There is no official national sport in India. Hockey was popularly considered as one due to India’s strong dominance in that sport. Between 1928 and 1964 India has been in the finals of all Olympics hockey tournaments and won all but one. In a total of seven gold medal victories and one silver medal runner-up.Imagine India winning seven Cricket World Cups consecutively. That was the state of Indian hockey back then. It slid in the 1960s, but still won a World Cup in the 1970s and won the Olympic gold in 1980, but could never dominate in the same way.If Cricket is to be considered the national sport, Kohli’s men need to bring in more victories — starting from World Cup 2019 and have a long period of absolute dominance.

As a frequent American visitor to Canada, I would say it is the moment I captured in this picture:OK, it’s a hockey game. So what? That tells you as much about Canada as a picture of Americans watching a baseball game.But …… as you can tell from the clothes the spectators are wearing, it’s summertime outside.As you can tell from the size of the players, it’s a youth hockey game.And you can’t tell this in this picture, but the white rectangle behind the guy with his son at upper left is, on its reverse, a sign warning people to stay on the other side of the netting for their own safety.This was at the Brick Invitational Youth Hockey tournament at the West Edmonton Mall in late June 2015, a couple of weeks after that year’s NHL season was over.Yes. Canadians love hockey so much that they will disregard safety warnings en masse in order to watch a youth hockey tournament during the summer regardless of whether their own children are playing in it or not (This hockey tournament captured so much attention that people at the Starbucks overlooking the rink from the second story were eagerly following it too).

Meet this guy, he is Golu Patel.He was average in his studies.He was an awesome hockey player, he even represented his country. He was also a guitarist and a tabla player.In class 10th board examination he secured 72% marks. He wanted to study humanities. He wanted to represent his country in an international hockey tournament.But his parents decided something else by taking advice from Mr Sharma. He advised them to take maths. According to him, there is no career option in other streams.Golu's parents persuaded him to take science. Golu was unhappy and still opted for science.Within the first 2 months of his science classes, Golu saw the real face of mathematics. He realized that till 10th standard, they were just joking.Golu also had the burden of Physics along with maths.He managed to do chemistry anyhow, not the subject.He never felt motivated to study now. He started playing Mini militia and he got addicted to it. It was an escape from his studies.Competitive exams were approaching. Golu started studying in the last 1 months before the exam. Unfortunately, he failed the exam.Parents forced him to take a drop and try again.He again got motivated, not for studies but for FIFA world cups.He again failed.His parents said - you should have told us earlier. You wouldn't have wasted our money.Golu was still confused.Golu then went to a private college to pursue higher studies.It's been 5 years since Golu graduated but he is now struggling to get a job.He has forgotten about Hockey. He sold all of his those trophies of hockey to a trophy house.So, as to earn some money.Meanwhile, he is also busy trending #berozgaariThis is Golu today. Still unemployed.Golu represents the frustrated Indian studentWho wasn't allowed to follow his passion.Thanks for reading :)~ MR
