The site was infected with ransomware, the entire database was exfiltrated and then encrypted. We were called in to fix it and then started to show them what they needed to do to report it. We were shut down by the physician. We had the physician sign a release of liability and finished our work.About a month later, the physician had an altercation with an employee. I do not know the details but the employee reported the physician to HHS. Some time later, the physician received a notice of audit. After that, I didn’t hear anything else. As far as I know, they are not in practice now. So if a site were to violate HIPAA in a way that is serious and the ensuing investigation found no Risk Assessment, no training, no efforts to comply with HIPAA of any kind, then that is the Willful Neglect area. That’s when things get serious.Check out the case of the Catholic Health Care Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS) . They had a single iPhone stolen and it contained the data of 416 patients. Just 412, not the hundreds of thousands we see in most breaches. The first question to ask is whether your company allows employees to do that. If so, do you have to be added to a list of people who have that permission? These are simple security policies that your employer puts in place. Your IT department, or your boss should be able to tell you. It's also possible that the company uses a secure portal — Citrix is a common one — to secure communication on public networks. So you may need to download an app or access it via a specific link from the company's web site to access your company's email from home.

May 8th 2020.I had just read an article about my home state, Missouri, having a $730 million dollar budget deficit. Entirely unrelated, I had business to tend to at state office. I called to make sure they were taking walk ins (due to covid-19).I called, no one answered. Received the voicemail indicating they are open Monday-Friday 8:00Am-5:00pm and directing to leave a voice message. It was 11:00. I though maybe they had an early lunch. I called again at 1:00, then again at 2:00 and finally at 3:00. Could t reach anyone, and there was no explanation as to why Scam, fraud and hoax information portal. I called a different division of the same department. Same. Called a different department. Same. Called my COUNTY commisioner officer, same.Called a friend of mine who works for the state on his cell phone. Turns all cou ty and state offices were closed 05/08 in observance of Truman day.The state has a 730 MILLION dollar budget deficit, the county has applied for Federal funds due to budget shortfalls, literally millio s of people are unemployed (due to the directive of the state and the county) and they give their employees a discretionary paid vacation day, at the tax payers expense. Mind you, when the government extends a holiday, not only do the employees get the day off, but any employees who do work that day (correctional officers, law enforcement, emergency management, ect) all get holiday pay (the same as working christmas or thanksgiving)Tone deaf.
