Atheists, how does it feel to know that the vast majority of people are religious?

It feels Einstein was right about human stupidity, and it feels like we are right about religion to be one, BIG, business that thrives on the gullible. When you say that the majority of people are religious you are not looking at the big picture. If you divide all those into the several different churches and religions around the world. They will no longer be seen as a majority. At least all atheists think exactly the same thing. NO gods. You, on the other hand, just cant keep up your minds to what is what and to how many gods there are. Here is a small example:There are 33,000+ total of "Christian denominations" alone in 238 total countriesIndependents (about 22000)Protestants (about 9000)"Marginals" (about 1600)Orthodox (781)Roman Catholics (242)Anglicans (168)And, if you combine Protestants with Independents and Anglicans ( [22000 + 9000 + 168] / 33000) it is 94% of the total or 31,000+ . What is the most subversive rock song of all time?

Rock ’n’ Roll had a subversive impact on society in the 50s and Rock called for revolution in the late 60s but rock has been the mainstream for most of it’s life. Other genres do subversive well. There’s one old folk song that was revisited in 2017 by Lady Gaga. Woody Guthrie wrote This Land is Your Land in critical response to Irving Berlin’s God Bless America before WW2. These two songs were sung in a medley by Lady Gaga at the 2017 Superbowl, the irony of singing this song, which was being sung as an anthem at anti Trump rallys (and written while Woody Guthrie was paying rent to Trump’s father) by a avowed anti Trump LGBT activist who promotes inclusivity was missed by most. This Land Is Our Land: how Lady Gaga sang an anti-Trump protest song at the Super Bowl without anybody noticing. Onlookers tweeted praise for the pop star for not getting political but how subversive was that? This land is your land, and this land is my landFrom the California to the New York Island,From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf stream waters, This land was made for you and me.The performance went down without controversy but this song’s subversive message still resonates 80 years after it was written.A much earlier performance, Billie Holiday singing Strange Fruit - It took a very brave singer to deliver a protest song in 1939 and Billie Holiday continued to sing this for the last 20 years of her very short life. It sounds sweet but it’s one of the first real protest songs and she is singing about the lynching of black Americans. Billie had to leave her record label to be able to release this on the independent label Commodore Records.Southern trees bear a strange fruitBlood on the leaves and blood at the rootBlack bodies swingin' in the Southern breezeStrange fruit hangin' from the poplar treesPastoral scene of the gallant SouthThe bulgin' eyes and the twisted mouthScent of magnolias sweet and freshThen the sudden smell of burnin' fleshHere is a fruit for the crows to pluckFor the rain to gatherFor the wind to suckFor the sun to rotFor the tree to dropHere is a strange and bitter cropStrange Fruit was written by a civil rights activist from the Bronx, Abel Meeropol but it’s remembered for Billie Holiday who delivered it’s message, possibly Nina Simone has come near but nobody has surpassed Billie Holiday’s version. Strange Fruit: the first great protest songCharles Mingus - Original Fables of Faubus - written as a direct protest against Arkansas governor Orval E. Faubus who in 1957 sent out the National Guard to prevent the integration of Little Rock Central High School.Oh, Lord, don't let 'em shoot us!Oh, Lord, don't let 'em stab us!Oh, Lord, no more swastikas!Oh, Lord, no more Ku Klux Klan!Name me someone who's ridiculous, Dannie.Governor Faubus! Why is he so sick and ridiculous? He won't permit integrated schools. This was released in 1959 as an instrumental Fables of Faubus on the Columbia Label but the lyrics were revealed on the slightly later Original Fables of Faubus released on the independent Candid label. Why wasn't the Upper South ever as religious or racist as the Deep South?

I wouldn't say your assessment of the Upper South is completely accurate. Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky are what is known as the "Bible Belt" I live in Missouri, and there are pockets in southern Missouri that are very religious (the Bible Belt generally includes Southern Missouri). The Pentecostal Church, as well as varieties of Baptist, and other, small, independent denominations, are very big there. Pentecostals were one of the first to worship with blacks and whites together, but they didn't come around until the twentieth century. However, there had to be a foundation for it to take root in this area.If anything, the main differences are isolation, and socioeconomic. Being farther north, the states of the Bible belt had more contact with the North, including more trade with the North, which would have led to some exchanging of ideas. But also community isolation. The states of the Upper South are located in mountainous or extremely hilly country that tends to create geographical isolation between communities. In those settings, and in small towns, it is easier to get to know most or all of your fellow townspeople. The better you know someone, the harder it is to hang on to stereotypes. There is also an attitude of the community vs the outside. Mistrust of geographical outsiders tends to trump racial fears.A final difference would be that the terrain of these states didn't allow for large plantations. Most farmers barely eked out a living, or may have made money, but were far from rich. In those conditions, slaves would have slept in the same house as the farmer's family. These farmers had a lot less to lose if slavery died, and a lot less to gain by maintaining it. So they put less time and effort into terrorizing blacks, and spreading the gospel of racism, and using the church to justify racism. (Even long after slavery died, there are those that say that maintaining racism helps to keep workers fighting amongst themselves rather than cooperating to improve their conditions. As evidence, in the 1980s, workers in Minneapolis made 5x what workers in Dallas made, to do the same work.
