This is NOT the time to be a penny pincher.Hire a CPA who knows the business. Do you know how to reconcile the register Z-Tapes and thus prevent the theft of cash? Do you know how to stop shrinkage (aka employee theft of) in the liquor inventory or food inventory?I hope I’ve made my point.

The key here is lack of inventory. Most other startups including the colossal failure (Webvan) had a model where they needed to create infrastructure for holding fresh foods inventory. Given the number of SKUs in the fresh food industry and perishable nature of the products, it ended up creating significant capex where the economics did not make sense. However, existing retailers like Stop and Shop were able to cater to online groceries (Peapod) using their existing brick and mortar network.Instacart completely took inventory out of the equation. Using primarily the arbitrage between a customer's willingness to pay and the pay to delivery guys, they were able to create a highly scalable model.They were also helped by the fact that the delivery people weren't necessarily fulltime or on their rolls. They could add/remove people as per customer demand.However, just like in the case of other sharing economy startups like Uber and Airbnb, they also have the unfair advantage of not having all the costs that a traditional competitor would have. In Uber and Airbnb's case, it is in the form of licenses to operate. Here, it's not clear if instacart provides for insurance or any pension benefits which a typical grocery retailer would provide.

The strangest part of my divorce was the evening we divided our canned goods, mixing bowls, pots & pans, and kitchen utensils.I have had so many divorce clients over the years who have either taken everything inside the home or have been left with nothing. To me that type of behavior is assinine and selfish because it is intentionally emotionally abuse. I get it, people are hurt and it is natural to want to strike back and hurt the one who hurt you.Sidebar: Striking back is a learned behavior for me as a form of self protection because my mother was what is now called a narcissistic bitch.I didn't hate my former husband, I just was not willing to be married to someone who chose to lie to me, smoke two packs a day, and spend his days in a bottle of booze rather than at work building towards our future like I was. There was no infidelity but we were not intimate anymore (ED is a side effect of heavy smoking and alcohol consumption).I wanted a husband, not a drunk roommate. We did not have children and were in our late 40s so there was no societal pressure to maintain an illusion. Life is too short to go through the motions and watch your soul slowly die…The strangest part of my divorce was the very surreal experience of standing in the pantry together and discussing how to separate our food inventory.
