wanna study??). Obviously he said Yes. At that time i was posted in Chandigarh.The next thing i did was to send him back to his home town. I enrolled him for appearing in Intermediate exams(higher secondary). Got him a room in the city to prepare for exams and provided him with bicycle, books etc. I opened an account for him in a Bank and started sending a fixed amount regularly for his expenses. As expected , he passed the Intermediate exams with first class.Next, i got him a rental place to live in Patna ( a good place in Bihar to study and prepare for competitive exams). Enrolled him in College for graduation and simultaneously in coaching for competitive exams. The kid was laborious, honest and trustworthy. He understood the importance of the opportunities he was getting for himself as well as his family. He passed his graduation by 2013. Meanwhile, i left my job in dec 2012 amd didnt join another till aug 2013 due to some reasons. But, i cudnt leave him midway and jeopardise all these efforts and his career. So, i kept aside the PF money i got and kept supporting him financially. Consequently, he started applying for various competitive exams like Banking, SSC etc. I had to provide him with some extra cash every now and then as the application to govt exams requires some stipulated fees/ charges.Finally, the kid succeded n landed a good job in CRPF in administrative division. The time was July 2014. I cant really explain the joy, satisfaction and feeling of achievement i did that day. This was the best of me. To continue supporting him financially n mentoring him in every way possible was somethng i did out of my comfort zone. And that gave me a hell lot of satisfaction.By the way, the kid has converted his kachha (mud house) ghar into pakka ( brick n mortar house) ghar- he took a personal loan for that. Owns a laptop. Financing his younger sibing’s education. Still saving some money for his sister’s marriage.
