The reports are unreliable because it said there was a body, but then it said there wasn’t really a body. These reports were probably put together from multiple testimonies. Because of the serious lack of evidence, I don’t think there was a body. I believe it was mostly charred pieces and ashes, mixed with more charred pieces and ashes, mixed with shrapnel, debris, and dirt. If there was a body, there would be a lot more to learn from ESPECIALLY where Hitler shot himself and what pistol was used.So did Hitler shoot himself in the side of his head? Maybe. No one knows anymore. But I still believe he did shoot himself since there were records of him obtaining information on how to kill himself painlessly (cyanide + bullet to the head), as well as his last wish being a cremation to avoid capture and end up like Mussolini.

In addition to Jon Nixon's excellent answer I'd like to point out that Hitler's remains were positively identified by Soviet authorities using dental records.In case you roll your eyes at the mention of "Soviet Authorities", the facts were verified from recently released archives of the USSR by Anthony Beevor and detailed in his book The Fall of Berlin 1945Hitler died in Berlin.

Dentists do not automatically send records to any data bank and no such bank exists. Dental records are used to confirm identity, not to identify an unknown subject. That means the coroner or family already has some form of identification and just want something more concrete to confirm. Dental records are easier to obtain by authorities than DNA, fingerprint, tattoos, etc. Usually I would receive a request for xrays of a person from the police or county coroner. My job is to confirm that it is my patient of record and send requested info to that entity. What they do with that information is beyond my knowledge or control. If you’re concerned about privacy issues, then don’t. Health care providers are bound by HIPPA regulations regarding releasing protected medical information.
