I moved to Bastrop from Austin 15 years ago and I love it. I was sick of Austin and the problems that go along with a semi large city.There are families that have lived there forever and they may be Texas friendly, but don't think everyone is going to treat you like family right away.No one wants to hear about how things were done in California or his great it was. If it was so great, why did you leave.We have guns. Most people do or are tolerant of those that do. If you don't like guns or personal protection, keep it to yourself.We drive fast. There is a lot of Texas to cover so go with the flow or move over.Don't try to buy anything but beer and wine on Sunday and before 9 pm. The liquor stores are private bit controlled by long standing blue laws.When I moved to Bastrop, you needed a membership to the restaurant to drink there.We used to have wallets full of membership cards so you could have a beer with your tacos.Tacos BBQ and chicken fried steak are protected by the Texas constitution. (Jk).If you are a vegan, go to Austin to dine. Don't expect Whataburger to make you a veggie burger.Don't get upset when you try to pay state income tax and you get laughed at.You will need to make other choices that are life critical.Aggies or Longhorns?Cowboys or Texans?Rangers or Astros?Spurs Rockets or Mavericks?But most important is your high school affiliation. In Bastrop it's Bears or Eagles.High school football is religion. So is church on Wednesday night and Sunday morning.If you are an athiest, you might want to keep that to yourself.If you don't like the way things work, don't get too crazy about trying to make changes. People generally like things unchanged the way it has been for years.It's hot most of the time. Deal with it. Don't complain.There are 2 homecoming parades each year. Not because there are multiple schools. But the town has one every August and the high school every October. In December there is an evening parade where everything is lit.There are wild hogs in the country and you can expect to either hit one or just miss one. You used to be able to cut the tail off and collect some cash.When someone says something you don't understand, don't say "what?". Say Sir? Or Ma'am?The last thing I'll mention is don't walk into a strangers field of blue bonnets. Snakes like blue bonnets and land owners carry guns.Welcome to Bastrop Texas.
