PDF Editor FAQ

Can I get in trouble for lying about age on an application to adopt a pet?

If it’s because you are too young to sign an adoption contract on your own, then you are too young to sign an adoption contract on your own. It won’t be legal. If they found out they could take the animal back.Whether they are likely to find out depends upon their followup procedures. Most of the shelters I’ve dealt with personally verify ID, so you couldn’t pull this off.

What do you think about pet adoption agencies who are so militant and self-righteous they would rather let the prospective pet languish in a cage, instead of going home to an otherwise responsible family that didn't quite measure up to their rules?

I am an active shelter volunteer and am on the board of directors at a rural shelter in Missouri. We use both an adoption application and an adoption contract. We ask a lot of questions. We do our best to ask them in a non judgmental way. Even so, sometimes people bristle at all the paperwork. I understand - you don’t want to feel judged or inconvenienced when adopting that new puppy or kitten. There is a very important reason we ask all of these questions - we are responsible for the safety and welfare of our pets. You new pet has recieved excellent vetrinary care while in our charge - we want to make sure that you continue that - that is why we ask for a vetrinary reference. All of our pets have outdoor spaces and room to run and play safely - not all of them need a yard and it is not a requirement - but we ask you about it so you give it some thought - maybe that border collie you fell in love with is not a perfect fit for a townhouse with a balcony. These questions make you examine what you can offer a pet and we hope they help you to make a good match for your lifestyle. We also ask for a landlord phone number if you are renting - we do this because you would not believe how often adopters do not have permission for a pet in their rented home. We want you to succeed so we want to make sure the animal is welcome in your community and not hidden out of sight and unsocialized. We ask for ID because sadly there are people who adopt pets for nefarious reasons. By making you be upfront with us it is our hope that you will prove trustworthy - after all, all of these pets are precious to us. We have poured medical care, training, socialization, and love into them - if they are not the right fit for you we will take them back and continue to give them the best care and the best life we can in a sanctuary environment. We care so much about our pets that even if you dump it in another state - even if you let our baby down - we will retrieve it and care for it and love it until it meets the right owner. We ask questions because we care - a lot. We have loved each and every one of these babies and want the very best life for all of them. We know that not only will you will make their life better, but they will make your life better. They may have been abandoned or dumped - but they are not second rate - they are all special and worthwhile and deserve a great life - our fondest wish is for you to give that to them! Before I sign off I would like to introduce you to a few of the pups that we love at the Haven - I just can’t bear the thought of an animal shelter post without pictures…This is Bear. His owner sold a home and moved away and did not bother to take this wonderful boy with them. He is sweet and loyal and has amazing manners. Today he won a cutest big dog contest at the farmers’ market. Just look at him - we need to know that you are going to love him as much as we do!This is Brave - how can you not smile at this silly pup. We want her to go to a home where she will be spoiled and hugged and given treats just for hanging out. We want her to have a long, happy, silly life in a home that will never let her be abandoned again. This is Junebug the first week she was with us. She was dumped in a neighboring city. This girl is an Einstein - a border collie mix who will be able to anticipate your every move - a friend that will remember what time you like to get up and will live to be on your schedule. She will learn how to fetch, how to stay, how to jump through hoops if you want her to. She’s so much more outgoing now - she’s going to be an amazing pet and she deserves a home that will have room for her to run and will give her the intellectual stimulation she craves. The payoff will be huge for whoever takes her home.I hope this makes it clear - we ask because we care. We want the very best for them. We cheer for them when they find a home and we revel in the photos that adopters share even years later. We want you to have a furrever friend - we want it to be a good fit - we want you both to have many happy years together. Filling out a few forms isn’t a lot when you consider that you two will be hanging out for the next decade or so.

Should I adopt animals from Petco?

Technically speaking, one does not “adopt” from Petco.Petco hosts adoption events at its locations but the dogs and cats are adopted from rescue groups who are simply using the space at the petco store. When you adopt, your adoption contract is NOT with petco, it is with the third party rescue group. Many of them are great organizations. Some may not be.You should do independent research into the rescue group of you have concerns.Remember, petco ultimately is in business to make a profit. They host these events to get you into the store to buy acessories for your newly adopted pet. That is thier primary motivation.

CocoDoc is easy for everyone using it (from our team to our customers) and in a word of complex technology, easy is a breath of fresh air. CocoDoc makes sense. It makes tedious processes of hunting for and then signing the signature lines and initial locations page after page effortless. Customers don't have to download, print, scan, or fax. Which is great since fax machines are a dying breed and often a pain point for customers. It's quick to set up, creates a smooth process for everyone involved, but most importantly.... your signed documents are completed and returned at a much higher rate and much much sooner than they would be otherwise. If you send anything requiring a signature, CocoDoc will be an investment you'll wish you made years ago.
