How do you successfully run a "refer-a-friend" email campaign? What incentives are effective? What are the pitfalls?
When developing a referral program, focus on a few quick wins and iterate over time. My tips for a successful referral program:Get a program up quickly. Seriously, nothing kills a referral program more than months of planning and building one. Just get it out there using something like Free Refer-A-Friend Widget Referral Software - ReferralSnip. Focus on capturing your first referrals and change things over time.Don't start with a cash incentive. Ask your customers what they'd want. More often than not, it's not going to be cash. Try a free extra month or sample of your product, a free consulting session, a freebie from a partner, or best of all nothing at all. When you leave an incentive out of it, you can really see the results of your copy and get a program up pretty quickly.A/B test your incentive. Now that you've chosen an incentive, make sure it's really what people want. People may tell you they want one thing, but you won't know exactly what motivates them to tell others until you test.Make sure to promote the heck out of it. Make a landing page, tweet about it, talk about it on social channels. The worse thing you can do is start a referral program and hope people participate.Push it with email marketing. Email marketing seems to be the "secret sauce" to a successful referral program. You can promote it in your email signature in your lifecycle emails, support ticket emails, your email newsletters, and even use something like Autosend to trigger a reminder to participate to those that haven't yet.Iterate. Just keeping testing and updating your referral program over time. With enough time, you'll get the successful campaign you're looking for. There are a few good books/posts on creating a successful referral program, some of my favs:Drive Growth with these "Invite-a-friend" Hacks100 Days of Growth Hacks book has a few chapters that break down a interesting growth hacks with referral programs5 Tips for a Successful Customer Referral Program
Why do people not understand Katniss' reasons for voting yes for another games?
Edited on 08/26/19Let’s look at the text.“We’re down to Katniss and Haymitch,” says Coin. Was it like this then? Seventy-five years or so ago? Did a group of people sit around and cast their votes on initiating the Hunger Games? Was there dissent? Did someone make a case for mercy that was beaten down by the calls for the deaths of the districts’ children? The scent of Snow’s rose curls up into my nose, down into my throat, squeezing it tight with despair. All those people I loved, dead, and we are discussing the next Hunger Games in an attempt to avoid wasting life. Nothing has changed. Nothing will ever change now.I weigh my options carefully, think everything through. Keeping my eyes on the rose, I say, “I vote yes…for Prim.”“Haymitch, it’s up to you,” says Coin.A furious Peeta hammers Haymitch with the atrocity he could become party to, but I can feel Haymitch watching me. This is the moment, then. When we find out exactly how alike we are, and how much he truly understands me.“I’m with the Mockingjay,” he says.Mockingjay, Chapter 26Sweet Peeta is the innocent foil, openly fighting for righteousness. Joanna seeks vengeance. Only Katniss and Haymitch see the crushing hopelessness of the situation, and in their despair — in their spiritual suicide, with nothing left to lose — they make a silent pact. They will position Katniss to assassinate Coin. They understand that Katniss will be killed for this attempt. I’m sure Haymitch didn’t intend to live long after that.I think Katniss voted yes to clear the path to assassinating Coin. Had she voted no, had she not fallen in line, I think Coin would have killed her. A "yes" vote threw Coin off, allowed Coin to believe that she had beaten and neutralized Katniss.I agree with another answer, though, that it was also a test for Haymitch. Haymitch would never, not ever, vote for another Hunger Games. Not only had he lost his entire family due to his win, but even worse, he mentored a string of losing contestants the whole time in-between his Games and Katniss' and Peeta's Games. I can't imagine every year having to send two teenagers from your hometown to their slaughter. I think a sincere yes vote from him would be even less likely than a sincere yes vote from Katniss. So Katniss' vote communicated to Haymitch her intentions regarding Coin, while Haymitch's vote communicated to Katniss that he wasn't going to stop her. ("I stand with the Mockingjay." That line gets me every time.)As to why people wouldn't get that, well...it is pretty convoluted! All I can say is that the minute that "yes" came out of Katniss' mouth, I knew Coin was going down. I even fist-pumped. Katniss really changed over the course of the series. I don't think the girl we saw in the first Games would have been capable of that type of planning and treachery.
What are the flaws in the argument that "science changes, but the Quran stays the same" as a justification for the Quran?
As a justification for the Qur’an, it is mind-bogglingly counter productive.Yes, “science changes” over time as new evidence is discovered and new theories are tested, but the point is that science is a process of gradual improvement. If the Qur’an states something as a fact that is later discovered to be untrue, all you are left with is proof that the Qur’an is not a holy book inspired by a perfect God and that it is instead the work of imperfect men who didn’t know much about the universe and our place in it.I mean, seriously, when the Qur’an was written, people didn’t know much about embryology. And, as a result, you have passages in the Qur’an such as the following:Man We did create from a quintessence of clay. Then we placed him as a drop of sperm in a place of rest, firmly fixed. Then We made the sperm into a clot of congealed blood. Then out of that clot We made a fetus lump. Then We made out of that lump bones, and clothed the bones with flesh. Then We developed out of it another creature. So blessed be Allah, the Best to create!(23:12-14).That doesn’t appear to be even remotely similar to how actual embryology is now known to work. What about the role the ovum plays in all of this? What spot of congealed blood? And why does it say the bones are created first and then covered with flesh when we now know that the fetus is covered with flesh before bones develop? [And no, I really don’t care that one particular famous non-Muslim embryologist out of many gave a speech claiming that it was an accurate description after he was paid a lot of money by the Saudi government to do so.*] Since that time, of course, people invented microscopes and could actually see what was going on and, as a result, science now knows a lot more about the subject than it did back then. So, if anything, the fact that the same nonsense has been repeated in the Qur’an for centuries despite the fact that we now know it to be incorrect, is just proof that it was never a divine or ‘perfect” book to begin with.* For reference, see the following:Dr. Moore is notable as the only embryologist directly quoted by Islamic sources in an attempt to prove embryology as described in the Qur'an is scientifically correct. In the 1980s he accepted an invitation by the Embryology Committee of King Abdulaziz University to produce a special 3rd edition of his most successful book "The Developing Human" specifically for use by Muslim students in Islamic Universities. He was financially patronized by the Saudi royal family for the use of his name, and for no real additional work. The textbook he delivered to the Saudi Universities that commissioned the work is titled, "The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology with Islamic Additions." The base textbook was work that Moore had completed years before. He did nothing new for this new edition. The “Islamic additions” are actually the work of an Abdul Majeed al-Zindani, so it alternates chapters of standard science with Zindani's "Islamic additions".The result of Moore's and Zindani's collaboration is not an academic book and subsequent editions omit and contradict the "Islamic additions". Reverting back to his previous description, they basically admit that the embryology in the Qur'an is a repetition of Greek and Indian medicine.— Dr. Keith Moore and the "Islamic Additions"Of course, you are free to attack this information as scurrilous, biased or otherwise unreliable as you see fit. But one thing nobody seems to dispute is the initial statement that Dr. Moore is the only embryologist who apparently ever said anything about embryology as described in the Qur'an being scientifically correct. Which is the point I originally made. When one (and only one) expert out of many thousands voices an opinion that supports your belief, it takes an extreme form of confirmation bias to think that actually means anything.
