PDF Editor FAQ

What are the strangest reasons for which you have pulled over by a cop while driving?

Not the strangest, but amusing, to me at least. Driving back from Galveston TX, just me and my daughter. Had surf boards, kite board. Kite, and assorted beach gear in the back of my pick up, we had spent the weekend at a friend of mines place and enjoyed the beach and surf, local food and such. Decided to drive home and it was late. She was asleep on her side with a rolled up damp towel as a pillow.Driving along maybe 30 minutes and get light up red and blues behind me. Check speed right quick, actually 5 under posted (unusual for me I have a heavy foot, guess a bit tired) so hit the hazards and start a pull over, pull over off the roadway turn on interior lights hands on steering wheel window down vehicle turned off and wait for officer. Lady officer XYZ approaches and usual introductions she explained I have one of the two license plates lights not operating, so a technical violation but the license plate is still illuminated by the second license plate light. I inform her I am a deputy in a far away land (not for preference but I had a firearm in the glove box and that just happened to be where done important documents she requested were) I explained quickly that it was alomst impossible to find a proper holster that worked with my swim trunks. She understood and I fished out documents (of course in proper Murphy’s law fashion HAD to be under my 40 cal pistol) closed the glove box and presented documents with a “yes I am stupid today" sheepish smile. She laughed and returned with a written warning for a fix it ticket. Told her I did not do a proper preflight vehicle inspection and will correct the error. She laughed and asked how the beach was (my daughter and I where clearly in tourist mode from the tuck load of beach survival gear). Said it was good but we smelled like low tide. And we are off again for home. Not another 30 minutes later I am light up again red and blue, repeat scene with state trooper so and so. And another written fix it ticket warning. I decide this will be the pattern for the trip home. I leave all documents in the center trap because I was tired of explaining why I had a handgun in the vehicle and fishing out state documents from under said pistol. This scene repeated itself 8 more times (grand total of 10 written warning fix it tickets) o met the night shift of several counties, local cities, and a few state troopers. The last few stops I became mildly annoyed and amused at the same time. “I know I have a none operating license plate light” then hold up an assortment of written warnings from various jurisdictions. Usually to a chuckle and another warning to add to the growing pile.Trust me the next morning before even unloading the beach gear I fixed that Fricken light bulb!!!! Later I wrote to each department about the professionalism of said officer, deputy, trooper. I had the names I needed on the various rainbow colored written warnings.

Can a police officer know if you've received any traffic warnings recently?

A written warning - Yes.These are documented and entered into the local department's computers.A verbal warning - Probably notWhile an officer can "run" your plates while giving you a warning, if it's simply verbal then most of the time there's no documentation of it having occurred.

What happens if you are on parole and you get a warning for speeding?

You should slow down. Most warnings are verbal. There is no physical documentation that you were stopped. And in the event you are given a written warning, that is between you and the law enforcement agency the officer works for. It's in-house documentation only. I have never heard of parole being violated solely for a warning for speeding. So if you get stopped for speeding, and you get a warning, you should slow down. Even if you are not on parole.

I was frustrated and not happy with the process, but the rep was very patient and walked me through it.
