That depends on your grade level.In high school, the guidance counselor/principal will finalize them some time before school starts. You could expect knowing maybe a week before school starts. Not all schools are this way but many still are. There is the possibility that a school utilizing the internet could send it to you sooner.The difficulty is that schools are still hiring teachers, accepting new students, losing students to transfers, and deciding if any courses need to be eliminated due to low enrollment. These factors delay the final schedule.For college, you know almost immediately after scheduling. There are exceptions like when courses are canceled due to low enrollment, or changed due to scheduling conflicts by personnel.If you can’t wait, call the school and ask them. They may tell you if your’s is already set.

You can talk to your guidance counselor, but please understand that he/she is more concerned with making sure everyone has the classes necessary to graduate, no one has holes in the schedule, and people are in the right level class (need to retake a level, tested out, wants to move into or out of AP, etc.) than about people who just want a free hour of their choice. Arranging student schedule is a lot like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle without the picture to help. Sometimes it's just not possible to get what you want.My son had seven classes his senior year, even though the school day is supposed to be only six hours and there are no busses seventh hour. As hard as his counselor tried, she couldn't find a way for him to take calculus any hour but seventh even if she changed an elective since the only other hour calc was offered he was in another required class. The compromise we finally came up with was a free hour early in the day with the condition that he go to the library where there was adult supervision (I know from Snapchat, however, that he liked to spend that period at a nearby Starbucks with a friend who had a car). I still had to pick him up every day, which was a huge inconvenience, but we made do.All this is a roundabout way to say you're likely to be way down on your counselor’s priority list and your schedule may not change for the first few days of class, but it's worth a shot. If all the stars line up, you may get the schedule you want.

I am not sure what universities you are applying to, but check their admission requirements, as while 4 HL subjects is certainly doable, there is usually no reason to. Think to yourself: what are my reasons for taking these classes at the Higher Level? Is it due to a university admissions requirement, eligibility for university credit,or simply out of interest to learn more in the subject, or something else etc. There is usually not a major benefit/reward for taking 4 HL classes.HL Bio and chem is a good combination to have; I am not too sure on the amount of overlap there is as I did not take IB biology, but knowledge is likely to help you in the other.For example, I would be surprised if many universities asked for HL History specifically and not accept SL History for admissions (unless it is say, an elite history program).This may be overly-specific but is something to consider: If you applying to university within your country and you receive your country's high school diploma in addition to your IB diploma, check to see how domestic universities handle applicants with two diplomas. As a Canadian who only applied to Canadian universities, universities seemed to care a lot more about my Ontario high school marks than my IB predicted marks.Best of luck with your decision!
