To consider yourself as having mastered them, you should be able to work out most of the very challenging problems that appear at the end of each chapter. And you should not need to have someone check your answers; you need to be able to know if you got the right answer. If you are not sure, then go back and read the chapter again. They are a little out of date, but they will allow you to read “the literature” once you have mastered them.I have a complete set that I frequently refer to whenever I am confused by a physics issue.

Here's a few dos and don'ts.Don't ever get in a taxi where the driver won't use the meter.Don't pack your essential toiletries in your check-in baggage. Avoid check-in baggage altogether if you can, and stick with carry-on. You'll never lose your stuff, and you'll get out of the destination airport 15-30 minutes faster.Don't ever pay for a forward flight unless you're planning to use it. Some countries require you have a forward flight when you enter. If you don't know how long you'll be staying, you can rent a ticket from Best Onward Ticket. These guys are quick, with solid customer support. You'll have a rental ticket within 15 minutes of your order.Don't keep your cash and all credit/debit cards in the same place. Separate your primary ID and credit/debit cards.Don't assume your mobile data plan is gonna work when you're asked for your ticket upon entry to the airport. Download itineraries in advance, so you don't need a connection to access them.Don't go into a new country without having at least your first hotel night booked in advance. Assume your flight is gonna be delayed, and arrive at 3AM.Keep your wallet in your front pocket where it's more difficult to pick.Invest a few bucks in a shielded wallet where you keep your credit cards. Scammers can easily scan RFID credit cards from a few feet away.Best to have at least two credit/debit cards in separate locations, in case one gets lost.Notify your bank in advance of your travel, and obtain assurances that your cards will work in the countries you plan to visit.If you don't have an international SIM, get a local country SIM card in the airport first thing when you arrive, along with a 4G data plan appropriate for your usage. Immediately share your new number with whoever's tracking you back home.That’s all that come to mind right away. Most important: Have fun! No work of art is universally great. Critics may assert such universality, but there are always people who remain outside the consensus. And greatness is redefined in every generation. Even Shakespeare’s reputation has had its ups and downs. And all movies are still far too young for us to have any idea of their real staying power. The critical fave Citizen Kane looks to me like a sophomoric, heavy-handed vanity project by Orson Welles, whose reputation seems to me to be based solely on his own self-evaluation. The popular fave Casablanca is fine, but far from the best film romance ever. I'm quite content to remain the odd man out because I don't think any critical judgment is “true” — not even my own. De gustibus …My personal view of best film romance ever is Emma Thompson’s Sense and Sensibility, one of the rare adaptations that is truer to the book than the book itself. For the best movie about war, I am torn between the brilliantly fair and accurate Tora Tora Tora and the devastatingly honest Hacksaw Ridge. For romantic comedy I adore Love Actually but could argue just as forcefully for Crazy Stupid Love. Best film comedy is probably the Matthau-Lemmon The Odd Couple. And my candidate for best film drama is A Man for All Seasons, though I would have to be crazy not to put Jaws right up there, even despite the typical Spielbergian decision to have Richard Dreyfuss’s character not be dead after all.I don't expect anybody to agree with my superlatives; there’s bound to be something in each category that you like better or admire more. But most people will agree that most of my choices are excellent. Critical consensus about Citizen Kane and Casablanca was determined far too early and is enforced by university film programs far too rigorously, as if filmmakers hadn't learned anything in the years since. It’s as if Box and Cox, and Gammer Gurton’s Needle were declared the greatest plays in English before Marlowe or Shakespeare or Jonson or Beaumont and Fletcher ever wrote a word. We learn from and build on the art that came before, and premature consensus on “greatness” hampers the artists who come after.Ultimately, judgments about art are always individual, and the only “universal” is the impulse to form community by persuading our friends (or readers) to join the audience for a work of art we individually love.
