If I am a college student, I want to look at possibilities for jobs after I graduate.I’d also look at the crime rate and see if where I want to live is adversely affected by crime.I’d greatly research transportation. Being able to have multiple ways to get around is important.I’d look at weather. No sense going to a cold environment if you hate snow.I’d look at politics and the way things are resolved and the length of time politicians take to resolve issues.Look at activities: nightlife, family outings, whatever you find interesting to see if they have that there.Look for cultural groups. People feel better when they know there is someone there who is like them.If you visit, take some tours of the location. There are always guide tours somewhere.I’d read up on the personalities of people. Sometimes there are documentaries. For instance, Humans of New York is a great set of videos that shows people the different personalities of people living in New York City and also some of the spaces. Sometimes, the interviewer goes all over the world, since many of the people that live in NYC come from somewhere else. The interviewer posts his feed on Facebook and also the website.Read up on newspapers (sometimes you can get them online). For instance, I’d read The Chicago Tribune before going to Chicago.If in the U.S. or Canada, you can find out about real estate from websites like Trulia Real Estate Listings, Homes For Sale, Housing Data or Zillow: Real Estate, Apartments, Mortgages & Home Values.Talk to people who have been to those places you want to go. they will be able to tell you if it’s a good idea or not.
